"Homoerotic"? Meh...not really. I mean, do rainbows and dancing really have to be homoerotic? It's kind of a weird straight male depression that you guys need to get OVER! Really!
you should also watch the making of this video featured on the right...it's interesting how most of us in the US see that and immediately, cynically think it's gay. What's happening is that they are taking traditional macho, violent figures and saturating them with the opposite. Cops are always beating ppl up in videos, here they're dancing and rainbows are shooting out of them. Also, instead of putting these figures in their place, they're empowering them in a way, which is a cool twist.
Why do people come to watch videos if they're just going to diss it anyway. Some people, I swear. I hate Country, so I am not gonna go to a Country vid and trash Garth Brooks. That's lame and most of you are lame for doing it here.
dont be so critical. this is just good music with a postive message and feel. accept and appreciate the quality, and the sarcasm of the video if your sense of humor is rounded enough!!!!!!!!
yeah, let's only just listen to wolf like me . I love buying albums to listen to just one song on it :-P ... (even know this is off the album after i think)
These guys are pretty much the new Radiohead as far as I'm concerned. That might not mean too much to everyone, but they really are amazing to me. Typically hilarious video.
What's wrong with the current Radiohead?....but yeah, they do remind me a little bit of a funkier Radiohead....what Radiohead would be like if they had gotten more sweets when they were kids
Oh nothing, nothing at all. I love me some Radiohead. I just think these guys are for the music industry what Radiohead were when The Bends came out. Dear Science is a fantastic album. The title almost seems like a nod to OK Computer, as does their first "album", OK Calculator.
Whatever,... their great ,... pretty fresh,... as in different,... I love these guys! You can hear a few different influences if you listen close enough,... but they managed to make something pretty amazing, let it be their own or whatever you want it to be,... but it doesn't have to be anything but their own,... whatever that is,... all I know is, it's great! Peace!
With all due respect, there was inovated music before Radiohead, the sound of this TVOTR album was taken from the first spiritual phase of Prince (88-90), even the video looks like his Lovesexy era.
I know some of Radiohead fans don't listen to black music, but there is some weird experimental stuff from George Clinton, Outkast, Dangelo etc. I remember the first time I listen to Radiohead Okcomputer I tough "this is the white Prince" and a few years later we got TVONTR and the new Wolfmother

Well I've heard alot of critical hype bout this band (especially from Rolling Stone mag) so I just now got around to checking them out.. My review is quite different.."wolf like me" was bearable at best, but this song is complete shit. Seriously, this is weak.
Alright, Ummm... I'm a fan since "wolf like me", but I think this was very bizare. The cops really steered me away after their horrific dance moves. Yeah, uhh... I'm going to check out "roughhands" by alexisonfire.
Love the band since "Wolf Like Me", but, what the hell is THAT supposed to be? It reminds me of the whole PM Dawn thing, which makes me cringe. The Care Bear cop- dancing, shapeshifting & unintelligible lyrics have me rethinking my affinity for this band.
I KNOW- ..the Golden Age is coming, but did ya' have to get all freakified? Totems? Chakras? What WAS that, guys? I HOPE they aren't a "New Age" band... Remember that crap, a cpl o yrs back wit the hippie robes & tamborines? Lord forbid!
TV on the Radio is the most comprehensive contemporary band I've had the pleasure of listening to. They have exellent vocals coupled with an intrinsic instrumental core that corresponds well with the lead singers voice. I expect to hear great things from them in the future.
go ahead buddy, play this song to 20 of your closest black friends and 20 of your closest white friends and tell me what you've found.
