These clips are cool but totally annoying....if a decent chunk of this footage exists...than just release it...a HUGE box set charge $300 FOR YEARS 1968-71, then move forward in 2 to 3 year chunks...hearing a 5 second piece of a song is pointless.
seriously...glad this exists...now release it...and we'll pay for it. I work for Warner Brothers so think of this as free business advise :)
The Shows they did in Japan in 1971 ~1972 were amazing man i would love to see official dvds of those. Stand By Me was incredible. I had the 72 show on vinyl back in the late 70s
why have they not upgraded these films like with the albert hall footage surely they can sort it out and release these concerts on dvd id spend a lot if they would
I have a bootleg of one of these Jap shows from that year and really and truly pages guitar playing was at its zenith then pexactly then the versions he does of Celebrateon day and Communication breakdown are just so exellent the solos are the best sols I feel he ever done anywhere
Page really is in top form in the early 70's clips. It's a shame he got so sloppy in later years. He has tons of talent, but his ability has deteriorated over time.
@5jerry1 His technique has deteriorated, but his ability to improvise and lyricism in the registry is widely cited better, it depends on taste, but my favorite time of the tour is Page 75, the most unequal on the capabilities of a guitarist a rock band.
I beg to differ, try to find their performance of kashmir in the 90's. I mean it's not really all of led zeppelin playing, but if you can see, he didn't totally lose it. The late 70's was just a time when the drugs began to take a toll on the band as a whole. lol
@johnmartorelli Probably a improvisational jam...they did that alot in their sets, which makes zep probably the best band ever!!!and what sets them apart and their OWN sound which was led zeppelin
Great footage but it sucks that on every 8mm film they always cut the guitar part of moby dick and just leave the drum solo. Did people prefer to film bonzo's solo over jimmy's guitar parts?
@vincevega0 I was 6 or 7 at this time & clueless to this, just the pop music of the time, by 5th grade I was borrowing my brothers records (Zep 2 & 4) to friends homes after school, got my bell rung when he caught me..
& playing Black Dog at the bowling alley lounge Juke Box...I see all the shit goin on at that time & was a dopey little kid : )
Compare this clip of Zeppelin's audience here in 1971, to when The Beatles played in Japan in 1966 - where the crowd was as still and silent as a country night - and it's amazing the difference five years can make!
I wish there was full footage of gigs back in the late 70s. As much as these clips are amazing, it's annoying only hearing half a verse here and there.
If you think this is good well...Introducing the next big thing, and its some real quality tracks. Click my channel to open your mind up to a whole new world of musical truth. Promise. Don't forget to subscribe =]
[Plant]: "Our Percussionist: John Bonham, 'Moby Dick.. [echoing] Dick... Dick... Dick...'" Just to see John Bonham in this video, is golden... Excellent Video! Thanks for posting...
Holy crap check out Bonham at the beginning of Celebration Day around the 1:55 minute mark. God I wish they had gotten that whole song with the camera on Bonham. Greatest rock drummer that ever lived in his unbelievable prime.
This is one of what I consider to be Zep's prime (performance) years 1969-'72. No rock band before or since has equaled Led Zeppelin in their prime. Not even close.
Communication Breakdown and Celebration Day from Osaka of this year are two of the best Zep Performances I have ever heard...especially Celebration day...it is just heavenly with Pages extended dramatic extremely fast solos
There are always dislikes on Zep videos... I am an old timer at this and I understand some "real" fans not liking the mid '70's vids that were sloppy and obviously not good nights.... I don't, however, understand dislikes of their prime time stuff... Go watch something else and stop wasting everybody elses time with your dislike button... Nitwits.....
@yankeeredneck2 Said it perfectly there yankeeredneck2 !All the "real" fans, are exactly that REAL FANS'S and would think generaly would like most all material by thier favorite group, right?I agree, material of this calibur is pure and utter bliss for any fan of early Led Zeppelin material. And those of you who were actualy there,I salute you for holding your ground here against those with little or nothing else to do with thier lives apparently. And a big thank you to whoever filmed this material!!
@maxver7 Actually that's no particular song. Page's solo in Communication Breakdown was interrupted by some overzealous Japanese climbing up the fence to the stage. Plant thus addressed those fans ("Stop that thing!") and mockingly started chanting repeatedly "You!", the crowd responding each time with"Yeah!". Page then joined in with that funky riff (I guess he made it up on the very spot) with Plant singing "Check it out!"- dissolving again into the guitar solo and the final verse of the song.
My advice to you would be to give Stairway a proper listen again. Yes, it's commonly acknowelegded among Zep fans that the first notes are in all probability inspired/lifted from Spirit's Taurus. But to dismiss one of the greatest rock songs, this phantastic piece of composition, as a rip-off, to reduce this beautiful structured epic solely to that notes...
And despite the similarities the overall sound of the intro, the mood evoked, is so different - due to Page's alterations namely.
Since Stairway is a direct rip off of a song called Taurus by a band called Spirit that Led Zeppelin supported on tour it's totally possible to be hearing it 2 years "early"
You know that kid in high school? That kid that was always wearing a Led Zeppelin t-shirt? That kid who had a Led Zeppelin t-shirt for every day of the week?
God I wish music like this was being made today... You know how you get that tingly feeling that runs from your head to your toes when you hear one these old masterpieces, well I never get that from music today... This video just gives me chills because these guys knew they were going to be legends before they were..
Australia 1972 wasn't recorded in multitracks. HTWWW was really good but I think the band was way more on fire In Japan. Plant's voice was better, as well Bonzo's playing. Tokyo audience also were nuts! HTWWW audiences were too quiet.
It is said the sound quality of Japan 1971 multitracks weren't as good as HTWWW, and that's the known reason why they haven't been released yet. I really hope Jimmy Page will change his mind and see the historical importance of the release of Japan 1971 next year
Will we get Live In Japan 1971 at last? for years it have been rumored that the 5 nights performed in Japan (Tokyo 23-24, Hiroshima 27 and Osaka 28-29 September) were recorded in multitracks for a live album in Japan only. It goes beyond saying that the Japan nights are considered Zep at the very best, and prefered over TSRTS or HTWWW. A proper 3 CD (with Tangerine, Friends and full WLL meddley) would be without a doubt the best ever live Zep release.
@zeppelin1996 I think youll find that the cine footage shot by someone in the audience has been synched to a well known recording from the zep bootleg vults, its normal for cine footage to be patchy due to the camera film running out frequently, hope this helps
Plant's voice at his all time peak .. what a singer he was. The sound on this footage is brilliant .. it's just such a shame it's cut up into pieces. I hope Zep are putting the best of these together for a concert bootleg DVD release.
Amazing footage!!! How the hell did this surface? Very rare..
Is there more? Theres alot of talk about a possible 1969 Central Park dvd release soon also. Its time for another Zeppelin dvd release c'mon Jimmy we know theres more to be seen!
