  • Before the NHRA banned George's car he received an award from the NHRA for engineering excellence. OGM is a genious engine builder with the red and blue Mustang. With his twin turbo Boss 429 Mustang he was years ahead of the competition and the NHRA had to get rid of him to level the playing field. Same thing with Bob Glidden, he too was so dominant that the NHRA went to great lenghts to slow him down and give the other drivers a sense that they had a chance. OGM lost very few races.

  • Ohio George is from my hometown of Dayton, Ohio his shop is about 10 minutes from my house. He was good friends with my uncle Labe Gurino, who had a rod shop of his own and used to do work for George.

  • hows come you all so smart about cars but don't realize that is evil kneivel and one of his speeches against drugs and the music is by knukel drager? yes the nhra set turbos back 20 years and continue to make stupid rules without regard to anyone but themselves.

  • Ford is my cup of tea.

  • I think the real gasser and the baddest car he had was the pale blue 67 or 68 mustang called the MALCO Gasser. I was at Capitol Raceway in Crofton Maryland at an all gasser meet, he was the only Ford car in a field of 32 and he destroyed them all, Stone, Woods & Cook, K.S. Pittman the whole bunch. He had a SOHC motor in that car. For some reason I could not find any of the Chevy boys to talk trash to that night. This was in Sept., 1970

  • George Montgomery of Dayton,Oh.? is this the same George Montgomery that owns Georges Speedshop down the street from my parents.Seriously like 4 houses down is the shop.wow.

  • @James198779 yeah i know him

  • Had the chance to meet George last year , just a great down to earth guy. He had some of the best looking cars ever to race.We are losing these guys too frequently . Now that was DRAG RACING !

  • That was quite the car in it's day and still is today. One thing that never gets mentioned very often is that Ohio George campaigned a Turbo 4 cylinder Pinto in the late '70's in one of the modified compact classes very successfully. I think it eventually got into the 9's back then with carburetors. A very talented individual indeed. He and Buddy Ingersoll inspired my Dad back then to give up V8's for a couple years to race turbo 4's. I guess we predated the ricer guys by 30 years!!

  • @capriracer351

Montgomery and Ingersoll, what a team!

The Ford Pinto you mentioned ran in the AA/Modified Compact class I think.

It regularly reset class record and forced the NHRA to regularly change the class index.

Buddy Ingersoll later ran a Buick V6 Turbo which ran as EITHER a BB/AT (Turbo Altered) or a Pro Stock.

This car won Comp Elim. at one nationals and almost won another as a Pro Stock. Later Pro Stock regulations made the class v8 only which eliminated this car.

  • @OzzInter Check this out, I have the complete tape of a NHRA event at a place called thunder valley and Buddy Ingersoll ran that Buick in Pro Stock. He put them all down but lost in the final to Bob Glidden by .02 of a second 8.33 to a losing 8.35. The only problem is that the tape was recorded in 1985 on a betamax recorder, can't play it anymore.

  • @OzzInter Oh by the way I learned soon after that meet in Bristol Tenn. NHRA banned that car from Pro Stock. Now what's so ironic about this is Buddy had a Grand National buick that came from the factory with the same engine he used with a turbo charger if you remember but all of the other pro stocker had hybrid engines that were never used in street driven cars. Which one do you think should be the real Pro Stocker, duh.

  • funny part is, thats not a gasser, its an AFX car.. nice Boss 429.. damn I was born too late.. I woulda loved the 60s car scene

  • The photos used in this clip are of the actual car that RM Auctions took, in fact this clip was made by RM Auctions. They sold the car for 132K in 2009. Although it did not look like other Gassers at the time, it was 100% Gasser per "Gasser Regulations". Feel free to contact the car's builder at georgesspeedshop . com
