New ? Pretty inventive ? No. This kind of furniture is very old and common... except that some carpenters would not add a metallic mechanism (for some "philosophy") and the table would not be opened so smoothly.
AND this is a very nice work, even unfinished (need some polish, wax or else ?). I would like to see if the leaf is reversible but at first sight, it seems to be. Keep quality and I wish you plenty of success !

@dynamowhum you just went back 100 years in women rights advancement. what was all that about women being capable and independent, a child probably weights more do me a favor and dont post things like these. besides even if it IS way to heavy for a single person and we are to assume this guy's on steroids, you dont need the whole table, the small version gives enough room for one and you dont have to worry about that "heavy chunk of wood"

The reason for the table expanding, is so that you can add a new leaf. The storage compartment is an added bonus =)

Nice table but I don't get lifting a heavy chunk of wood to get to the silverware. I don't think that part was designed with women in mind.
