It's not so much about his father as it is about his childhood home and the way they felt about the church. The images in the song are described in his memoirs.
This man is smart about a great many things but what impresses me the most is his choice of musicians. Only Sting could be in a band with Stuart Copeland and Andy Summers and think, well this is not enough. Then he proceedes to consistantly perform with the best of the best year in and year out. My only question is how does this man walk with the huge pair he must have to carry around!
@Malzarin Andy Summers is a bit crap actually but you're tight about the level of players. He intimidated to get players above his ability to fill out the arrangement
I remember seeing this when it went to air and being blown away by his voice.
I also saw him in the flesh years later with Jungle Funk, which had Will Calhoun on drums and Doug Wimbish, needless to say that was a fucking top gig.
Pity he didn't do more with Sting, his voice is sublime. Maybe Sting felt threatened? :)
A more horrible upright bass technique I have never seen; yet he plays that damned thing in tune and sings like a bird as well.God bless the weather that brought this man to us with his gorgeous poetry and amazing musicianship
Superb. The only way Sting does things. :) You Rock Mr. Sumner!

Very good indeed, I prefer Sting's solo career to The Police, broader range of styles

Yeah I prefer his solo stuff aswell as it goes. Dont get me wrong the police stuff was also great.
