@mazda2284 thanks for the quick response. I just bought a pioneer GM-D7400M per your advice 400w rms mono at 2ohm. just waiting for the sub to arrive in the mail.
@BlueAllJ think your confused lol . ever sub has either quad dual or single voice coils .each coils has a ohm load . so say its a single 4 ohm coil ...it can only be 4 ohm by itself . say its a DVC 4 ohm , meaning it has 2 4 ohm coils , the dvc can either be 2 or 8 ohm . a quad is only something you get into in comps and at that point if you dont know what your doing take it to a pro .
what happens when wiring in parallel and you connect positive from amp to VC1 + and negative from amp to VC2 - ? does that make a difference from hooking amp wires + - to vc#1 and running jumpers to vc#2 -+ ? any help is appreciated
@thakidtwan1 wire each sub in series so each sub would be 8 ohm and then each sub to the amp, in the end would be a 2 ohm load at the amp, you can always check with a digital multimeter , ""20$ at walmart for a meter"" what you have for subs ? im interested in your build ! got any videos ?
@thakidtwan1 dnt listen to that. all subs should be in parallel. just link all positives of the subs together... yes all positives for all subs, and the same for negative. dnt connect positive to ngative. and then on the first sub or last connect it to the amp and u have a 2 ohm load. each pair making 1 ohm.
@GJSUPERSTARS they are 1 ohm stable. make sure you have plenty of power for it though or it wont last long. the audiobahn amp i had back in the day looked just like your amp but smaller ''around 800rms'' was 1 ohm stable but only lasted a couple months and it was toast running @ 1 ohm. i had lots of other more powerful amps ''tons of brands'' on the same electrical that either lasted way longer or never died ...also had a few that didnt make it more than a week lol
How to figure out what's the final impedance? Easy, if wiring in parallel divide the ohm of each coil, by how many voice coils there are, and in series instead of dividing, you just multiply. :)
i have 1 p3 15 4ohm sub and i need to hook it to a 2 channel amp and bridge it,how do i wire it?i dont want it to be 8 ohms because from what i hear you dont get any power at 8 ohms.
Hi, i have a question for ya, i have a two channel amp 2600w max, i run 2 dual voice coil subs, i want to know if im getting the most out of them, both are wired the same like this, bridged at the amp,neg to neg, pos to pos,. same on the dual connections neg to neg and pos to pos, my amp specs say 2 ohm load max, i got told i got them on a 0 ohm load, makes it unstable,?? i hope you can understand all that lol, please let me know the best way to hook them up. the subs are rated at 600wrms
@TheUnbeen from what you just said to me you have 2 DVC sub bridged on a amp each sub wire parallel making each sub 2 ohm and then with them both hooked up it makes them 1 ohm.... so ur running ur amp in danger of blowing , each sub should be wire to its own channel if wiring them like that , or rewire the subs to be 8 ohm each ''series'' and with both bridged to the amp would be 4 ohms
okay so i have 2 kicker l5s and i only had it using one voice coil i guess thats how i would say it i didnt have the short wire on the subs anyways i was pushing 1000 watts and i think i blew a subwoofer is it because i didnt wire it with both voice coils thanks
@jon106022 yep ... for sure man, running 1 coil of a dual v.c. subs gives you 1/2 the power handling and the coil has to work extra hard to move all that extra mass ... you never get the output they should have either . my guess is if you look at the coil 1/2 of it is black and burnt to a crisp and the other 1/2 is shiny . they are probably junk . if you end up having to throw them away plz send them to me for parts , i rebuild subs that have good coils and extra parts are always nice !
I have an interesting problem maybe you can help me with.
I have a dual voice coil sub (a Clarion PXW1052) 600wrms @ 4 ohm sub, but the sub amp is a d-block type amp with only 2 outputs to handle one sub. Assuming that from what i've read the ohm's double is you wire the 2 coils in series, how will this affect the amp if it does 600wrms @ 4ohms?
OR
can i run 2 set's of wires from the same single amp output to the 2 coils?
it wont make a good sound it will be distorted but loud thats why people who are looking for SPL they wire in series but the people who know what they are doing can wire it in parallel and it will still sound good and be loud..and this dude isnt showing how to wire them both together if ur wiring two together wire them in parallel then bridge it to the other sub making them both wired to series that way u get the best sound plus if u wanted you could make them sound SPL..
@theskeemask the only reason there are 2 screws per side is so you dont have to jam all ur wires in 1 hole , but if you wanna believe its a quad go nuts!
@theskeemask what ever, these were DVC it says it all over the box and the sub so dont be telling me . hell ill go get the f'n coil and show you it only DVC.

