What the Dr. in this video forgets to point out is that chickens are primarily insectivores (note the shape of the beak vs. being shaped for nutcracking like a finch) and while the grain diet fed to the birds meets their basic needs it doesn't touch the protein requirements that the birds have. These protein requirements cause the birds to peck and even canibalize eachother in an attempt to fill the requirements.
