I would trust Kustom's pricing and quality over other manufacturers in this day and age. I got the Defender 5H for $100 new. You'd only be able to get a toy marshall at that price. So if I decide to get a bigger amp I'll go with a bigger Defender!
Hey, i own this amp and many others. The volume nob in this case if used as a gain when the master bypass isn't engaged. When it isengaged it;s used like an oldschool louder you crank it the more destortion you get :)
I own this amp myself, and I have to say, it is the best amp in the world, it beats marshall's ass (just my opnion, dont have to agree w/ me) I love this amp, and I'm using it to record my Demo EP cd's. it has a nice clean channle, kinda coutry/bluesy, but a extreamly clean, and warm tone. If you put an Ibanez DS-7 distortion pedal on it, then your really rocking!

In matter of tube amps the Valveking serie is probably the worst Peavey ever made ! It sounds like flying wasps.