ok thats great info. to be sure. i got a 2 ohm dual sub, with a 2 channel amp bridged wired.. and both have peak ratings of just 500 rms. so not to strain the amp and, or blow the speaker. wiring it in series im asuming would be the best way at 4 ohms. am i correct?
u`r so fast.....what time is at u right now?in romania it`s 4:53am :)))
i have a lightning audio s12.2.4 400watts dual voice coils and a jvc 300watt 2 channel bridgeable amp.....for my setup which case will be the best?thx
@parazytu19 series and bridged on the amp, u will have a 8 ohm load so u wont get the most out of the amp, but thats the only safe way u can run it bridged, other wise wire parallel and use only the left or right channel .
and what is the difference??why i have to connect that hooked wire from - to + and not to connect 2 pos from the amplifier to the 2 pos of the sub and 2 negatives from amp to the 2neg of the sub?
ok so if i have a 600 watt rms @ 2ohm amp that i want to wire it to a dual voice coil subwoofer with rms 600 how to do i wire the subwoofer to run at 2 ohms? i can get the sub in 2 ohm or 4 ohm versions but need it to run a 2 ohms to match th amp, also how would i wire this?
@mssugaslim what ohm are ur subs if they are dual 4 ohm wire them in parallel and one to each channel ! says its a mono but then i says its 2 ohm stereo ...i found that kinda odd . did it come with a owners manual lol?
hey i got a 15" DD and its dual 2 ohm and i wanna wire it to 1 ohm, my sub has wires already installed on it stock instead of terminals on the sub, will it make a difference if i just put the negative wire to the other negative wire then put the negative from my amp onto the both of the negs on the sub? and same with the positives?
Hey man I followed this tutorial when I wired my sub.. but now that its all installed its a constant bass and doesn't go along with the music at all. I checked all my wiring, grounds, and RCAs and it all appears to be hooked up right. Any idea what could be causing it to do that? Its a brand new 12" JBL sub and a brand new JBL amp. Any help would be great!
need your help. I have a DVC Audiobahn sub. it says in the back 700watts. not sure about the ohms. wanted to know what kind of amp to run it with??. i was thinking of 1000watt amp?.. should the amp be the same wattsas the speaker? or more? i wanna push the max out of the speaker without blowing it.
good rule of thumb is 75% of the speakers watts. so like a 500-600 watt amp would be fine if u want it to last. use a multimeter to find out what ohm it is,.
thanks man really apreciate it. Thanks for all the help man ill hit you up later on when i have an insane system. I am getting 2 more 12 L7s and then i have 4 already. i may also be getting 2 orrions

