South Africa had a world-class health system during Apartheid because it was only for the WHITES! The facilities for blacks were basically places for them to die. Now, after Apartheid, The resources that once kept whites in luxury are now spread thin trying to serve all persons, and here is the result. You can't convince me that that place is worse now than back then. No government in SA ever cared about its citizens, only those it placed in its favour.Discrimination kills.

I had the fortune to travel this otherwise beautiful country back in 1997 and drive through South Africa. I also visited a hospital managed by a German director (cannot recall the name, but was not faw away from Umtata). For me, everything seemed normal (yes, especially comparing to Hungarian health care at that time). But now I am very shocked on the conditions... I feel sorry for all health care workers who try to do the best.

I used to work at Johannesburg hospital 15 years ago and it's heartbreaking to see what has happened to it. No wonder we all left the country! It became clear that the government, the ANC, was unwilling to invest in the health of the nation and there you have it. From an exceptional health care system all those years ago, we now have a shambles of a system!

On another youtube video, there were lots of people in the squatter (?) camps, wanting work, some looking every day & have been unemployed for years. Can't some of these folks get some training as nurses' aides, at least to help keep patients clean and comfortable? Can't some of the young men earn meals or some pay, fixing up the sinks, killing the bugs, etc.? Why not utilize these people who seem to want to work, even if for little pay or food? It's better than nothing & they will be working.

Apart from gross mismanagement, there is a huge amount of political corruption. My father worked with both the old & new Governments in SA for a number of years, specifically in the Health System. And since the ANC took over, most state funds have been sapped dry by Politicians lining their own pockets. To ensure that my father got contracts to work within the Health System, he was told to give 50% of his profits to the ANC, and to buy the Decision Maker a new Merc! That happened more than once.

Shocking-I lived in SA for 20 years during the 80's &90's and yes we did have separate hospitals for whites and blacks but they were all a damn sight better than this. I had an accident in 2003 in South Africa ,I was staying there at the time i broke my leg badly ,anyways i spent 2mnths in a slum of a hospital over there where the Drs and the nurse didnt give a toss about the patients if you asked for pain meds you were told to wait and if you did get something it was Ibuprofen which with the badly broken leg i had had no effect on the pain.Ill tell why its so fucked up because the Kaffirs have got there thieving hands on the money that is to make people well

She said she sometimes has to wait for days before she sees anyone (a gross exaggeration I'm sure). You see in the past, whites were given the best treatment (even separate facilities) at hospitals. They find it demeaning now that they have to wait in line like everyone the poor dears.
