WOW! That rollercoaster scene was crazy cold! Rainey Stevens, if you're out there -- we look good in the front with the wind whipping through our jaws!!!!!
Wow...I remember this. I was 18 when this promo ran. Lonnie Lardner and that BIG hair! I saw her at a Jimmy Buffett concert and she was SO tiny but had HUGE hair. Dan will be so missed and never replaced. He and Demetria were in my living room every night for so many years. No matter how tragic the story, you could take it from D&D. They could break your heart with the facts and comfort you with their compassionate tones. AND I MISS OPRYLAND!!!
wow, i'd forgotten about this. hahah, i'm in this commercial, on the rollercoaster. second row, in the sweater. that was so much fun! there was a series of Opryland commercials we filmed for 3 days in 38* F weather. sooo cold but we, of course, had to pretend it was warm. heh. i'd forgotten they used a few snips for the channel 4 ad.
Thanks so much for posting this wonderful footage when we are celebrating Dan Miller's life...he was so awesome and will be missed by many. RIP and God Bless Dan!
which one was Lonnie ? I thought that was Demetria in blue towards the end . What was Lonnies last name ?
Just sick about Dan Miller passing . Truly frrld like family died . I know both Jennifer and Darcy from school and friends , I can't imagine . Horrible
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Miller family and the Channel 4 family. Dan was truly a great man--personally and professionally. He will be missed by all who knew him.
I would guess that this promo aired in the summer of 1982 because the station's call letters were WSMV (changed from WSM-TV in Nov. 1981) and because of the scenes from Opryland. I sure do miss the theme park.
The "Hello Nashville" campaign started in the fall of 1981 and lasted for years, but the newscasts did not use Gari's "Hello News" package until the fall of 1983.
BTW... I have first-hand information that nashvilletv[dot]org will return later this year, probably by end of summer. :-)
interesting, the NMSA says that WSMV didn't use Hello until 1983. If only nashvilletv[dot]org was still up, we'd be able to tell...that guy had some amazingly well done history on these things...
Who sang the jingle? The voice is familiar.

Lonnie Lardner.
Late 70' early 80's.
She is out in California now.
I think she owns a Art Gallery or something along those lines.

For those of us old enough to remember channel
4 pre Kalodimos, when we had Lonnie Lardner! I
would love to see a clip of her final newscast
when she broke down in tears!

I bet it's almost as touching as when Paul Eells broke down on his last night. Never thought that Paul and Dan would both be gone now.....

pre-demetria so it must have been pre-1983, right?

My best guess is 1982.
The station changed from WSM to WSMV late in 1981.
