fisrtly. it is pretty easy to make a drift in one of those cars(depends on the cars set up)even if it has much downforce it is pretty easy to drift...those cars are very very light, secondly he hasn't done it on purpose....that white red thing(i dont know how it is callled in english)made the car jump...you can see that very very big bump in the middle of the corner. whne the car landed, it hasn't got any grip, so he pushed the throttle but very very weakly to don't spin off...
@sajtosfene Easy to drift? When the cars go sideways they loose downforce and in most cases, even when drivers try to correct it they just spin out. In a F1 car it happens so quickly, and because they have so much grip when the rear end starts to really let go it is just gone. They slide a little bit here and there, but it is so little that the aerodynamics aren't affected that much, so they can keep it under control.
@sajtosfene to loose grip on the rear end is not drifting. Drifting is holding that slide, which is the hard part. Everyone can get the back end out on a car, but only a few can hold the slide.
It is really impressive with all the aerodynamics features that makes the car stick to the ground and when it slides just a little bit the tendency is to spun completely due to loss of downforce since the air is not flowing in the correct direction in the wings!
@djdanielzago when used to a car actions like this will become regular for some ppl .it looks cool but it's not special I f.e. catch things that tumble down with a almost 100% scoreLast weeki a guy was in the same train as I w 2 bikes. when 1 bike fell I got up & caught it while others didnt even think of it. Am I special? No it's a failure in my brain. It doesnt filter stimuli. causes eye-hand skills. It blocks every concentration so I notice all stimuli around me.My headphone is a blessing.
@djdanielzago Close. But with the front wing creating so much downforce, and the rear wing creating so litte, it causes an inbalance, which produces a lot of oversteer, like this. The aid between the air intake and the rear wing (It has a name. I think Red Bull were the first ones to use it) acts as a rudder, designed to put lateral load in the opposite direction, and straighten the car out in the event of a slide. Basically, the rear of the car wants to straighten out in the direction of travel
@JDeguara What you may be referring to is the "shark fin" that was on top of the engine cover. That really only served two purposes. 1-Keep the airflow from the engine cover to the rear wing as clean as possible. 2-carry the piping for the F-duct. It would produce some lateral load in a slide, but not nearly enough to correct it. On LMP1 cars a similar fin is now mandated but I believe it's purpose is to avoid having cars go airborne during spins due to the body acting as an airfoil.
