not only is it mind blowing this song didnt make the album...i feel like this would have made a successful single. no idea what management was thinking. they left half-ass songs like mix it up and daisy cutter on the album, yet left this off. imo this is the best song theyve put out post-soundsystem.
I just doesn't make sense why they would leave this off the album. It's by far one of the best songs they have written in years and they just 86'd it? It shows the level of disconnect they have right now from their roots
@drewsky684 Agreed, this song is way too good to be left aside! At least it has been published somehow! ... But still: What were they thinking, haha? :)

This song screams summer, maybe its just because I listened to it a ton during 2010's summer. Staying up until 1 or 2 AM, listening to this, hanging with friends.
Then getting up in the morning, and doing it all over again.

I saw them play this on Halloween, it was too great! You can hear every album in just about all their shit, they're too great. Has any one band ever showed so much dedication to their fans and put out so fucking much amazing music? Everyone knows, 311 is the best band on the planet, probably in this arm of our galaxy. I've been on em since Soundsystem and I'm addicted for life.

They played this shit live for the first time @ 311day!

i think we can agree that 311 hasnt created an album since evolver that exemplified the true 311 sound. not saying that dtom and uplifter are bad, but compare them to music or transistor.. rapping and rocking was their roots and where they thrived coming up as a band, i think they play too much now to please the "new era" of music, i feel like they feel like they have to sing more than they really do, i would love nothing more than for a new 311 album that was as raw as blue album..
@haloMountAnd311 i agree to an extent but i did not like evolver as a album but it does have some cool songs. i think uplifter is a great album, lots of rapping....which was a pleasant surprise
they have never had one specific sound because each song is different. im not trying to be insulting but you sound like each person that has had a favorite band for a while and when their new stuff comes out you dont like it because this terrific music didnt just randomly hit your skull like the first song you ever heard. this had been expected by you and now that its here your not as thrilled because you knew it was on its way. kind of like knowing an xmas gift before you actually get it.
@nitehawk32 He's completely true.. I only knew the song "Hey You" by this band before listening to the rest of their music, well this album mostly. I didn't know what to think of it at first, but it really is good music.
chops are sick on blue... and evolver is def the best of the last 3 with tran being the high water mark. but this particular song is the best thing they have done since track one in 2005.
Ok, why in the hell did this song and "How Long Has It Been" not make the album. IMO Hey You could've been replaced with either. But other than that, this album rocked! Thanks 311
hey man.... 311 is still a kick ass band dont get me wrong, but im just not diggin this album.. not one of my favorites.. thats all im tryin to say.. sorry about bein so harsh
That i will agree to. As far as Uplifter being better than DTOM, i don't know if i could say the same. Just to be safe, i am not defending Tred. However, uplifter is a change of pace of what 311 is known for, but that'll happen to any band. I think the flow of lyrics were smoother on Tred, at least for what i am used to. 311 has earned the right to play whatever they want, I'll still listen to it, but when it comes to deciding which of their albums to listen to, this'll prob be my last choice.
Because even though they're my favorite band, I still have the right to be opinionated about thier music. That's my right as a fan; not to blindly say that all the songs/albums they produce are amazing, that's just rediculous and that is not who i am. I personally don't like the new album as a whole. I became a fan in the early 90's so that's the style of thiers I've become accustomed to. That said, there are a few tracks that are good on the new album that I do like, but not all. Long live 311
After about 10 listens, I can safely say that Uplifter is better than DOTM. As to overall quality, yeah, pinto... but then you have this song, There's Always an Excuse, Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm, How Do You Feel. They can DO it, but I feel like there are a lot of record pressures now. And yeah, from Soundsystem on, the energy is really despairing i.e. Seal the Deal, Eons, Can't Fade Me, Time is Precious. 311 had anidentity crisis after '99. RHCP adjusted to their age, i hope 311 can do it.
