I was reading this just today: "Arlen Vanke built the Plymouth Super Stocker (426 Hemi) with one purpose - to smoke the SS/C record where Bill Jenkins and the Chevy guys were enjoying a cushioned index going into the '69 World Finals. He took it to the last divisional race of the year and reset the record in a Sunday evening final-round charge. He hammered the number so hard that the ZL1 cars could not even qualify at Dallas the next month."
only one of these is still owned by it origanal buyer. It only has 9 miles on it and has always been a drag car. Its never seen the street even though it could still be registered for the street easily. Its car # 16. Purchesed new from Fred Gibb in '69 by Ken Barnhart. it's hugger orange and has a 4-speed.He won the '70 Super Stock Championship in it with a 11.61 second pass at 121.13mph. He still runs in events today.
@CamaroAmx ok and? if its still running today its got more than 9 miles on it! I've seen the car and Ken before. I use to go to all the super car reunions My other ZL-1 has 630 original miles!
the 2012 zl1 has a 427 LSX supercharge motor thats factory from GM a hennessey is build aftermarket from the hennessey factory its not fully a GM product GM build the Zl1 to beat the new 5.0 gt 500 and GT mustangs that Ford is selling and it will it puts out 180 hp mor and 210 fp of tourqe then the new 2012 mustand boss or gt 500
If I remember correctly, the factory rated the ZL1 it at 435hp; but like the L88, it was severely underrated. Hot Rod Mag ran a 3.73 equipped Camaro to a low-mid 11s and mentioned a 4.11 equipped Corvette running 10.70 in a "69 article.
@copocamaro oooooya that ls9 hpe700 is one bad sumbitch. I herd you can get a 800hp and 1000hp ls9 too. But if i ever got a 2010 camaro it would be the zl575. Anything over 600 horse's would be to sceray for me haha.
i would love to have that car the aluminum block only weights 110lbs thats fucking amazing just stock it would beat most cars today imagine back in the day having 1 of those
This is the basic factory produced model...My stepdads cousin actually raced for fred gibb back in the day and drove the 1969 zl1 but the one he drove was actually made for the track and only one was made...go to google and type in fred gibb camaro
nice story but completly not true! all the original 50 cars were quite the same. GM never made a special one for racing the ZL1 was made for racing it was not meant to be on the road.
@10mak01 the L89 was a 396-375 HP with alum heads only 311 built. the L88 were 427 iron block copo cars any car could be built as a copo all it means is central office production order, there are station wagons that are copo
@copocamaro That seems like a very deliberate number but someone raised the possibility of some additional cars being manufactured for sale in Canada.
this 69 zl1 camaro run 11.68 officialy said by ultimate something magazine ...and theres proof look it up on youtube ...man fucken quick for stock and n/a.....shit i love vette and camaro zl1 soo bad!
When was your escalade made. I'm certain it wasn't 1969 so maybe your modded out decades newer car is a little more powerful. And well... that was a stock ZL1 with a 12 second 1/4 mile.... yeah your car is so much cooler

@cookster3333 UMM you going to say that Hennessey also came up with the ZR-1 corvette and the CTS-V caddi to? the camaro is that same motor
copocamaro 8 months ago
@cookster3333 um, he 2012 ZL1 is a supercharged 5.3l LSA. factory motor, not aftermarket. it is intended to beat the boss because its faster.
