Well Xubuntu is faster and more light weight than Ubuntu. I have Ubuntu and kinda is sucking. And if you have Windows XP i recommend switching to a Linux OS. Xp has many issues with its system.

Linux is Awesome. Its free and better than Windows.How much better can it get? Try the new 9.04 distros, they are great. I use linux for programming and you can practically use it for everything except for Windows Gaming. Thats why I bought an xbox 360, to forget about windows gaming and fully comvert to linux!

Xubuntu has some problems,but they get fixed within a day or 2 cause of the updates everyday,I use it it is way better than win xp.

For 1 it's not slow like the windos OS,

I would highly recomend this for older computers,but if you have like a Vista,junk that and get the latest Ubuntu.

shoulda installed xubuntu, cause it has a 1ghz celeron. but it works better than the piece of shit version of xp i had on it. With vista or 7, though, you have no reason to switch to ubuntu.

DirectX is closed-source and is made by MicroShaft, do you really expect it to be cross-platform? The WINE project is starting to integrate DX10 support but it is very much a prototype at the moment.

There's some dlls to add but, I assume that you have installed Wine on your System. Just google for DirectX on Ubunto and, you'll find good tutorials.
