"Just imagine how strong it would be if all the blocks were thoroughly glued together!"
This is dumb. Don't ask us to "imagine" you doing your own job. Please glue them together and *show us* how strong they are (compared to other materials) and while you're at it post some cost figures, otherwise it's pointless to even discuss your product.
IMO although easy to build with, Zipblocks would make a weak structure and the final cost would be high.
Cost is primarily driven by materials. Raw material costs for 2 Zipblocks is roughly (sheet plywood / 333). 23/32 cabinet grade plywood costs about $33 a sheet wholesalemeans each Zipblock costs about10 cents. An eight foot (48-cube) furniture grade 2 Zipblock stud runs about $4.80.
In about 4-6 weeks we will be testing a 16x12x6 Zipblock beam to failure. This beam will be made out of 2 Zipblock studs (96-length) that are glued together. Well post the results to our website.
When I posted the reply all speech-marks disappeared. The beam that is mentioned will be 16 feet long by 12 inches by 6 inches. The Zipblocks discussed are 2 inch type.
It will be better if the blocks are reinforced with steel bars and concrete.
