I actually watched the 4kids version till the episode were crocodile throws luffy into the sand pit then i switched to sub because the site i watched the 4kids version on was down and i was surprised to say the least at how much stuff they cut out my first introduction was a 4kids episode i thought the story was intresting so i watched it online i heard the sub was better but i just wanted to watch it in english because well i only speak english now looking back.....my god was it horrible

@wiimater This review was made in 2008 before Season One, Second Voyage was about to be released in the US. At that point, the Japanese broadcast of One Piece had got over the 350 episode point at the time I did this review.

I agree that the one piece 4kids dub sucked,but the true one piece fans shouldnt have expected anything.its being dubed by 4kids,of course its gonna have pretty much everything cool edited out.the only reason 4kids did a good job on yu-gi-oh & pokemon was because they were kids show to begin with.funimation saved the show from being hated by americans and left everything that made one piece awsome in there great dub.great dub,great voices & great music.one piece is the greatest anime ever!!!!!!!

of course every fucking anime fan out there thinks the sub is better than the dub but i am part of a race that is slowly going extinct called the dubbies the people that always like the dub better than the sub and will listen to it in English no matter what they sound like hell i even listened to the 4KIDS one piece because i hate reading subs and i do read them for animes that haven't been dubbed new episodes and uncutness plus i like the English voices better don't kill me

Ungh, the japanese luffy voice is so much more better then the english one. Luffy is a DUDE. Why does he sound like he got kicked in the balls and his balls exploded into a thousand vaginas?! ESPECIALLY CHOPPER.

the only thing i hate that funimation did is that they change usopps voice to the voice actor of krillin of dragon ball z because the 4kids voice they gave him was pretty goof and that kinda fit his character expecally with those lies he makes. another thing i hate they did is that they made chomppers voice the same when he transforms cause in 4kids hes getting chased by luffy and sanji and he changes and sound deep. but in funimation his voice is still high i don't hate funimation by the way.

@strick1011 I think usopp's voicE is spot on. And as for chopper's voice, Funimation kept it the same when he transformed because that's how it is in the Japanese version. His voice never changes
