This caller sounds an awful lot like Jack (his user name is togetherforpeace), he's appeared on the Magic Sandwich Show as well (look it up, it was the 29th May 2011 show).

Logic is not based on evidence. We have beautiful proofs in math that only use logic and axioms are based purely on those assumed axioms and logical rules. But they do not rely on science at all. Science ASSUMES the laws of logic for itself. So logic and philosophy are basically the forefathers of science because without them, modern science couldn't exist. Rationality doesn't necessarily depend on evidence, though it usually does.

With my parents they claim to be catholics, but with a simple discussion I proved to them that they arent real biblical christians and their beliefs are obviously agnostic/deist but they call themselves christians for social reasons.

Logic is not based on evidence. We have beautiful proofs in math that only use logic and axioms are based purely on those assumed axioms and logical rules. But they do not rely on science at all. Science ASSUMES the laws of logic for itself. So logic and philosophy are basically the forefathers of science because without them, modern science couldn't exist. Rationality doesn't necessarily depend on evidence, though it usually does.
I think you guys are too close to the ideology of scientism.

I keep trying simple logic, pointing out inconsistencies in the bible, and maintaining a calm demeanor. With my parents they claim to be catholics, but with a simple discussion I proved to them that they arent real biblical christians and their beliefs are obviously agnostic/deist but they call themselves christians for social reasons.

@thegatesoftroy Just to be clear, these videos are fan-uploads, so its not the people from the show that decides the titles of the videos. And the sentence "Argument from Ignorance" is an actual thing (its a logical fallacy). So its not something Matt just made up to sound rude.

He doesn't assume that theists are ignorant, he simply points out when they say irrational things. The "argument from ignorance" label is a logical fallacy that this caller committed multiple times and Matt got frustrated because he wouldn't admit it. It really is one of the worst arguments for belief.

Except the caller IS ignorant and stupid. By any standards of the word he is. He says things and then directly contradicts himself. Numerous times he is corrected only to reword the exact same ignorant statements...
Matt was assuming nothing. The caller defined what his argument was, which revealed it to be an argument from ignorance; by no means a rare occurance within the lands of theistic idiocy.
Matt may not be polite, but he is correct.

They are senseless, faithless, heartless and rebellious toward their parents. @valio2750 You need to watch the clip again. The point is that people like yourself make these absolute assertions that there is a god, that the rules are you have to worship and if you don't you burn in hell and Matt is just asking what your justification for such assertions is. If your only reason for believing these things is 'cause it's in the bible I can point you to other, older works that have historical accuracy and speak of very different gods than yours (the Illiad for example).
