Each time a spider needs to stretch a leg back out, it must pump fluid into that leg. Then, to bend the leg back, pressure is relaxed and the fluid flows out of the leg as the muscles do their work. So when they die there's no fluid being pumped, its only the muscle working pulling the legs in towards their body.

Since they are weak, it can't adequately crush its prey and so the metasoma is filled with powerful venom. that one happens to be a fat tail. It's generally who gets to who first and gets the venom in there. Spiders will win if they have size advantage. Scorpions will win if they are larger, or if size is equal.
