I was with the 3/505 with the 82nd. I was with the 101st in Vietnam. I have that Eagle on my right shoulder. My friend is a grad of Sandhurst, with Monty shaking his hand. He was 22SAS, etc. But as old men, we do have our wings.

ruthernglen2. Are you having a laugh? The RAF Regiment are security gaurds. They only defend air bases. The reason guys join them is because they couldnt handle the real infantry. The fighting infantry. Get a grip you plum. Incedentally the Scots battalions, namely the RHF are the best. Get it up ye!
rutherglen2 wot ya on bout lol. there are more ex paras n the sas than from any other corps or regiment. why talk bout things you dont know about haha
The British paras have won my respect after everything I've read about Arnhem and Market Garden in general. A body of fighting men who built such tradition on the battlefield is bound by honor and duty to upkeep it, thus they remain elite. Not that the paras owe everything to Arnhem; but I'm sure they recall it when they want to muster their best.
Para's are tough. The Royal Marines are hard but let me tell you gents the RAF REGIMENT is the best trained, hardest fighting unit in the British Forces. Why u think so many end up in the SAS. Much love
the military is in my heart but i dont wanna fight for a wrong cause, i was going to join paras with full passion but i cant go and kill people 4 money and oil and kill innocents, no disrespect 4 our soldiers intentional, but i feel i will have to train and join soon, otherwise i feel im going to regret it fully, even if i just do 4 years
i dropped outta the idea of the army when i was 17 n a half (ish) i done alot of training and working up to it i was so fit n ready then changed my mind due to what the fight out there was actually 4 im now (even tho i still dont agree with the war) contemplating goin 4 paras again, i have a gf who i love and wanna have a family with but there something about the army that makes me feel alive n i love it, what would you do in my position? any replys welcome.
You can only make your own choices mate, afterall its your life and my reason was that if i dont join up now ill regret it for the rest of my life but like i say you have to decide for yourself. good luck

Is it true that a Royal Marine can become a paratrooper? i.e. remain in the RM however learn the specalised skill. I only ask this as i have seen Royal Marines with the parachute symbol (the parachute and two wings) on the side of their uniform, below Royal Marines Commando patch.
Yes it is true that marines can get their wings. They apply for the course.
They don't earn it like the paras though. That's why the paras go through p-company. I'm a potential para and my best mate is a potential marine commando and starts his training in a month. That's how i know.
Yes its called the All Arms course and its held at ITC catterick. A marine would do similar tests to P Company but not as physically tough as the normal para course.
Unlike some NATO armies that are full of hubris, the British Army particularly their Paras are known to THINK about what they are doing based on objective reality; this is why they figured out how to jump at 250 feet mass tac while we can only jump at 500 feet and break terrain mask.
paras thinking mans infantry the smartest of the dumb ones to jump out of a perfectly good airoplane lol jk but takes some balls and i wudent fuk wid em their lids are reckognisable to anyone am joinin the rlc on the 27th of oct cant wait

@ditdatdot what made you leave the paras and join the marines? because i dont know what one to join, i am in the selection process for the marines but i like the paras aswell, anything that makes the marines more elite than the paras?
WERE is the problem; the German Airborne today are excellent with their Wiesel light tracked tank/APCs; what we are trying to do in our videos is highlight the best practices in ALL forces, even the enemy--so we can smother wars and learn to do greater things together in peace like space exploration etc.
the para insight course is brilliant gives u a good insight to wht the training will be like you do all differnt stuff like log race /assault course /1.5mile run etc ..and they show you the kit the regiment uses ..like the sa80 the 50cal etc..nd the kit wht u use when jumpin out of the plane =p
