Comparison between Tamiya gearbox speed and IMPACT gearbox and IMPACT hopupgears

Is the original Tamiya gearbox really that unreliable? Which one out of the TU3 and TU with hopup is the most realistic speed wise?

Let me rephrase that.. I don't see the point in going the Hopup route if your going to run stock plastic tracks. I can see opting for the standard Impact TU if you were after a fair amount of extra torque with your plastic tracked tank.

the purpose of the video is not to show which gearbox or set up is better but rather just to show potential customers the differences in speed between the various gearbox setups.

I chose to run plastic tracks on all the different gearboxes as to start a common benchmark. Unfortunately Tamiyas original gearboxes break for a wide variety of reasons sometimes due to the terrain the tank is run on and others just sheer bad luck.

The Impact with hop up only has slightly more torque than the Standard Tamiya, so why would one want to buy that if they are going to run stock Tamiya plastic tracks like you did in your demo? It would seem the only reason to go for these TUs would be to allow the running of metal tracks which would normally strip the stock Tamiya gearboxes.

Oh yeah i forgot to mention that with the added torque from the IMPACT gearboxes and hopups, when the tank is down to it last few lives during tank battling, the IMPACT equipped tank does not suffer as much mobility penalties as the Tamiya gearboxed tank. with the IMPACT gearboxes, we're still able to pivot the tank whereas the Tamiya equipped will not. - thanks again for your comments.
