This is real. I saw it on the History Channel and read about it also. I don't understand how stem-cell research is an abomination and this is not. This is the most horrific advancement mankind has ever made. Mankind isn't ready for this. We pretend we are, but we surely aren't.

@monkeygoodcipherbad1 You realise a "Neural Network" doesn't contain actual neurons from animals right? It's just a different way of programming a system to complete a certain task.

@Dth091 ... actually I saw an article where they took a slice of a rat's brain and put it on a special conductive plate and it learned to control a robot... through pain stimulus of course..

Wow. Every neural network based robot I've seen performs so much better than standard sequential-type programming. Although its sensory perception is very limited, it performs in a much more appropriate manner, such as turning to walk parallel to the walls next to it. This may not be a very complex example, but I really believe there should be more focus on creating robots that are programmed using neurologically-based systems like this one.
