I must add that I was an AVALON parton back then and their live performances were magical..One weekend evening David LaFlamme(sp?) wore a little paper heart pinned to his shirt cuz it was Valentine's day...how wonderful was that!!
I only heard this for the first time in Greece in 82. Still love it , we were on a trip there literally and figuratively the girl i was with passed away but i always think of her when i hear this. Thanx.
Ha to think i'm only 28 years old and I own this LP this is from the 60s when music was good the music today cant even come close to the music of then still one of my favorite jams thanks for posting this....
18 years old, cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway.... smoking... what a life.... I thought I was going to live forever.... what memories you've stirred with this post... Thanks.....
My feelings same as Gypsy12341000. I have both the vinyl (in it's sleeve & framed) & the CD. Remember when the song first came out: I wanted to take off for San Francisco so badly, but was only 13 at the time & too scared to head out on my own. I wanted to fly; felt like a white bird.
Saw them open for Jethro Tull at the Forum in L.A. circa '69 or '70. Was so stoned on acid. Never forget the red headed babe with the violin doing White Bird and Ian Anderson doing his best one-legged crane imitation while playing that flute. Great stuff, great times and glad my memories can never be taken from me. Peace.
I hear ya Sergio! I lived 6 blocks from the ocean in the Sunset. Best time of my life. Garage bands, Jefferson Airplane played freely in GGpark. People would ask if you needed a ride when walking down the street, there was a peaceful, free vibe. Too bad it's gone.
Thanks for sharing your memories, everyone...I was a bit on the young side and had no clue what it was about, but I still have a touch of that white bird in me...Nice to see others do as well *smiles*
Went on a road trip from Indiana to Maine with my best buddy in 1971 and I ended up with a draft lottery number of 334. Felt like me and my buddy were let out of my golden cage. However, his draft number was #1 !!!. When they drafted him he had hemmeroids (or whatever). It was the last draft before they ended it. He didn't have to report. A white bird moment.
I bought this album when home on leave, probably hasn,t been out of the jacket six times since it was new. Transferred it to cd years ago. I wish cd recorders were still being sold I am on the second one and it is getting a bit cantankerous.-----young folks------enjoy this good stuff!
My brother introduced me to this amazing group. Nights like this, this song was one of the many we reviewed, critiqued, enjoyed. He was a treasure like this song.
This was my first 'favorite' song, my big sister was a hippie and she 'turned' me on to this and to.... just pot! It was amazing, I had not heard this song in ages, and last night it popped into my head and youtube let me hear it again. I miss my sister, I do not know where she is anymore or how to find her.... If you are out there Marti, I love you and miss you... we are getting old...
Thank God for You Tube ... let us Hope that the Record Companies (with their Crappy) ("Music" - now-a-days (2011) ... :-( ... NEVER Buy out You Tube ... wers would we get out "fixx" regarding GOOD Music (???)
This song brings back so many memories from the 70's...getting loaded and trippin' out to White Bird! Loved it then and still love it to this day at the age of 61!!
I heard this in Vero Beach Fl. on my first trip there,I was enchanted,so beautiful back in the early 70s.We camped for a month on the beach.Thats impossible now.
I saw them live in Vancouver in 1972 .. they sounded really great which was no mean feat back in those days before the PA systems were as refined as they are now.... David Laflamme played the violin solo awesome.. very trippy band
Saw them Live in Folsom Stadium in Boulder Colorado with Poco, and someone else, looked just like this picture, only the flatirons were in the background, what ever happened to Music `¿`
My older brother had this album and used to yell at me because I couldn't resist singing along when he played it. In retrospect, I'd yell at me, too! Really gorgeous harmony, voices, violins, arranging, everything.
Just closing your eyes, listening to this song, and using your imagination is almost enough to take one back to that era. I was pretty young then but can still remember parts of it. Going to the Bay area with my paretns and seeing all of the long haired young people wearing sandals and leather fringes jackets. I wish I would have been old enough to really experience it. Some of my older firends tell me that it was something phenomenal.
its still a hit with me its so beautiful I will love it till the day i die may it live on forever and evoke the feelings that it does in me to everybody
San Francisco.... driven across the golden gate bridge, summer time, warm and the wind blowing....smoking and listening ITS A BEAUTIFUL DAY with the vvoices white bird simply far out....THOSE WERE THE DAYS
@tiawana1 Right,,,this is my mom's tune right here. It will always remind me of her. Great arrangement, and SO beautifully played and sang. Yes those WERE the days.
They played this at the Seattle Pop festival in 1969.
It sounded just like the album.

From the best album of all time. I was so excited when I heard it in 1969. There was nothing else like it and that's still the case.
