  • The title of the video is misleading

  • AWOLOWO, THE BEST PRESIDENT NIGERIA NEVER HAD.

  • Thank you for the documentary. I am a Nigerian who grew up in the U.S., so I have missed all the tribalism. There are many of us here in this community who are truly hungry for the history of Nigeria. Most of us want more of the historical facts, and clips like that of Mr. Awolowo's eloquent speech. The type of documentaries which allow us to draw our conclusions about Nigeria's past leaders. Thank you for this posting.

  • This is my own tiibute to papa awo....he was avisionary..First tv, radio station probaly in Africa.. Free Education, free heath care etc.e was smart to realise to build roads in small town so they can bring their produce to larger market (ie Lagos ,Ibadan)therefore prosperiity for small farmers, markert people..I bet you if Awo was in power , he wold have realized in order to have progressive nation , we need powerr/electicity to power all our industry etc.Awo. would have made it happen..

  • The Yoruba nation hold their civilization and sophistication to the late sage chief Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo,All the generation of yoruba race will never forget you ,the man whose name won election overwhelmingly thirteen years after his death may your soul rest in perfect peace.

  • @MsDeejayreal I didnt know Chiefs name is Jeremiah . He was such a hero and his contribution to the society I will make sure he is never forgotten even after my death. Oh Great man you may be dead now but your legacies will forever live. Sir Garry Karters

  • jekoyemijohnson1 Chief Awolowo was a greate visionary and infatigable leader, jekoyemijohnson D whole Nigerians especially the Yorubas will continue to remember him for his contributions to the westerners, we shall continue to remember him for ever. Thank u ladisoyode Pls . post AWO LO F'OBA LE AWO LO'FOBA LE AND GBOGBO AWON ORE AWOLOWO GBOGBO WON LO JERI EKE MO by ONI-SUBERU & HIS ORCHESTRA FROM ONDO

  • Awolowo was a Yoruba leader, who gained this leadership role by providing social amenities, education and health to the people resident in the Yoruba speaking areas irrespective of their ethnic origin. He was never allowed to act as a Nigerian leader thats is the reason why we Yorubas will be thankful for all he did in the western region. Obasanjo allowed political parties to be based on ethnic origin in 1979 which further led to the development of anti-Awos especially by the Ibos.

  • Safari u are right, Igbos benefitted from free education, free health and cheaper University fees, l do not know how old u are but l was too young at the time l am 36now but u forget igbos have lived in Yoruba land for over a 100years Ibadan, Lagos, so we were also part and parcel of Yoruba society, he was a great man, if he was like Abiola he would have been president, Do not forget Igbos voted en masse for Abiola and Obasanjo, l am not anti Yoruba just stating the facts about Awolowo period.

  • safari, u ask me why god chose the jews, l will tell you why because they followed his way because of Abraham ready to sacrifice his only son thats why and it extended to his descendants. God also love me and you if u follow him. See the way u think Igbos self deceit? Safari27. l will vote for Awolowo if he was alive today, liked the man but he was a Tribalist, he gave Igbos only 22pounds after the war no matter how much u had in u account. abandoned property issues in Lagos and so on. u want mo

  • Why do you people accused Awolowo of being tribalistic??? Oh yah he was tribalistic and yet he did not discriminate against the Igbos coming to his territory to enjoy free education, free health etc??? My wife is Igbo and her parents actually confirmed that it was Awo policy in Western Nigeria that helped them to be educated. They migrated from east to Ibadan to freely enjoy all the good things your so-called "tribalistic" Awo provided for his people...

  • FACTS AWOLOWO was a DEVIL and still is!if the lLORD is not in our side people like AWOLOWO and his fellow DEMONS will want to sweep us away,if the LORD is not in our side! they will want to torn our flesh by their teeth!PRAISE BE TO THE LORD MOST HIGH MAKER OF HEAVEN AND EARTH

  • @moscolah ...haha...you re cracking me up here with laughter! I will have to assume that you weren't old enough to enjoy or have a taste of all them good things this your so-called "devil" did for his people with just "Cocoa Produce" money. Or maybe your parents 're not one of those lucky Igbos that benefited from his good governance and vision! While Azikiwe was busy chasing shadow and playing 2nd fiddle to the Hausas, Awo was building a solid foundation for his own people!

  • @moscolah so whats your point, mate?

  • niranyemi l think Awolowo was one the best technocrats in nigeria, he had vision, remind me of todays Raji Fashola, but he was a tribalist period. if l was of age of at the time l would have voted for him. he did a lot of good things in western region first television station in africa, free education, free health, scholarships.

  • my people ignore the comment of so-called realAFRO and any other comment that is against baba awolowo.

