How were these old recordings survive all these years, for being so old the quality is very good. What technology did they use to record music back then. Were there even tape machines back then for the master recordings?
I first herad this by Sophie Tucker - the Murray version is a little snappier - perhaps a little too fast-paced for a vocal - which may account for the uneasiness that pomeroy40144 detects in Murray's voice.. The Tuckler and Morse recordings were made to showcase the lyrics, while this is a dance record.
I'm a big Murray fan and never heard this. I will say he sounds a bit uncomfortable with this vocal. I've never detected that in any other recording of his. Thanks for sharing it.
You can get this song on a CD called 'Can't Help Lovin' That Man'. It is out of print, but can be bought used from Amazon.com.

I love this song - does anyone have a copy that I can buy? I heard this song years ago on a tape and didn't know it was Billy Murray!

I never realized Billy Murray made this.
To be honest I greatly prefer the Lee Morse version of it ( watch?v=Qphjk1tps1A )
