It will deal a total of 4 damage, but not all at once, it will deal 2 damage twice.
So if your equip a creature with doublestrike with a quietous spike (deathtouch + combat damage reduces life total of a player by 1/2 rounded up) you will do 2 damage + reduce life total by 1/2 then deal 2 damage and then reduce life total by 1/2 again. (e.g. 20 life >18 > 9 > 7 > 3)
With doublestrike you can activate abilities that trigger when damage is delt more than once to creatures or players.
Yes because the marisis do the damage first in the moonglove, but it on die at first strike, and then the marisis do the second damage and the moonglove do your first strike at it, and have deaththouch, so its die.
I don't think you can simplify deckbuilding to mere colors. For example in standard the Merfolk decks are usually Blue/white and the Faerie decks are usually Blue/black. Now I think Faeries is the stronger archetype but that doesn't mean that blue and black is always better.
so what happens when a Skyhunter Skirmisher is blocked by a 1/1 with flying and regeneration?? do you have to regenerate twice because it is dealt lethal damage twice?
I think this video could be a little clearer and let people know that when a doublestrike creature attacks and isn't blocked it deals double dmg to the defending player. Still a good video though.
my question is does First Strike and Double Strike cancel each other out? as in if a creature has both does it have three attacts or is it the same as just having first strike? i've been paling forever and everyone says something different!
There can only be two combat damage steps. I suppose the creature has both abilites but only double strike is effective (it does damage in 1st and 2nd combat damage step). If that creature loses double strike it still has first strike.
A creature with double strike deals first strike combat damage AND regular combat damage. If a creature with first strike blocks a creature with double strike, first strike damage is dealt and if it wasn't enough to destroy either one, THEN the regular combat damage is dealt by the creature with double strike.
i get that! what i'm still wondering is if a creature has first strike and double strike and is blocked by a creature with only double strike does the first strike hit first then the double strike or do they still hit at the same time?
Oh. If a creature has first strike and gains double strike, its first strike is cancelled out. Double strike includes first strike, so it won't get two first strikes.
my friend kept telling me if I chump block his 12/12 double striker he gets through for 12 during normal damage step which I argued with him that if it is blocked it is still considered blocked even though the creature is dead the judge at my local card shop said I was correct and so did this video
Normally, i would believe that First Strike and Double Strike are too advanced topics to discuss together in one video for new players. That said, I think you covered them marvelously.
if i creature with double strike attacks your opponent directly will it hit them twice?
example: a 2/2 double strike creature atks your opponent directly. does it deal 4 damage or only 2?
this has been an issue with some friends of mine for a while.

it will do 4 damage
fatwisconsinguy 2 years ago
yes, it deals it's damage twice. It deals 2 during the first step, and 2 during the second.

regeneration removes a creature from combat. so no.
lokasenni 2 years ago
No. It regenerates tapped and therefore can only block once.
