The resemblance between the mice in this cartoon and Mickey and Minnie is staggering. The Van Beuren Studio got in a bit of trouble with Walt Disney over that...and the case actually went to court. Disney won the case. After this, Disney made sure that no one ever made a Mickey-and-Minnie clone.

This is a Van Beuren cartoon called "Circus Capers" (09/28/1930), and it's quite entertaining one, despite some crudeness in drawings and animation. The main characters are Mickey and Minnie... I beg your pardon, Milton and Rita Mouse, the heroes of many Van Beuren cartoons from the early 1930s. Their resemblance to the more famous mouse couple was so strong that Walt Disney sued Van Beuren studios.

I think this is a Van Buren Cartoon. A lot of studios wanted to get in on the huge popularity of Mickey Mouse, so they did copy-cat type cartoons. I think Disney sued Van Buren Co. to keep them from reproducing the Mickey style.

They had an urban setting and always really had an edge to them,

this was great! I dont think anyone should give a dime to the circus today because animals are being abused and its disgusting how they are treated but there was a time when it was not about animals and performers did the tricks and it was captivating and creative (:
