So wait. if i upgrade to this modem i will get faster upload and download speeds? my cable provider dose support DOCSIS 3.0 but im not paying for the newer speeds.

@thelasthallow No. Just buying the modem wont give you faster speeds. You'll still need to upgrade your speed through your provider. A Docsis 3 modem is just able to handle the high-end speeds by supporting channel bonding (I believe Docsis 2.0 maxes out at around 40Mbps) I'd still recommend you get a Docsis 3 modem to future-proof your connection even if you dont have the faster speeds (and you can also stop the leasing fees if youre paying any)

@bowtie728 by bonding 4 channels down 150mbps-ish, which is the maximum this cable modem can do. a WCM300 has 8 channels and can hit ~300mbps down (37.5MB per second), but you'd need to have gigabit ethernet throughout your network to appreciate this, or at least better than 100baseT which most people don't yet have.

this modem is HORRIBLE. NEVER WORKS when you have movies downloading it PARALYZES browsers. On my old sb5120, I could download 10 movies at the same time and sitll browse the internet at 20mbps. This piece of crap breaks down at 2 movies downloading, browsing at 5mbps. Something is wrong with it. And the gateway modem is even worse. BOOOOO motorola blows.

I love this, Please I need Help on my new Motorola SBG6580, is not connecting to the Internet, the green receive light is blinking, it's saying can not ping internet server, even after using the CD that came with it, I'm using Multi TV on Astra 2B,C,D at 28.2"E and HiTV on Eutelsat W4 at 36.0°E west Africa, please I need help. I have Cox in san diego and we only have premier speeds as the fastest right now. They say we should have ultimate speed by early 2010 and I dot know how much it will be.

Premier in san diego is like 54 for internet alone, not high def channels and all that.

Las Vegas went docsis 3 , oct -09. They consistently get 50/10

You can get this modem and it will probably work fine with Cox (check with cable provider) but to take advantage of the faster speeds they provider must have Docsis 3.0 service.

you would have to get the plan to get the speed higher than 12mb. If you still have the 12mb with this modem you will get the same speed as you had before.
