My uncle in law owned one of these through the 90's, everybody thought it was amazing. Then, he decided he wanted to "upgrade" to a 90's Vette which he customized with custom green and purple flame paint, custom interior, and Lambo doors. Delorean was a great concept but it was doomed from the start, They got 100 million form the Brits with strings attached that doomed the company. They had to pay inexperienced workers premium pay & benefits. When you are trying to run a for profit business with a gov that provided funding mainly to employ people, not turn a profit, pulling the strings it is destined to fail. They went to Ireland for low labor but ended up having to pay premium wages to inexperienced workers. Worst of both worlds

I saw this for real! It was down the street from my house! The car is really cool and small! The stainless stell made the car not to rust when it rains. The car is long lasting! It never brakes down! I love the delorean DMC 12 and the delorean time machine from all three back to the future movies. Like doc brown saids great scott! Marty saids you build a time machine out of a delorean!

There's an interesting article in Hemming's Classic Car Aug 2011 on Delorean. Basically 8,600 cars were produced in 1981-82 and have a cult following mainly due to the movie...and the ride that was at Universal Studios in the mid-90's.

They may not have been a bullet a take off with 0-60 being 9 seconds but that is still a decent top speed and acceleration considering it is made of steel.

Many people complained about the car's defects when the first Deloreans rolled out of the factory but of the 9000 cars sold in the US, 30 years ago, almost 7000 are still on the road. They were not "disposable" cars like most of today's 4-cylnder cars which you have to junk after they reach 80,000 miles. And contrary to popular myth, DMZ was not a "failed" company; it had enough orders to keep it going for 3 years. I just hope the new Deloreans are as good as the originals.

It was originally a 200hp engine, but the US emissions choked the exhaust down which then lowered the HP. The car is only a few hundred more lbs than an Alpine A310 and has the same exact engine... with the perfect setup

Yes, the regulations in the U.S with the catalyctic converters choked 20hp off the original 150hp and they did some bad changes to the suspension system. I know the DeLorean specced for Europe didn't have these changes and was released as originally intended.
