  • I play that type of drum, and I can honestly say that I can learn some things from this guy!

  • I don't play tenors (I play snare), but my friend plays tenors and he told me that yamaha tenors are pretty hard to get scrapes out of compared to dynasty and pearl. Tell me if I'm wrong, but that might be why he's hitting a lot of rim like some of the comments say.

  • i used to play like this. then i took an arrow to the knee

  • @Kioko212 k bet

  • Damn, i wish i played like that

  • Wat did he place???

  • But will it blend?

  • Tim Jackson, he'll getcha

  • Better than his 07 solo, in my opinion

  • It's a great solo but he's hitting the rims a bit much, no?

  • Where's the f'n energy? And Yamaha drums sound like shit

  • really fantastic! the best one!

  • lol beer

  • I wish I could play with mallets in my drumline. I love the more full sound. With sticks it has more cut, but I love the warm sound of a mallet.

  • @kingodaskins question. when people say tenor "mallets" do they mean like the regular sticks they use? like the ones that are similar to the hybrid but the original? have the big round head thing, and have that grip? cause i hear people all the time talkin bout wanting to use tenor mallets...n i was never sure if they meant the original/reg tenor sticks, or like bass drum stick/mallets, or what

  • @TacoOnABoat Technically, a tenor mallet is a tenor "stick" with a large head usually made out of nylon. Though, I think mallet is an umbrella term for anything used to play tenors now that some sticks are specifically made for tenors.

  • I definatly wana have a beer with this guy

  • I just shit my pants man.....

  • I play the quads, i can do this

  • @dR14356 put up a vid!!!

  • @drumkid1982 get me the music, and i will

  • @dR14356 dont have this solo, but i have his 2007 one

  • @dR14356 Not likely.

  • as a guy who plays on yamahas, i'd say they make your scrape technique better

  • 28 people are tri-tom players...

  • Dam, was it just me, or did his rolls sound abnormally..... smooth?? It sounded tight! Good job dude haha

  • ESO LO HAGO YO CON LOS OJOS CERRADOS Y SIN MANOS! jajajajaja XD

  • i like his playing style

  • he is pretty frekin amazing, those roles sounded amazing two lol

  • Man I love the sound of those tenors.

  • Why does drum 2 sound weird when he does rolls...

  • must have sucked going up against tim jackson lol. i would have shit my pants

  • Great!!

  • 2:34-2:38

lol it happens to the best of us

    and he still smiles

  • any know where he marched before this?

  • 1:35 nice thumbs up

  • san marcos high alumni whats good.. so am I. back when that school had a legit drumline then they kicked me off. fake

  • yea im stupid... took me awhile to figure out hes IN mystikal.. thought he was being superficial and wanted to be called the "mystikal" colby beers...

  • This is so sick! I probably wont be able to do that as a senior.

  • I know a few guys that know Colby a bit. And Tim, for that matter. From what i've heard, Tim IS better player than Colby, but I've also heard Colby is a better writer. The music he writes is just too cool, from what i've seen some of the guys playing. Check some of his other stuff out.

  • I think he should have won in 04, I thought this was better than his other solo, though there are a couple rims the technique and relaxed shoulders makes this possibly the best tenor solo I've ever seen. And seriously, 2:36 to the end is just.... what

  • man ! 1:34

  • Very nice!

Video rating is a 9.4 of the 10.0 max.

  • He Should Of Won. He Was A Little Better Than Tim Jacskon That Year..

  • @InnerCityFB wait, do you know what place he got?

  • nah idk but he was a bit better.

  • @InnerCityFB I believe he placed 9th....frankly, he should've placed higher (and DID in 07 with BD...winning I&E).

  • agreed man

check out my vids of playing tenor...

  • 3:25 pricless face!

  • lol

  • travis barker sticks!!!!!!

  • I hope you know mystikal is a drum corps...

  • hes good i like the solo. but it was extremely boring to watch he doesnt perform very well

  • some of the heads didnt seed properly

  • really nice!!! crazy solo!

broke my arm no drum for 6 weeks=(

  • He needs to look up from his drums. they won't go anywhere if he does.

  • great solo, but i think he stole some of the licks from the 2003 tim jackson solo (for example the switching to traditional grip), but then again tim jackson could have stole some licks from somebody else......

  • too bad the lick are from tim's 2004 i and e solo

  • dude this is 2004. im sure colby's intentions were to rip off tims licks. he probabily snuck out from mystikal every night and drove to concord and said fuck u tim im gunna steal ur shit. lol sarcasm....

  • @DieNaSty4me lol!

  • you say he stole some licks yet you only quote a grip! dont comment if you are dumb and besides everyone steals from each other but if you wanna call out thieves you should first point out Tim Jackson and if you asked him I'm sure he would admit it. Bachman = the originator

  • yea thats something that is good to try not to do, the more you learn not to the beter you can get.

