This plug is so the amniotic fluids dont leak out and also to prevent infections. It's what keeps baby safe from the real world. Soon after, or even at the same time your plug is passed, you may see a "bloody show," which can indicate that labour is just around the corner. A bloody show is not the plug itself...it's a completely different thing where your underwear or toilet paper have a pinkish or brownish discharge.

A mucus plug looks different for everyone. It is also called a "bloody show" the colour and consistency can be different and it can come out before your baby is due. This plug is meant to keep out infection from harming you and your baby. If it does come out early do see your doctor so they can check you regularly.

Don't worry healthcare professionals deal with this every day and I have delivered many babies so far this year. Remember blood doesn't occur with every mucus plug

I went to pee this morning and as soon as I stepped out of the bathroom I felt something come out down there and went to check and when I wiped It was very mucusy( lack of a better word) and it had a reddish tinge to it. It is cervical mucus and can assist you in predicting what is the best time to try for a child. Apparently, there is also stages of this cervical mucus while can really determine the exact day to try for a child. You may need to google this for furthere explanation.
