It's just balance and flavour, flares breaking lazed projectiles is as unrealistic as the way lazed weapons work in the game - but is a balance required to make choppers viable again.

I miss playing BF3, but i had to quit because it's just not enjoyable to play on ps3, either something glitches up or you get your head blown off with a USAS - Explosive rounds.

@sunlighthot When you unlock it. Javelin at 82000 Engineer Score and SOFLAM at 26000 Recon Score. But most "Recons" dont even use the SOFLAM so sometimes the Javelin is worthless and now after the nerf (the Javelin no longer onehit Helicopters) the Transporthelicopter is empty before you can shot your second Rocket. Javelin only can lock on Air Vehicles when they are targeted by an SOFLAM too, but then Flares cant confuse the Javelin because its hitting from above.

@chr0606 yeah i have the same problems with team mates. But you said your having trouble hitting targets even locked on... Make sure the soflam or laser designation stays lit up and following the vehicle until the rocket hits it. If you fire and in mid air the designation goes off, the rocket will go off track

I am playing in PS3 and using soflam + javelin when im comunicating with my squad mates. But when i play lone wolf no one paints targets and when i do no one uses javelin or guided shell.

Me and my mates sometimes have trouble hitting anything even when its locked on. Any idea why? It is both helicopters and tanks in open maps like Caspian Border rush.

SOFLAM uses laser to paint its target. It doesn't use heat seeking system or such. SO of course it can paint an aerial unit w/ laser. Last time I checked, laser is light, and light travels faster than anything we have. :D

@Protantical NO. only Jav. Funny thing is, Jav guarantee a one hit kill most of the time against heli and jets. The missile ignores flares and anything else. So if you get a lock from SOFLAM and fire ur jav, you are most certainly guaranteed to get a kill. Stinger/Isla doesn't work w/ SOFLAM.Javelin system works using laser and radar.

@Protantical ya those work too. The SOFLAM just ensures that unless the air vehicle has ECM jammers (or w/e the upgrade is called, that make them immune to lock-ons for a short period of time), your missles will never miss and will also do bonus damage.

You can tell that because when an air vehicle deploys regular flares, the igla's missile will lose the target, but not the guided missiles.

When i play as recon on a vehicle map i usually place my SOFLAM at one flank and lay down on the other. This way i help my team with vehicles and i can remotely acces the soflam to get a different view of things.

@6yka66RUS if its aiming at your then you can see the lazer signature through smoke/fire/bushes/trees etc, then it easy to line of sight and nuke with your rockets - also unless the javelin/guided shell is being fired from below you it is very unlikely to strike a chopper at long range so simply locate the soflam, spot it, fly high up, nail it, then move on - they dont tend to stop me unless there are multiple soflam/citv - in which case your ground inf should be having an easy time