Don't cha JUST LURV... how many people...
try mixing apples, with GATES, wire with stones & planes... to "discover"? How much PAINT - their ears will HEAR - when they connect a speaker to an amp?
No wonder YOU do not read their questions properly.
?
It matters NOT- how much POWER individual speakers can "HANDLE" when correctly driven at manufacturers SE frequency tests, NOR the Amps reating (same method)
Connected FINAL impedance matching- is the ONLY critical- BEFORE powering ON
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
BUT- this vid is not the b_all_end all- as there IS another way... to connect dual voice coiled SUBS - across an AMP... (without BRIDGING them - ... and that is yo REVERSE polarise ONE coil ... and individually "feed" each "coil - OFF one or other- of the amps TWO channels... separately
(NO- do not think WTF - dumb prick- it won't work... YES IT DOES... but> YOU THEN GET an entirly DIFFERENT sub woofer channel - from your music.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
YES.. exactly WHY one serie's AND parrallels 4 "coils" ... inside the same SINGLE unit.
It's called a QUAD 'circuit" pattern.
Drastically 1/4 de-powering the STRESS on each "coil" - whilst quadrupling the speakers "effective" single_coil POWER_RATING- for a SINGLE 8 ohm coil's "apparent_ohm_loading" ... that the Amp would SEE - if you ONLY wired the one coil - to the amp.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Notice your Bascket mounted JUMPER wire - black to red.. ?
(THAT)
IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME as running two wires - from their respective terminals - AT THE AMP (non_bridged) but drestically reduces the "wire_run resistance - created by having those TWO LONG RUNS - unnescessarily going back to & from the amp... (as thats normally an AMPS common "same" voltaged EARTH terminal)
I have an old kicker 15 inch square sub with one set of terminals labelled 4 ohms, and the other terminals marked 2 ohms, how are you supposed to hook it up? I have a sony 350 watt 2ch amp, forget the model.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
as above... EACH COIL can be HARD WIRED - to its respective channel - at the amp - as the EARTH terminal does NOT alter the fact- that these SEE -the outer "ch' as well as a small benefit- U will also GET - a vague "differential - stereo at the sub...
(a feature MANY "specially made stereo ceiling pA speakers NOW USE - for higher quality - departmental store PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEMS...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Nothing.
ALL you are achieving- is to CREATE a minor resistive load.. that of the actual cable runs- for the two extra lines - between the amp - .. but- sometimes this is VERY nescessary - if one needs to "tweek_up" a low impedance circuit - to better MATCH the amps (viewed) "load_apparent" just use DOUBLE the size conducto4s - as U'd normally use - FOT BOTH RED & BLACK - for each coil set.
i want to wire 2 mofo 15's which are both 1 ohm dual voice coils. i want to hook them up parrallel. but that makes them .5 ohm a piece .25 together. do they even make amps like that????? what would i have to do to get these hoes bangen?????
i have a 4 ohm dual voice coil sub woofer and a 4-channel power amplifier. what wiring is best. should i wire one coil to one bridge nd 2nd coil to the 2nd bridge or i should connect both coils of my sub in series to one bridge only. also tell me can a 1000 watt 4-channel power amplifier power up a single sub with 4-ohm dual voice coil (800 rms) 3000w sub ??
witch wireing is the best, the series one or the paralel one? and I have 2 dual voice coil subwoofers that are 2+2 ohm and a mono amplifier, how do I wired them? can you make a video and explain to me please?
the reason for doing that is so you can wire more subs to 1 amp. 4 16ohm subs will only show about a 4 ohm load ! one of my old friends in school had 10 subs on a 2 ch amp in his van !
also the SQ is much better at higher ohms, i wish you could here really how my subs sound, wired 1 ohm their sloppy, wired 4 ohm their crisp and clean!
We have that ringtone for our house too, LOL. Nice vid though. I have two 8 ohm dual voice coil 8's that I got for free at the swap-meet for free, because the guy thought they were broken. They work fine, the surround are just completely diconnected and there is severe mechanical noise (it outweighs the bass on high volume).I'm gonna hopefully get new surrounds.Would it be possible to wire two subs in series, and connect them together in parallel (16 ohms per sub, wire the two subs in parallel)?
ok so ur saying wire each dual 8ohm in seires so they show a 16ohm load each rite? and then wiring 2, or 3 subs to the same channel on your amp? that you can do ! so 2 16 ohm subs on the same channel would be 8 ohm, you can use a basic multi meter to test the resistance.
I'm trying two wire two 16 ohms subs to reach 8 ohms (the ideal load for my JVC RX-307). But my receiver has a feature that shuts itself off when you crank up the volume on poor impendances or when it gets insanley hot (it's nearly indestructable excluding physical abuse to it).

