No unfortunately they aren't available as a kit or any type of vinyl sticker package. The stripes are painted underneath the clearcoat, they were done when we painted the car black. This way they won't fade with time and you can't feel a lip on the paint. Check forum.gbsb.info under Build Pics to see it in progress. The thread title is Al's '00 Camaro Z28. This car has changed a lot since this video. Thanks for the compliment!
Little Update: New mod installed! Added a Precision Industries Vigilante 3400 Stall. New track times soon to come. Also hoping to get a set of PRC 2.5's installed by mid summer! Say goodbye to the stock 10 bolt!
Your car definitely didn't have 360rwhp before that cam. I've got a T/A with a complete ls6, lid, longtube headers, no cats, x-pipe, dynomax race mufflers that dumps underneath the back seats, plus a tune. With all of that using an auto transmission I made 360rwhp at sea level. Your looking at about 300rwhp before your cam work
You are correct, I have corrected the video notation. For some reason I had my cam RWHP listed. It's in the 360-370ish range with all my current mod's. Usually runs 12.7-12.9@109-110.5 at 3K ft D/A.
The day I ran 12.9@108 was a miracle D/A day for us, it was 1400ft corrected. I had only a cutout, tune and lid.
It's getting strapped to the rollers next month so I can tweak the tune, and get a good RWHP number finally!
3.23's were optional depending on the OE tire/wheel package. My car was unfortunate enough to get the 2.73's. I have since changed them out to the 3.23's with the addition of my 18" 'Vette wheels.
The only LS1 F-Bodies that ever had the 2.73 rearend were state troopers because they drove at higher speeds where the gearing was useful. That was the 1LE package, which also included suspension upgrades. You might have one of the few cars that had that package. Also the Formula Firebirds were 2.73 gearing. I have 18" Z06 replica rims too. Mine are dark gray with fake rivets and a polished lip.
Actually, 2.73's were standard and 3.23's were available as an option depending on year/model of F-Body. My '98 Z28 came with 2.73's from the factory and it WAS NOT a police car. The RPO code for police cars was B4C, not 1LE as you implied.
Sorry, you're right about the code name, but as far as the 4th gen f-bodies goes, the only cars that had 2.73's were V6 and Formula Firebirds. The Trans Am/Z28's had 3.23's, unless they had the T56 (six-speed transmission) or the WS6/SS package, which included 3.42's. The only reason the Formula had 2.73's is because it's a V6 Firebird with a V8 engine. I'm not aware of any factory Camaro's that replicated the Formula, but if there is one, you might have it.
Incorrect! Go to any F-Body forum or dealership and look up the information for yourself. The RPO codes are: GU2 = 2.73, GU5 = 3.23, GU6 = 3.42. My Z28's RPO code for the gears is GU2. MANY Camaro's came from the factory with 2.73 gears. Mine is not special in any way. I think you've been given misleading information somewhere along the way.
Then, like I said before, your Camaro is the equivalent of a Formula Firebird; V6 car with a V8 engine. As far as Firebirds go, if it was a Trans Am, it had 3.23's or 3.42's. Formulas came with 2.73's.
Whatever man. Keep believing what you wanna believe. Saying that these cars have 2.73's because they're a "V6 car with a V8 engine" is crazy talk. That's as crazy as your previous statement that "the only LS1 F-Bodies that ever had the 2.73 rearend were state troopers because they drove at higher speeds where the gearing was useful." LOL B4C Camaro's came with 3.23 gears as the only option.
Not sure on the police thing, the RPO code on my car doesn't indicate a police package. It was also my understanding that 2.73's were standard on all Fbodies unless the car was an SS/WS6/Firehawk. This left the 3.23's as an option and the M6 guys had no option with 3.42's. As far being a V6 car, I could see that. Ford did the same thing with their Mustangs in the 80's and early 90's with the LX version. Straight up V6 car with a GT powertrain.
Although if this truly is the case I wouldn't consider it a V6 car with a V8 powertrain unless it was a cloth interiored no option car. Which are out there, fortunately I opted to get one that was Loaded with Leather and all the options less the SS package.
so you get 19 mpgs in the city with a 5.7? Im oping between a 3.8l v6 which gets 20 to 21 mpgs and with ur v8 your telling me you get 19well then damn, im going for the v8, sounds better right? haha much needed info thanx bro
Lol, i didn't believe it either till I checked it again! Got this car about 4hrs from where I live, drove it back, got 26 MPG on the highway. and around 19 in town with my current tune. I was shocked, the LS1 cars are just all around a good package.
Yeah, the LS1 gets incredible gas mileage, considering its size. The LS1 is a 346 cu in engine, and gets 26-27 highway. The LS7 in the new Z06 Corvette is a 427 cu in engine, and it's rated at 26 mpg highway, which eliminates the gas guzzler tax whenever someone buys one. It's the only car in it's genre that is exempt from that tax. GM didn't play around when they built the LS# engines. Torque, HP, and MPG...
Click the MORE INFO tab at the top of this page. I meant it has that HP with all the mods listed. Stock numbers with the cutout only puts it around 295-300 RWHP. U do the math, 3620 lbs with driver, 102 MPH in the 1/4 mile. no denying physics.
Nice run. Not too shabby for 2.73's. :) I went from 3.23's to 2.73's after messing up 3.23 rear in an accident. It hooks so much better at the track now. 60' times went from 2.1's to 1.8's. Plus, like you mentioned, the fuel mileage. ;)
I agree. I have a couple of friends that have F-bodies that race with me. One has 3.23's? and the other 3.73's. Both are about .2-.4 faster 1/4 mile. We all have pretty much the same mod's. They usually pull me till around 55-60 MPH, then it evens out. Usually a car to two carlentghs 1/4. I won't change my gear for the single reason that I can hook without slicks, and it dead hooks on the street too. That run was at 3800ft D/A, usually runs 12.9-13.1@106-109MPH
I would, but then it's a peelfeast on the street, and i'd need slicks to run at the track. Also, since these cars have a 7.5" rear, the teeth are smaller on a 3..73 gear, so it also makes the rear weaker.
But ya, it would definately help! It's also nice to keep the fuel mileage from 2.73's.
nice stripes want to get them for my 02 z28 did they come with the car

I have another question. Why is your rearend 2.73? That's what the V6 has. You should be running 3.23 (automatic) or 3.42 (Manual and WS6 package)
Vipervenomsrt 2 years ago

The video is with the cutout lid on. It's wayyy louder with it off, but sounds kinda dirty since I don't have headers, still stock manifolds.
