  • i'll always remember her as the voice of WGN in the 80's. RIP

  • @msmithstud RIP??? She's not dead.

  • @ClassicLoverA my mistake. I thought she died years back. In 1971 she was kidnapped and shot twice in the head but managed to survive.

  • Wonderful lady who I admired so much when I was growing up in Chicago in the 70s and 80s. I had no idea about her horrific ordeal while at Channel 44. I am so thankful she survived to bring her amazing abilities as a spokeswoman and humanitarian to us all. I hope she is having an amazing, fulfilled retirement!

  • SHE IS SO SEXY I WISH SHE WAS MINE

  • Merri Dee is such an inspiration to not only Chicago, but also throughout the Chicago Community as well as throughout the country

I'm glad that she had overcome her demons and abuse growing up

Whenever I watch WGN during the 80's and I watch those commercials and movie titles, I would always hear her smooth sexy voice and I agree when someone said that her voice is like velvet

She's like the Female Casey Kasem

God Bless You Merri Dee, Thank You so much for all you've done

    Love Ya

  • i'll never forget this woman's voice. It's almost as recognizable as Ernie Anderson who did promos for ABC in the 70's and 80's.

  • hey micah nice pedicure

  • @winfir0 I missed it......guess I'll watch it again and be on the lookout.

  • I just found out about this remarkable woman ONLY because i happened to be doing research on Della Reese and found an article mentioning their close brushes with death and how Merri Dee had been abducted and shot. That monster should have never gotten out of prison! It makes me mad. 25 years? What a joke. I am glad she survived and went on to have a remarkable career despite her tragedy and recovery.

  • Merri Dee was a big part of WGN-TV, just like The Bozo Show, Garfield Goose, and The Ray Rayner Show. Merri's story of being abused as a child, being a single mom after a stormy marriage, starting a broadcasting career, being shot and left for dead, her amazing recovery, and humanitarian work would make a great movie. Like Bozo, Garfield, and Ray, another part of Chicago's TV history has rode off into the sunset. Happy retirement, Merri, and good luck in the future.

  • I love Merri Dee I met her at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship dinner and asked her to speak at my graudation and she accepted... the graduates of Von Steuben Class of 2009 loves you Ms. Dee!!!!

  • HA! i just met her today! eat it!!!

  • Merri Dee was Channel 9's best in-house voice over they'd ever had.

  • Love hearing here voice and she still beautiful, making me home sick. Thanks

  • How can ANYBODY not remember that voice!!! She was THE voice of WGN TV!!!!

  • I remember hearing that story as a child in the seventies. I think I heard my dad talk about it with my mom.

I am also one of the many people who has to say that I love and respect her as a family memeber who always keeps the importance of family and looking out for one anothers well being in front. She will always be a Chicago Hometown hero!

Thank you Mary Dee and thank you WGN for the gift that you bring to us everyday!

  • LONG LIVE MERRI DEE!!!

  • I've grew up watching her,

    Merri Dee is a legend.