I think, more than anything, they are leaving a very played-out "rap-rock" scene that they helped create and subsequent bands (i.e. Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, etc.) helped bury. It's one thing when you're 24 and throwin' out rhymes about 'shrooms and pot, quite another when you're pushing 40. 311 would have sounded VERY forced (and just trying to rehash) if they stuck to the incredibly popular rap-rock thing they did in the past. I personally think Uplifter is a great comeback.
I'll agree with that. However, the fact that they've produced a meriad of other albums that don't have the energy that came with the likes of Music and Grassroots and Blue (i.e Evolver, From Chaos, Sound System), and a huge amount of tracks on even those heavier albums that don't have the same amped nature as others (most tracks on Transistor).
I honestly think it's just getting difficult for them to produce the same as they did in the past. It is most definitley a time where it is difficult to come up with anything original. However, their creativity is still strong, but this album is not demonstritive of what they can do. Case-in-point is this song and the two bonus tracks at the end of their greatest hits disc. I expected better from this album, but what can you do.
You are all idiots!! 311 is a ever evolving band. that's what makes them so unique. That's what brings people in to there sound, the fact that they sound like no one else. UPLIFTER WAS INCREDIBLE!!
absolutely. I love them and the music but I wish they would quit making love songs and bring back some of the old rocknroll they had. Just my opinion.
311 is for everyone, but I find the majority of fans are in their 20's, usually later 20's. I'm 27 and 311's "blue" album - which first took them into mainstream success - was released when I was 13.
your dead on here. im only 20, but id say the majority of there true fanbase is the 25-30 crowd. like you said, 311 reached there mainstream peak from around 1996-1999, so you have to put it in perspective. theyve still managed to grow a huge teen following over the years..mostly from there live shows...and amber and love song haha.
I went to college in the late 1990's, and you have no idea just how big they hit during that time period (along with RATM). They were everywhere! Unfortunately, many followers tried to replicate their sound and killed the scene as a whole. Besides, the boys grew up, you know? I haven't been to a show lately, but I doubt they can replicate the massive energy swell their crowds had back in the 90's. Still stoked that their around (and respected) , though. Says a lot about them
Couldn't agree with you more on this one. I was actually thinking about this recently. I am 28, first heard "Down" when I was 15 years old (Sophomore year - September/October 1996 - even though the album had been out for a while by then). I was at work the other day listening to "Uplifter" on my iPod when a 19-year-old co-worker asked me who I was listening to. Upon saying "311," I was greeted with a blank stare. "I have no idea who that is." The whole thing made me kind of proud.
depending where you are and what time it is...all depends...ive seen them with mostly adults...mostly kids...different shows...times...locations...draws diff kinds of crowds...been going to their shows for past 15 years...i know.
Just heard this today, wtf why wasn't it on deluxe version. Makes you hope for an all unreleased album. Great song, Best Band. Live show # 9 this fall go if you haven't!
whoever said tht 311 is not a teenage band is so wrong...311 is for everyone becuase they have such a unique and diverse music style that no matter what genre u are looking for 311 has wrote at least one song on it and they play the song rele fucking good
the problem with 311 is that they are so diverse and therefore create different kinds of fans. i mean the hardcore ones will love it all mostly, but theres people that only like the softer stuff... then theres ones that only like the earlier heavy stuff. theres hardly anyone in between :/
i for one love just about everything theyve done. DTOM is the sore thumb of their catalogue but everything else is great (esp. Uplifter).
This is my favorite song from Uplifter! I can't believe they didn't even include it on the deluxe edition! Amazon, touche. Just check out the beautiful lyrics as you listen: Running the ship on an ego Shutting the mind and closed out People would ask where did he go As the boat sunk down Lyin' to yourself it's so tragic You become a wreck in slow mo Breaking it down 'til you're all alone I'm in the center of a labyrinth I feel lost I feel imprisoned Tell me there's an end I need some oxygen...
I consider myself to be a very educated and dedicated fan of 311, and I did not have any idea who they were until my sophomore year of high school when "Down" was ripping up the charts. If you knew about them before that time, it does not make you a "bigger" fan, but rather a "luckier" fan.
Let's give it up. They've been doing this for 19 years now, and not once has this band disappointed me. As fans we should be grateful.
This song rocks my socks! good music, good liyrics, That solo near the end just tops it off!

