I remember at first I loved this song until I found out it was Johnny Mathis (I was young then)!. However, after a brief period of reflection I decided that a good song was a good song no matter who sings it, and bought it that same day. Still like it - I'd cover it on gigs if I could get a backing track.
Takes me back to my final year in secondary school which would have been around '79, I can remember being very sad and scared but of course I would never show it outwardly, I just put on this big front like many that I didn't care and wasn't afraid of going out there into the big wide world etc, there were loads of great songs back then and this was sure one of them, I suppose in many ways I can enjoy it much more now as a calm relaxed ....ish adult :D
Ronny "L" use to drop this down 100 club back in the "70"s on Oxford Street ....on a saturday at lunch time.........we would go and bust some moves....come out sweating like pigs at about 3 O clock onto a busy Oxford street full of shoppers...then head down to carnaby street.........go home have a bath ...listen to greg edwards and get ready to go to the Royalty in Southgate to check out "the Family"....Chris Hill "et al" on Froggys roadshow.......!!!!....yeah....Soulboys are back...!!!
I have this disco single and "Begin the Beguine," and I loved it in 1979 and still do! My teenage children thought I had flipped out! Johnny and I were only 44 years old, then. Singing and dancing to music like this probably helped us make it to 74.
Such a fun and from Johonny Mathis of all people. I totally agree this song was a guaranteed floor filler! :) thanks for posting.
