Erm, your hips are supposed to stay flat to the front and level. Your arm positions are shocking and you need to keep your back up when these positions.
Okay, here are a few tips: 1. Don't use a mirror for balance. Use a freaking barre. 2. Don't lean forward....professional dancers keep their upper body straight as if they were standing up. 3. Don't bend your knee. Please. 4. point your darn toes! 5. STOP BENDING DOWN ON THE ATTITUDE POSE. YOU DON'T FREAKING DO THAT, WOMAN. YOU STAND STRAIGHT. 6. Loose weight. 7. quit ballet. 8. stop making kids injure themselves with your videos. K, thanks, bai... not much love, -A
"I teach the Russian style" Vaganova just rolled in her grave "same as the Balanchine Nutcraker" I bet the Balanchine trust would disagree. And BTW, not all ballet dancing is about competitions and impressing judges.
good god. someone shoot me. AND her while your at it. yeah. her arabesque was like a whimpy 45 degrees, and her attitude sucks most epically. attitudes hurt like a mofo and if it doesn't hurt, you're not doing it right. after doing a CORRECT attitude, my back hurts soooo bad omggg. this is CRAPPPPPP
:48 on is bullshit... and p.s. Ballet isn't something you do TO keep in shape. That would imply that you are doing it as a hobby, aka, not at a high/professional level (which you can only get up to if you love it, if it's your passion.. and at that point it keeps you in shape)...
..if you wanna keep in shape go to the gym or something. (ballet is toning but anaerobic)
Even if this is a beginners video, you have to TAKE YOUR TIME to explain exactly what your body needs to do. That includes from the tip of your toe to the top of your head. Ballet is perfection of alignment. Explain to the students the placement of feet, the relaxation of the toes (not gripping floor), the straightening of the knee, turn out, the SQUARING OFF YOUR HIPS, torso pulled up, shoulders back and down, and of course the position of the arms as there are 1st 2nd 3rd 4th & 5th arabesque
ok im getting so sick of this, there are many ways that someone teaches ballet , there many different styles of ballet and maybe this is how she got taught , so stop leaving rude and nasty comments, b/c im sure if u were to put a video about ballet up here you would get critized too. b/c not everyone gets trained the same so stfu wid dat bs
@mzgymnast1234 Actually no there isnt. There is proper alignment and there is incorrect alignment. Ballet isnt "interpreted", it is traditional and curricular. Thats like saying there are many ways to speak english. No, there is one correct way and then there are ways to make you look foolish and uneducated.
What the hell?? Forget about her technique ... her words aren't even correct, i.e., "... Russian style that can be seen in George Balanchine's, The Nutcracker ..." Uuuhhh, last time I checked that would be the style of NYCB, or BALANCHINE style, not Vaganova (Russian)! She needs to get a clue.
i go to a russian school and none of that is russian you should not do ballet ever and you sure as heck should not be teaching ANYONE how to dance.. not even my cat. in fact my cat should be teaching YOU how to do ballet.
this is pretty terrible! i really hope she doesnt instruct ballet classes because her students would be learning all wrong! shes laying down, her knee is falling, and she is not supporting her core at all. especially if you do not dance, dont follow this womans example.
@MrRadycal because this woman has horrible technique and she isn't doing anything right. i took ballet for 14 years from instructors with professional dancing experience and i still take classes whenever i can (i'm in college now as bio major so i don't always have time). i can't believe people pay money for classes with her. i'm thinking of starting my own videos teaching ballet on youtube because there are so many bad instructors posting videos on here.
I'm not being rude, just honest. These videos should not be deleted because she's bad, but because she is giving out poor instructions as a teacher. Ballet, mainly because of the turn out, can be dangerous if it's done wrong. Especially ankles, knees and the back are at risk. She is claiming to be something she is not. Would you approve of a first year med student giving out medical advice and prescriptions online as a "doctor"? Exactly the same thing.
@angelbaby233 well, can u give good websites or videos for beginners? because i have never done ballet, but i do love it and want to give it a try ^^.. but here i dont have school or courses to exercise for ballet? so what do u recommend? simple rules, instructions? :D and tthanks for the help
@diiiva2010 ...if you want to do an attitude.....be sure to keep the standing foot flat on the floor..don't tense it like this person does...look straight ahead not back at your raised leg ... you need a full length mirror...and don't let the hips do whatever they want...hips need to be as still as possible...her knee is high enough I guess for non professional purposes. ...I hope this helps a little
Okay...y'all need to stop being so mean in the way you criticize others. She's just trying to help out. And I agree...I dont beleive she's really a ballet teacher, this isnt russian technique and she's not doing it correctly based on any technique I've ever seen, but she's teaching the less ballet-serious a step that might be useful and strengthens many useful muscles....maybe someone whos not a serious dancer but is interested in dancing will get some use from this.
hey there, you may be an expert but not in Ballet, how you show it is completely WRONG!!!! Sorry but perhaps you should study about this little more because teachers like you destroy the children who is starting to learn how to dance. I am sorry don't mean to be rood but this sort of things really put me off!
Russian technique is Vaganova and it is definetely not simpler and just for children. Also Balanchine technique is named for him and is based on his russian training but is not the same. PLEASE stop spreading incorrect info.
I feel weird saying anything because all the other comments are obviously from experts. I just wanted to say that as an adult who will probably never take a ballet class, this at least has helped me get a little exercise in.
I agree completely, i mean i enjoy just the feeling this gives me. All these professionals, please do correct and explain, but with gentleness and grace
don't do what she says-- some of her techniques will result in injury if you don't take a ballet class, and all you know is from expertvillage videos. If you want to get exercise, I recommend yoga. Just like ballet, it improves strength and flexibility, just at a slower pace.
The thing she teaches is good, but it depends on what you are looking for... Like somebody already said, it is not Russian, but not every ballet is supposed to be russian...
i'm wondering why shes teaching attitudes to begginers and why is she teaching when she leans way forward in her arabesques doesnt turn out and doesnt really point her feet.... b ut maybe thats just me
This is not even close to Russian technique. She is showing a very closed attitude and Russian attitude is much more open, with a longer line. Not to mention the complete lack of turnout and correct body placement.
she is definitely not teachings russian style. if she is refering to vaganova as being simpler, she hasn't learned it before. and balanchine did not teach russian, he taught his own style as mentioned previously.
Incorrect: this is not Russian ballet. Reference the video of the positions of the arms. What Balanchine taught was not exactly Russian ballet either. He taught his own ideas about ballet, based off of his Russian training. If she was teaching Balanchine technique (which she's not) that would accurately be "neoclassical." Russian is strictly classical.
FAIL.

Ok...This is completely wrong.....so for one you must hold your back up against they attitude position(will make your back stronger)
also shoulders down and shut down your core muscles so you can maintain control of your position...much more but this would be a good start.
