Unreal! This day was epic. I am the guerilla stanced sucker in the white rash guard in 2 shots during the first 8 minutes. What a day. Saw the cameras, but can't believe it's posted.... Good work! 7 years later and here it is. Tripping...............

@biwon Yup,It's makable but super fast,as far as the burning thing goes it only does this once a decade so all the boyz froth soo hard to get one it gets pretty fu*ked out there.I scored it all 3 days of this swell & it didn't really matter who you were,regardless you were getting BURNED.Out of almost 100 people in the water there was maybe 5 guys that no one would burn.I fortunately got a mental one just as the sun was rising when there was only 5 or so guys in the water.

@c4t2f0 this wave is crazy been there on a 8ft day, so scary. it breaks good on a huge south west swell. doesnt break big every year but theres some good swells that make this place insane

The first time I ever sponged an overhead wave was here on a 12 foot south day. My first wave paddling out I got a 400+ yard barrel ride and survived. I think that may be what they call beginners luck ;-)

@hempert420 It breaks a few times a year and you can get a barrel but it only really FREIGHT TRAINS once a decade,it's gotta be HIGH SURF WARNING to be taken seriously,or at least serious enough for me to wake up at 4-5A.M. and drive out from Hana to try to score a good 1 while the sun is rising without getting burned.By the time the sun has risen the boyz are soo set on getting a nutz 1,it doesn't matter who you are,your getting burned.If you plan on getting 1 you have to be aggressive.

first time I saw Maalaea, was in 1968, and it was about this size. Incredibly fast wave. Owl Chapman was out that day, catching these super fast waves!

This place is a great wave, and the actual power of the wave isn't too heavy. It's not like backdoor or anything. Nonetheless, the reef is unforgiving. Ate it out there on a 4 footer and got my knee shoved into the reef. Left the water with a chunk out of my knee and I still got a fatty scar. That older guy that rides the long board seems to be the alpha male out there-he gets all the gems and rides the barrel pretty good for someone his age.Mucho drop-ins.