incubus' last album is so great. Nor can you compare the two. They just happened to be our favorite two bands when we were a little younger.

likuidx 2 years ago
On the plus side, they will NEVER EVER be as horrible and whiny as Incubus has become- at least 311 is still recognizable as 311.
spadesb 2 years ago 2
That i will agree to. As far as Uplifter being better than DTOM, i don't know if i could say the same. Just to be safe, i am not defending Tred. However, uplifter is a change of pace of what 311 is known for, but that'll happen to any band. I think the flow of lyrics were smoother on Tred, at least for what i am used to. 311 has earned the right to play whatever they want, I'll still listen to it, but when it comes to deciding which of their albums to listen to, this'll prob be my last choice.
pinto311 2 years ago
Dude, how could you even think about comparing ANY 311 CD? Everyone of their songs, albums, everything is just pure amazing.
skychester 2 years ago 3
Because even though they're my favorite band, I still have the right to be opinionated about thier music. That's my right as a fan; not to blindly say that all the songs/albums they produce are amazing, that's just rediculous and that is not who i am. I personally don't like the new album as a whole. I became a fan in the early 90's so that's the style of thiers I've become accustomed to. That said, there are a few tracks that are good on the new album that I do like, but not all. Long live 311
pinto311 2 years ago
True, I can understand where your coming from because I didnt hear about them until a few years ago so i can definately understand what your sayin
skychester 2 years ago
After about 10 listens, I can safely say that Uplifter is better than DOTM. As to overall quality, yeah, pinto... but then you have this song, There's Always an Excuse, Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm, How Do You Feel. They can DO it, but I feel like there are a lot of record pressures now. And yeah, from Soundsystem on, the energy is really despairing i.e. Seal the Deal, Eons, Can't Fade Me, Time is Precious. 311 had anidentity crisis after '99. RHCP adjusted to their age, i hope 311 can do it.

Oh, and Get Down is another undeniably good song.

fiestahat311 2 years ago
311 will never do another blue or transistor album. they are moving towards arena rock. its still dam good. they are a very under rated band.
chicagoelectricbicyc 2 years ago
I think, more than anything, they are leaving a very played-out "rap-rock" scene that they helped create and subsequent bands (i.e. Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, etc.) helped bury. It's one thing when you're 24 and throwin' out rhymes about 'shrooms and pot, quite another when you're pushing 40. 311 would have sounded VERY forced (and just trying to rehash) if they stuck to the incredibly popular rap-rock thing they did in the past. I personally think Uplifter is a great comeback.
TreyMeans3 2 years ago 2
you nailed it.
drewsky684 2 years ago
I'll agree with that. However, the fact that they've produced a meriad of other albums that don't have the energy that came with the likes of Music and Grassroots and Blue (i.e Evolver, From Chaos, Sound System), and a huge amount of tracks on even those heavier albums that don't have the same amped nature as others (most tracks on Transistor).
pinto311 2 years ago
I honestly think it's just getting difficult for them to produce the same as they did in the past. It is most definitley a time where it is difficult to come up with anything original. However, their creativity is still strong, but this album is not demonstritive of what they can do. Case-in-point is this song and the two bonus tracks at the end of their greatest hits disc. I expected better from this album, but what can you do.
pinto311 2 years ago
Bye the way 311 has been making love songs since the beginning. Do you not remember "Slinky Girl"?
coraz311 2 years ago
You are all idiots!! 311 is a ever evolving band. that's what makes them so unique. That's what brings people in to there sound, the fact that they sound like no one else. UPLIFTER WAS INCREDIBLE!!
coraz311 2 years ago
for there next album they should go back to the blue album era and more stuff like from transistor :) that would be sick
iliveinpinckney 2 years ago 2
this album in my opinion is not as good as the old shit but i still like it. jackpot and something out of nothing were amazing live

