  • Oh Sharda! What a voice! *sigh*

  • Sharda's voice is a unique gift. Anything she sings gives the song such a sublime romantic notion. There can be no greater gift.

  • i have heard sharda songs and always use to think what a voice with so much of innnocence , and imagine i nevr jnew the singer name yesterday i cam to know that name of this great singer is SHARDA , why in INDIA follow one person either it is politics or entertainment, i salute this singer. amt_99_2000@yahoo.com

  • tune stolen from Autumn Leaves Édith Piaf.

  • Even during the radio days, music programs on Radio Ceylon(Srilanka) were more popular than any other Indian Radio station and I always wondered why it was so. Your explanation answers that question as well.

  • @bxj55 - In addition to what I mentioned in above comments, what I understand is that those olden days, India was following the "close economic policy" and broadcasting movie songs been considered as "commercial".

So Indians themselves, started broadcasting those songs [in programmes like Geetmala] from Sri Lanka make using Radio Ceylon, THE Broadcasting Stationin of Sri lanka and much later shifted the whole operation to India.

By that time, we have already been addicted to them. LOL

    Thanks.

  • @bxj55 I THINK IT WAS BENACA GEET MALA AND MORE OVER VERY APEALING VOICE OF AMEEN SAYANI RADIO CEYLON WAS VERY FAMOUS ..I FEEL LIKE THAT IF YOU AGREE OR NOT ITS UPTO YOU THANK YOU

  • @bxj55 I use to listen Radio Ceylon religiously. Even today after five decades, I can vividly remember those olden days and all the old Hindi songs that I have listened during the last fifty years. I can recollect even today the situation and environment under which I have listened any given song. Say, whenever I listen any old song, I immediately recollect those beautiful moments and scenarios under which I was listening the song.

  • no voice like Shard's. it's a shame she wasnt allowed to progress in her career for some unknown reasons!

  • But Yuanji, I am really fascinated by your background. But one question still lingers: How did you manage to understand Hindi films and their sensitivities so well that you have been able to choose the best gems? Further, are HIndi movies so popular in Sri Lanka? Or you are exceptional thanks to your international lineage? Sorry for not being able to resist my curiosity.

  • @chitta64 - No worry my dear friend. I will answer to all your questions briefly.

1, I [majority of Sri Lankans] do not know Hindi/Urdu.

2, Hindi films/songs/artists are very popular in Sri Lanka for generations.

3, I have learned music, Western and Eastern both. So I know the value and "difficulty" of Hindustani music. That I have mentioned in my profile too.

4, We Sri Lankans always go for the melody and melody only, so naturally we pick the best!

Hope you got an idea now.

    Take care.

  • Dear Yuanji, your selection is wonderful, only a little less wonderful than- hold your breath-your screen name. Are you a China lover? Otherwise why would make a mantra of the Chinese currency? Only joking. Never mind. Please keep up your good work of entertaining us. Thanks.

  • @chitta64 - Thank you my dear friend for your kind words. Many friends have asked me about my Chinese user name.

Actually, my late father was from China and mother is a Sri Lankan.

I am now a Sri Lankan citizen and live here in Colombo.

By the way, the word Yuan has many meanings, including [as you too have mentioned] Chinese currency.

    Take care.

  • once again its rafi magic i can say only rafi rafi rafi and once again rafi the greatest ever nice song great music and rafi sahibs superb singing keeping in mind that he was singing for manooj kumar and it sounded like manoj kumar was singing himself that was one of the great qualities of rafi how difficult the ever may be he did more than justice to it and always sung in the voice of the actor who ever it might be

  • Davidinfo, you are so right. And title song "Gumnaam hai koi" is taken from Henry Mancini's "When played out charade". Sharda was one of the causes of disputes between Shankar and Jaikishan. See, Shankar had a thing going on with Sharda on the side. So, he wanted her to sing female songs instead of Lata. :-)

  • A romantic and sweet song.

  • Rafi and Sharda at their super best with Shankar Jaikishan.Sharda jis voice has all the innocence

  • rafi sahib & sharda with their magic, so is the highly talented duo shanker jaikishen. very melodious song. sharda was very good singer but unluckily she bore the brunt of monoply. only S J dared her play back despite sm differences. even then what ever she sang is always memorable. thanx 4 such nice upload.

  • You are most welcome, my friend.

  • @yuanyuanyuanyin Dear Yuanji, your selection is wonderful, only a little less wonderful than- hold your breath-your screen name. Are you a China lover? Otherwise why would make a mantra of the Chinese currency? Only joking. Never mind. Please keep up your good work of entertaining us. Thanks.

  • You are most welcome, my friend.

  • kind of sounds like the tune 'autumn leaves'

  • Thanks for the "short" but beautiful comment!

  • yw..the french version of the tune is "Les Feuilles Mortes"- Yves Montand. Thank you for the song

  • OMG, I just watched "Yves Montand - Les Feuilles Mortes". Yes, very much similar and I wonder how you came to know this!

    Thanks for the important information.

I am sorry, I could not properly understand your initial comment.

  • Yes the tune is originally french, but then it was used in English too- 'Autumn leaves' by Nat King Cole.

I try to listen to different kinds of music whenever I get the chance, which is why i've subscribed to your channel ;)

  • You are most welcome, my friend.

  • Beautiful song.