I'm not saying white people have some sort rights to this music, but c'mon, this is music that white people listen to! Look at one of their live videos and see if you can find one black person that isn't on stage
these groups make bank off of pretentious, self-involved college students trying to be hip. plus there's the whole "i listen to black people play white-people music, i'm so open-minded" thing goin on
This reminds me of the argument that broke out in the 6th grade when Pam said to Mark that RocknRoll was from Africa. As Elvis, The BeeGees and sadly Vanilla Ice have all proven is that music has no color, but music listeners have cultures that make them choose the familiar. Blacks probably mostly don't know this band, but that doesn't negate that much of the band is black. Plus, its a silly argument that almost never converts people's hearts.
Ironic that they draw criticism for pretentious, "well-informed" stereotypes who like to segregate cultures into their own separate pockets and tell the world exactly how it works.
Why are Americans so obsessed with race? No one gives a fuck anymore, christ
Without trying to be rude, everyone has their own opinions, but this isn't much. I have heard the rave about them for two years and have tried giving them a chance, but I just don't get it. I listen to every genre of music and really don't ever want to listen to this again.
too bad. to each his own. id recommend seeing them live, but if you have been trying for 2 years and didnt like cookie mountain, than i imagine your not going to ever like them. my friend is the same way. personally i think your both nuts :-D
Great song. The video is actually pretty dense with mythic and new age symbolism. First time I watched it, it seemed pretty silly and funny but after a couple of viewings it's clear there a spiritual universalist message.
This is a great video. It's dense, playful, purposefully difficult. The key, I think, is in the lyrics: the Golden Age is the mythic age of the Ancient Greeks, the Age of Miracles is the mythic age of the Old Testament. Both are fictional periods of surreality: Zeus disguising himself as a white ox to have sex with nymphs; God appearing to Moses on the top of a mountain.
If you start piecing together the symbols, the song and video start making sense.
Wow, there's a lot of layering going on here. This song seems simple at the beginning and then it blossoms into something that is very much larger. The video isn't half-bad, either. There's nothing dark about this song, as one poster thought (although I do respect other's opinions). This is such a perfect find. Then again, it's Christmas, for me. Another present (I like simple things).
i absolutly love them .. i only wish they wernt as popular as they are cause i loved there underground vibe. i met them a couple months ago and they are pretty chill
i tried giving them a listen bought their cd and everything...i still ain't feeling it and can i just add - i'm confused with this video? did i just waste 3 minutes and 50 seconds....why?
I am a hard headed bastard this is true. However, I still think the video is god awful. I wasn't expecting disco dance cliche either; perhaps a smokey bar, sophisticated people drinking sophisticated drinks, (a bit uptight) and then tv on the radio get on stage and really get the whole audience into a groove you know. Like, they really forget about how sophisticated they are for a minute and really dance. I had a vision. They should have let me make the video. Lots of shadow.
I like the video, its good, fuck you all who expect some conventional disco dance cliche video, grow up and be more conceptional you hard headed bastards.
They made it seem that way on purpose. Its actually riddled with symbolism and in the making of video they say the police are dancing so people will think they are silly instead of being afraid of them.
In a musical age where everything that could be done has been done already it's difficult to sound different and innovative. But, there will be innovators in sound and style ready to break out of the mould ... and it's here we find TV On The Radio. I'm hooked.
The cops represent control, authority and loss of individuality. They appear menacing, but they're actually just dancing to the music played by the band. They reveal themselves to be secret superheroes (they rip open their shirts like Superman) and everyone is really on the same side. So, the message is- Not Self is Self.
I really like TVOTR but man... what the hell is this video? I remember watching it for the first time and apparently my facial expression was priceless. I guess that's a good thing...?
every great music video has cops looking at suspicious men in white clothing in the middle of the desert that then have magical instruments and then the cops think everything is ok and they then start dancing and they have a dance off with the weird guys in white which turned into animal heads......
if thats not the Weirdest video ever i don't know what is. On a side note, how the hell is this song topping the charts? It was actually my least favorite from the album.
anybody care to try and explain this to me? it has alot of symbolism but for what? no clue. I think this album is a great example lyrically of what they're capable of but not as musically interesting to me as the young liars ep.