  • 2:35

  • this is truly awesome! :D

  • sweet last name

  • @samjaramillo

    you're dumb.

  • @KBoe4 your just jealous...

  • colby beers... what a great frat name lol

  • haha

  • Hey dude, I'm a sax player and even I thought that was amazing.

    Congrats.

  • damnnnnnnnnn

  • I would have a tough time programing those patterns let alone playing them in real time... the kid is good

  • the ending was amazing

  • wat a punk.

  • haha he almost dropped his stick at 2:35

  • The drums aren't going anywhere. You don't have to stare at them.

  • do you also say that to tim jackson? ;) Probably a tad shy or something :D

  • Haha I'm just jokin around man. This guy (or any DCI tenor player) could kick my ass without picking up a stick lol

  • mystikal still around?

  • acutually they're starting some weird project where the brass is outa cali. and percussion is from the Rio Grande Valley, its waaaay deep in texas. so its called i think the so. cal. and so. tex project.

  • actually everyone but the guard was from texas

  • ah ok! :) my bad. i only heard a bit about it. sorry :/

  • hah its cool i marched there this season i think they just barely put our last lot videos up

  • yeah man, amazing chops... but so dry. just very boring to me

  • DONT BE A HATA ALL YO LIFE SON

  • omg this guy is amazing!

  • he doesn't have much emotion

  • haha, he does wen he flips his sticks somewhere around 2:30

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, I hate how those Yamahas are set up. Like, you can't play scrapes out across the drums easily.

  • @Rogers1977 dude if they are put together right they are amazing now i do hate playing on pearls they are almost impossible to get flat

  • @whitecastleawesome It's all about the screws on the inside that hold the drums together. If they're tightened too much, they embed themselves into the wood and the drums sag.

  • @Rogers1977 its because they set their rims so high, i hate it too

  • @Rogers1977 its called chops... like my hs tech sucks at tuning... like my drums sound like bass drums and the rims are so high.. i still get clear sweeps

  • This is good and all, but let me tell you about this dude I stumbled on. I don't even like new school rap like that but I must admit he impressed me. Search "Vthov Obama Inaguration Song" and you'll see what I'm talking about.

  • i think this guy is the beast

  • partyboy4alltime

those are vic firth scott johnson vega tenor sticks

  • 2:01 to 2:34 was pretty nice.

  • love the right handed tradish.

  • WOW *****

  • Is that the same solo tim jackson played with three sets of tenors?

  • no dif one kinda similar pattern i beleive but no

  • what? NO!

  • what kind of sticks are those?

  • those are made by vic firth

  • Since he didn't awnser your question, they look like the Vic Firth Vega's

  • one of his drums, i think #2 sounds dead...maybe its just me, but it's not very vibrant...for all you hating on this video...colby has some serious skill. respect.

  • I agree I hear it too

  • I haver yet to understand why people do nothing but dog this solo. Its not bad at all, not in the least bit, sure there were a lot of rims, but hes young, what do you expect. I would venture to say this is his rookie year, concidering mystical is open class, right?

The solo was not as clean as it could of been, but it was still clean. You still have time to learn, you can never be a true master, you always have something to learn. And look at this guy, he was tenor champ in 2007.

  • i agree with u. this guy has improved alot. i mea common. center tenor at blue devils?? that pretty much explains itself.

  • Who did he play for?

  • mystical

  • Perfect!!!

  • no you couldnt...liar

  • omg ur so cool PROVE IT

  • Why would i waste my time proving it to some moron on youtube that thinks i cant play?

  • Why would you post a comment stating you're better? That's a little egotistical, don't you think? You're probably a 12 year-old that doesn't know any better, but if you really are that good then it's safe to say you're a prick, considering you're comments.

  • spymaster, you don't brag without proof.

  • Douche McBag.

  • shoowt ima try to march for them

  • how did he place?

  • this coming from mystikal one of the wackest so called drum corps on the planet hahaha lmfao.....

  • um colbe went on to play for vanguard, Blue Devils, and RCC-indoor, and he still has another year in RCC left.

  • pwned.

Colby has got fat beats in him. He also teaches a wgi world class line.

  • So does that mean Jeremy Somers is an age out or are they the same year for that?

  • colbe was still a virin in 2004! - dar

  • what i meant was that colbe is awesome.

  • his hands are like floating water

  • I play that type of drum, and I can honestly say that I can learn some things from this guy!

  • I don't play tenors (I play snare), but my friend plays tenors and he told me that yamaha tenors are pretty hard to get scrapes out of compared to dynasty and pearl. Tell me if I'm wrong, but that might be why he's hitting a lot of rim like some of the comments say.
