The trouble with the classic medium recipe of 60% turps to 40% stand oil is that this will quickly thicken once placed in a cup or exposed to the air for use, rendering it too tacky, and requiring that it be continuously re-thinned with turpentine. NOT a medium I would use.
Maroger is ok, but this a) is too dark which changes the color of light paints b) get tacky too fast.

So, I now use simple sun-thickened linseed oil.