@31Orcas check that the terminals are actually "correctly phased.. as their is another SILENT problem that exists with doing this ... and that's creating an inherant feedback AIR_LOOP between incorrectly phased cones.. ONE pushes air out- for the other to suck in - thus YOU hear nothing - but the subs are FIGHTING the 4k out of each others AIR...
THAT - the amp will see- as a demand for higher CURRENT & thus pop it's p[rotectors.
Sorry dude, but you kinda epically failed... 7 thumbs down in less than a day... ouch. But anyway, I don't really get your point. I don't have the speakers wired up and I abandoned the project because the box is too small for two subs and I need to wait for new surrounds anyway. Over the summer, I might be able to build some sub boxes.
@31Orcas Oooooh wow... NOW - THATS JUST SOOO GOOD. ~`\(eh)/`~ Lurv when THAT happens... as 7 thumbs down... ??? Means 7 of U thinkheads- had to REALY APPLY some grey matter (& actually got to vote) WAHOO - & as we all know... only the elite few (!) even BOTHER to hit those things... (most people simply move on & NOT continue reading) THUS? At least TEN_TIMES that many READ my comments & way more just glanced in passing.! (I thought ONLY the people I wrote too - read them)
I think I get what you're saying now. Are you saying that most people who actually give a thumbs up or thumbs down are only a small part of people who read the comment? Good point.
But I still don't really understand what you were trying to say before I replied...
hey, i have an audiobahn aw1000v subwoofer. It is rated at 600watts rms, what would be an ideal amp to use and the best way to wire it?

hey i got a 15" DD and its dual 2 ohm and i wanna wire it to 1 ohm, my sub has wires already installed on it stock instead of terminals on the sub, will it make a difference if i just put the negative wire to the other negative wire then put the negative from my amp onto the both of the negs on the sub? and same with the positives?
jonno3600 1 year ago
@jonno3600 yep thats what u wanna do !

thanks so much that clears it up for me i knew how to do series and parrael on electrical but was a little fuzzy on how to do it on subwoofer

Thanks.

need your help. I have a DVC Audiobahn sub. it says in the back 700watts. not sure about the ohms. wanted to know what kind of amp to run it with??. i was thinking of 1000watt amp?.. should the amp be the same wattsas the speaker? or more? i wanna push the max out of the speaker without blowing it.
upha4Q 2 years ago
good rule of thumb is 75% of the speakers watts. so like a 500-600 watt amp would be fine if u want it to last. use a multimeter to find out what ohm it is,.

i have dual 2 ohm L7s wired to 2 ohms on a zx1500.1 mono block amp with a 2 ohm load. is that good?
captaincoke3 2 years ago
yep, as good as its gonna get.
mazda2284 2 years ago
thanks man really apreciate it. Thanks for all the help man ill hit you up later on when i have an insane system. I am getting 2 more 12 L7s and then i have 4 already. i may also be getting 2 orrions

can u hook up two subs with one mono block nd how
Isaaclili42 2 years ago
u can hook alot up if u wire it rite lol ! id say the max per 1 amp would be like 16 dvc 4 ohm subs or something like that lmao !
mazda2284 2 years ago
whats better i got dual 4 ohms subs i got them at 2 ohms now is 8 better
donnie20008 2 years ago
2 ohm will = more power , 8 ohm will = more sq but less power.
mazda2284 2 years ago
ohh one more dual 2 ohms can also be wired for .5 ohms. But amps that are stable at .5 ohms are ridiculously expensive

@dgk990
(also)
I easily GET "nine" completely SEPARATE individual channels of FULL frequency surround sound.
Direct from any 2 ch STEREO - regardless whether head unit - or outputs of an aux 2 ch amp.
Plus with a little extra help- from my "vast" knowledge (in the analogue surround sound industry- for OVER 45yrs)
One can eventually GET all 64.77 million available channels from JUST a std two channel MAIN amp
(one just needs a shtlot of auxillary "amps" to drive that many FINAL channels)

BUT- this vid is not the b_all_end all- as there IS another way... to connect dual voice coiled SUBS - across an AMP... (without BRIDGING them - ... and that is yo REVERSE polarise ONE coil ... and individually "feed" each "coil - OFF one or other- of the amps TWO channels... separately
(NO- do not think WTF - dumb prick- it won't work... YES IT DOES... but> YOU THEN GET an entirly DIFFERENT sub woofer channel - from your music.
(THE FULL REAR SURROUND CHANNEL)

Sometimes- it really DOES pay to read info given
16 ohms is NOT the final "impedance loading"
READ correctly.
Two 8 ohm subs- EACH has TWO 8 ohm voice coils
Thus- wired as two subs
1st their respective dual_coils- in series, THEN connected as individual MAIN 16 ohm SINGLES ... in parallel.
Results NOT- in a single 16 ohm FINAL LOAD
But REVERTS the Amps "connected" load_impedance BACK to a standard "load_apparent" as a SINGLE 8 ohmed sub
(at four times the power)
OF ANY SINGLE COIL
QUIX4U 2 years ago

YES.. exactly WHY one serie's AND parrallels 4 "coils" ... inside the same SINGLE unit.

