its funny how i used to live in that neighborhood for 15years,and no one when to defara pizzaria...how this pizzaria became famous is beyond me... I HEARD OTS BEEN CLOSED DOWN SO MANY TIMES BY THE DEPT. OF HEALTH. SO MANY TIMES..IF YOU WANT GOOD PIZZA GO TO VALENTINOS ON 86ST AND 17THAVE..GOOD FOOD AND GOOD SERVICE.....
@MrRollerjam Amen! that is all I have to say. I grew up in Midwood and ate pizza all over this neighborhood back in the 1980s. This guy's place was empty and he served the greasiest slice you could ever find. Then the NY Times blessed his rat infested store and Viola ... everyone loves him. Jeeeeeez
the old man needs help. he takes pride in what he does but he keeps burning the pies. its too much for him and it costs too much for us. had a bad experience there . didnt try the pizza walked out . bad customer service and overpriced. the pie looked like a wet thin cracker. from what i heard about this place i was expecting real pizza that i remember years ago. nice big slices with thick crust and premium sauce, spices and cheese dripping off the edges . those were the days.
wake up people 5 dollars a slice? america is finished! just chaos. arrived at 6pm worker came to the window said they would reopen at 645 (opened at 7 ) she took our order. we were second on line outside. we went in ordered a 30.oo pie (crazy right). by 830 after they served about 25 people ahead of us (probably their regulars) . every third pie was burned and the place had no ventalation. didnt try the pizza. we became smart and walked out without getting ripped off. nathans was great!
Hes a selfish old man. He overcharges for inconsistent pizza and puts none of that money towards hiring help or fixing up the place. Thats why his loyal customers are waiting upwards of an hour, and the place has failed multiple health inspections. On top of that, the quality varies, sometimes the pizza is too thin and burnt to hell. Hate to sound like a troll but I used to love this place, until I realized they don't give a shit about their customers.
DiFara's these days has way too many out of town tourists, I went a few weeks ago and it was PACKED, no seating. The slices are half the size of what they were, they sure taste good, but there are many excellent pizza slices all over nyc.
They burn the crust and the wait is too long. At first I didn't like it because it reminded me of microwave pizza but they have special stuff that they give you to put on it that makes it taste great. I've never had such good bad pizza in my life. It's perplexing.
What stands out? The crust, sauce, cheese and fresh herbs. Pretty much everything! What really stands out id Dominic himself.
The thing about youtube comments is people seem to forget that all of us have different tastes. Some say Di Fara's is too "greasy". I can see where a person can feel that way -- he uses a hefty amount of olive oil. Some also feel the crust is "burnt". But the char on the crust does add to the flavor as well as the texture. Not all will rank this highest, but most do.
I have been to DiFara's, I waited over 40 minutes for two slices and it was not the best pizza I ate in Brooklyn, Lenny's in Park Slope(the one in the Travolta movie) and L and B in Bensonhurst both make better pizza.
I went to this place last year, its nearly 5 dollars for a slice. Yes 5 bucks for a slice and it was actually the worst pizza I had in NYC. This place is a total tourist trap, you can go to any pizza joint in the boroughs and get a great slice of pizza for a fraction of the cost of DiFara.
You're an idiot. It's not a tourist trap at all - like Grimaldi's. Of course you have a few smart tourists that are willing to spend a couple extra bucks to have the best pizza in NYC, but a lot of locals too. You've embarrassed yourself.
If you go here, make sure you prepare for a fight! It is absolute chaos! Just get a regular pie. TRUST ME!! When they open the doors, one person needs to run to a table and one person needs to run for the counter. They don't care who was there first or who got their order in first. It is the craziest place i have ever eaten at. Also... try Grimaldi's in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
hi I speak to you from the italia and he is the uncle of my mother and the brother of my grandfather and he che it feels him/it on Mondays for telefono.ciao america
Sure do. His pizza is so good that it's evil. Hence the fact that it is infamous. You can't stop eating the stuff. Are you always suck a dick? I mean, do you live for saying cruel things to people?! What gives?
@pAbedaNSK you sound like one of those tools who always tries to correct others and feels superior in the process. guess what fuckface, you're a shithead.
The secret is the oil they put on it, plus the water for the dough. I'm trying to think what oil they put. NO place in S. Florida does that with the oil. They must put anchovies in the sauce and cooked onions., not alot but a little. They put 2 kinds of oil, must be Extra virgin and maybe Spanish olive oil., Maybe.
Seems tacky putting basil on a New York style pizza... I mean, if u put it on a Neopolitan yes, perfecly acceptable... but on a NY style pizza??? Hmm...
But they call him a master of his craft, so who am I to argue...
Closed down by the NYC Board of Health!!! Not once, but at least twice! How is he so great!?!!?

By the way - It's well worth the $. The key is to buy an entire pie with 3 friends. You will each have 3 slices. Each pie is $25. Do the math.