  • Mega Nigerian Queen igbos hurl insults at Awo, because of what he did after the war, he only allowed them to have 22pounds irrespective of how much u had in your account before the war, that was cruel and inhuman. But if l was of age to vote at that time l would still have voted for him as an igbo because he had vision, very intellgiient, handle economy but his weakness he was a tribalist l am 37years old now so l was too young at the time. l would give him credit where credit is due

  • MegaNigeriaQueen before you open u mouth look at statistics many of the 419boys are not majority Igbo, some are Edo, and other parts of Nigeria. l work in law enforment in Usa. Majority of the doctors, Engineers, honest Nigerians here are Igbos. Yes it is true a lot of igbos are into fast money like other Nigerians. But Many igbos are very educated and work very hard. so please think before u open your mouth.

  • he was great man with great ideas, free education, free health but l hate to say this he was a tribalist to the core, but he did do good things for his people

  • @heybaba77

Who is a tribalist in this world ? Who started tribalism ? Read your bible from Genesis to Revelation, you will see that God did not call any other people His own other than the Jews. Why are you people NOT calling God a tribalist ?

It amazes me that the Igbos were not calling the Hausas who usually kill them in hundreds in the slightest provocation tribalists. Salvation shall come to the Igbos the moment they realise that they problem , which is 'ingratitudes and self deceit'

    Henry

  • The Lord God endowed Chief Jeremiah Oyeniyi Obafemi Awolowo (of blessed memory) with Wisdom and Understanding. It is unfortunate that he was born in a nation of Nigeria - where his attributes and principles were not allowed to be displayed. O ma se e o, Omo Nigeria, e se eyi tan.

  • "CHIEF AWOLOWO KEPT NIGERIA ONE WITH WISE COUNSEL". -tonyajayi

The above writer above must be under influence of hallucinating substance?

Awo that set the whole Western region on fire with selfish politics and deceived the Igbos into thinking that when Ojukwu release his dry arse from prison, he will lead the Yorubas out of Nigeria if the Igbos decide to go... He turned around when the Igbos declared independence to join the Sharia North in genocide!

Stop insulting us with One Nigeria crap!!

  • This video is a masterpiece!!!. An awesome tribute to the best leader in NIGERIA...CHIEF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO AND HIS WIFE. I am a benefactor of the FREE UNIVERSAL PRIMARY EDUCATION program he instituted in Western Nigeria in 1960. This is the only education I ever needed afterall. The poetry, the images and the song are just perfect. I will sub for this!!!. THANKS.

  • @tonyajayi: same here I benefited a lot from his policies generally too and I thank God for him and that legacy is what is still with us Westerners till today and being passed on from generation to generation but pple like IBB wants to destroy that legacy. I say to you today IBB, it will not work! It is rather you and your generations born and yet unborn that will be destroyed and sent to extinction. Amen!

  • @MegaNigerianQueen You got my sub for these fantastic comments on this page!!!.

This is a tribute by itself from you. Our folks should put contents on Cyberspace to protect the legacies of CHIEF AWOLOWO. Where are all the scholars he nurtured?.

CHIEF AWOLOWO KEPT NIGERIA ONE WITH WISE COUNSEL.

  • I wish someone will do a tribute for Papa Awolowo and I thing it is about time that we Yorubas stand up for him from all the useless insults that the Igbos hurl at him and his memory. Even though they benefited from the AWO policies and instead of acknowledging it as such, these ungrateful bastards are telling the whole world rubbish about things that are so unfounded and unjust about AWO. I am so sick and tired of hearing Igbos jumping Awo's memory. They should blame ZIK nad OJUKWU not AWO!

  • @MegaNigerianQueen : I for one, I don't know about others but I NEVER BENEFITED IN ANY WAY FROM EITHER ZIK OR OJUKWU OR ANY IGBO LEADERS IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. So Ndigbos instead of throwing your blames on innocent people and especially on someone who is dead and not defend himself like AWO, blame yourselves and grow up and do the right thing in Nigeria by engaging in honest hard work instead of 419s and kidnappings and frauds that you infected Nigerian with in the name of being "entrepreneural".

  • Thanks for this clip exhibting our great Pa Awolowo who touched the hearts of millions the world over. God bless you for this gesture, Ladi Soyode.

  • When i was watching this video clip i was highly terrified, and overwhelmed, it took me back to think really about our country and what we have missed. sincerely this is one of ur best uploads, its remarkable, keep it up. AWOLOWO O DI GBE RE!!!

  • rest in peace baba awol

  • Awo the great! a man with social conscience mind.

  • This is beautiful. Nice to hear Papa Awo's voice again. Thank you so so much for the post.

  • Well done.

  • amazing footage....AWO THE GREAT!

  • Wow!! you must have dug deep into the archives to find this footage of Pa awo. Thank you so much for this post.

  • @ladisoyode: Many thanks for this. God bless you.

I have no doubt in my mind that AWO is in the best part of heaven. He touched so many lives with his selfless service to our communities. He made a huge difference. We are grateful to Mama HID for giving us a chance to have a piece of Papa Awo! Compared to the so called leaders we now have in Nigerian nowadays who are greedy and selfish and all they are interested in is robbing Nigerians dry and into extinction. God bless AWO & HID!