Guess why NO speaker voice coil - is exactly the "specified impedance - when YOU test them?

@QUIX4U asked @mazda2284 why his TESTS (as stated in the bio for this vid) would make it appear that NO test - will give the RATED speaker impedance.
But-
I am sick of waiting & U are 2
THE ANSWER is very simple
Speaker coils are AC powered & thus AC ohm rated
His testers - analogue or digital, are DC battery_powered & thus ONLY give physical DC resistive LOAD value of a coil
NOT inductive AC ohm value.
(any technician worth 1/2 his salt KNOWS THAT .! thus? this fella knows LESS)

I have an old kicker 15 inch square sub with one set of terminals labelled 4 ohms, and the other terminals marked 2 ohms, how are you supposed to hook it up? I have a sony 350 watt 2ch amp, forget the model.

ONLY wire the two ohm set... (internally it jumpers two special_coils ... instead of a different internal single coil for the four ohm)

had another look, it's an L7 kicker 15 inch square, both terminals are 2 ohms, how do i hook it up to the 4 ohm amplifier (sony xplod xm-zr602)

So if I had a DVC 2 ohm sub, there is no way I could run it on an amp @ 2 ohms?

That's what i was saying?
haha
i gotta dvc l7 2ohm..
the amp knows it's 2ohms.
so just plug it up regular.

as above... EACH COIL can be HARD WIRED - to its respective channel - at the amp - as the EARTH terminal does NOT alter the fact- that these SEE -the outer "ch' as well as a small benefit- U will also GET - a vague "differential - stereo at the sub...

Nothing.
ALL you are achieving- is to CREATE a minor resistive load.. that of the actual cable runs- for the two extra lines - between the amp - .. but- sometimes this is VERY nescessary - if one needs to "tweek_up" a low impedance circuit - to better MATCH the amps (viewed) "load_apparent" just use DOUBLE the size conducto4s - as U'd normally use - FOT BOTH RED & BLACK - for each coil set.

is there a difference in sounds between how many ohms and channels?

i want to wire 2 mofo 15's which are both 1 ohm dual voice coils. i want to hook them up parrallel. but that makes them .5 ohm a piece .25 together. do they even make amps like that????? what would i have to do to get these hoes bangen?????

i have a 4 ohm dual voice coil sub woofer and a 4-channel power amplifier. what wiring is best. should i wire one coil to one bridge nd 2nd coil to the 2nd bridge or i should connect both coils of my sub in series to one bridge only. also tell me can a 1000 watt 4-channel power amplifier power up a single sub with 4-ohm dual voice coil (800 rms) 3000w sub ??

Wait, can I wire 2 DVC 4ohm woofers to 1 ohm on a mono block amp that is 1 ohm stable? Can mono block amps be bridged?
smartpartsSUCKS 2 years ago
nope. dual 4 = 2,or 8 , dual 2 = 1,or 4
and no monos cant not be bridged

yes, some monoblocks are bridgable but not a lot of them

witch wireing is the best, the series one or the paralel one? and I have 2 dual voice coil subwoofers that are 2+2 ohm and a mono amplifier, how do I wired them? can you make a video and explain to me please?
merkandiser 2 years ago
the reason for doing that is so you can wire more subs to 1 amp.

31Orcas 2 years ago
ok so ur saying wire each dual 8ohm in seires so they show a 16ohm load each rite? and then wiring 2, or 3 subs to the same channel on your amp? that you can do ! so 2 16 ohm subs on the same channel would be 8 ohm, you can use a basic multi meter to test the resistance.
mazda2284 2 years ago
@ Mazda's last comment: Exaclty!

QUIX4U 2 years ago

WHAT @31Orcas GETS..
IS "(exactly)" ONE VERY HI_POWERED 8 OHM SUB - AS SEEN BY THE AMP - and yet each individual coil - within the ONE sub...
IS ONLY EVER SUBJECTED TO 1/4 OF THE AMPS OUTPUT (ac speaker current) - THUS THE SPEAKER WILL STILL BE ALIVE - LONG AFTER YOUR SYSTEM
