  • hope this helps. i just recently did a pure uchimata class with some of my more advanced kids. check it out and good luck, buddy. auss!

  • the basic things i would say (your sensei has probably already told you these things): 1) supporting foot central and deep, at least on the same line as uke's feet; 2) you need to make sure that you close the gap between you and uke as you enter, by getting underneath him (bending your knees); 3) when you sweep, your body has to come down as your leg comes up, like a body-long rigid plank. if uke is shorter, it should be easier - a centrally placed supporting foot should lift him automatically.

  • uchimata isn't an easy throw. i've just started teaching my kids it and sometimes i find that it's easiest to quickly review the basic parts that make up the throw without too much deep analysis and then start trying to just get the feel of the throw and let your body adapt to the throw. everyone's uchimata is different - from inoue's (who has freakishly large forearms that allow him to hold the tsuri-te with a hooked wrist) to yamashita's (who has a much more classical tsuri-te) to saito...

  • why dont you just get a padded floor instead of throwing each other onto a small target its much easier.

  • @kwfsuperstar I agree with you. I absolutely hate practicing uchi mata on a crash pad. However, this particular floor has those cheap puzzle mats an inch thick and it's on top of concrete. An upgrade in flooring costs thousands of dollars that we don't have.

  • That one at 35 seconds was nice. Where is that?

  • @PwnThe813 Thanks! The uchi mata performed after the 0:26 second mark was after I made adjustments. There was about ten minutes worth of adjusting by Dave (remember him?) in terms of foot placement. There is still a ton of room for improvement but the one at 0:34 is a step in the right direction especially when you consider uke is shorter than me. I have trouble with this throw on shorter people. TNT is my Judo club but I help Dave teach Judo at Southwest Florida's Elite MMA when I can.