im a big 311 fan....but does anyone think uplifter was a little dissapointing.
MrNegrodamos 2 years ago 4
absolutely. I love them and the music but I wish they would quit making love songs and bring back some of the old rocknroll they had. Just my opinion.
MrJamwellman 2 years ago
yes this song is classic 311. The album uplifter is awsome but the track listing is terrible.
I would have started with never ending summer as track one and this one right after as track two.
chicagoelectricbicyc 2 years ago
" it might have been the best song on the whole album."
WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!! this song is fking great!!!! ..... i just can´t stop hearing it!! ( well to be honest i can´t stop hearing 311 at all!! )

transistor was way ahead of its time. great album.
uplifter is really good too but their tracklisting is all out of wack. this song should have made the album. hey you should have been nixed
chicagoelectricbicyc 2 years ago
311 is for everyone, but I find the majority of fans are in their 20's, usually later 20's. I'm 27 and 311's "blue" album - which first took them into mainstream success - was released when I was 13.
Crap, I feel old.
Oodus 2 years ago
your dead on here. im only 20, but id say the majority of there true fanbase is the 25-30 crowd. like you said, 311 reached there mainstream peak from around 1996-1999, so you have to put it in perspective. theyve still managed to grow a huge teen following over the years..mostly from there live shows...and amber and love song haha.
orlandbr 2 years ago
I went to college in the late 1990's, and you have no idea just how big they hit during that time period (along with RATM). They were everywhere! Unfortunately, many followers tried to replicate their sound and killed the scene as a whole. Besides, the boys grew up, you know? I haven't been to a show lately, but I doubt they can replicate the massive energy swell their crowds had back in the 90's. Still stoked that their around (and respected) , though. Says a lot about them

yeah im 20, i started listening to them when i was 6 and fuckin loved them ever since, best band there ever will be

311 a teenage band??hahaha. the live shows ive been to in the last 4 years it seemed most people in the crowd are post college age.
chicagoelectricbicyc 2 years ago
depending where you are and what time it is...all depends...ive seen them with mostly adults...mostly kids...different shows...times...locations...draws diff kinds of crowds...been going to their shows for past 15 years...i know.
ZzTheTruthzZ 2 years ago
Why the hell wasn't this on the album!? Great song.......
KAC14515 2 years ago
Just heard this today, wtf why wasn't it on deluxe version. Makes you hope for an all unreleased album. Great song, Best Band. Live show # 9 this fall go if you haven't!
hexumirish 2 years ago
whoever said tht 311 is not a teenage band is so wrong...311 is for everyone becuase they have such a unique and diverse music style that no matter what genre u are looking for 311 has wrote at least one song on it and they play the song rele fucking good
shwedilpop 2 years ago
the problem with 311 is that they are so diverse and therefore create different kinds of fans. i mean the hardcore ones will love it all mostly, but theres people that only like the softer stuff... then theres ones that only like the earlier heavy stuff. theres hardly anyone in between :/
i for one love just about everything theyve done. DTOM is the sore thumb of their catalogue but everything else is great (esp. Uplifter).

Can we stop the pissing contest, please?
I consider myself to be a very educated and dedicated fan of 311, and I did not have any idea who they were until my sophomore year of high school when "Down" was ripping up the charts. If you knew about them before that time, it does not make you a "bigger" fan, but rather a "luckier" fan.
Let's give it up. They've been doing this for 19 years now, and not once has this band disappointed me. As fans we should be grateful.

This song's bridge is amazing!!!
I could've sworn I've heard it before, though... Weird.
Uplifter has the best B-Sides since the Blue ALbum. Wow.
