Only the Romanian aristocracy (around 3000 people) owned gypsies. They also owned the villages, the lands and the Romanian peasants; basically a Romanian peasant was a slave bound to the land (serf/iobag/ruman/vecin), a Gypsies were slaves not bound to the land. If you have peasant origins, like me and the rest of 99% of Romanians, your ancestors were slaves, just like Gypsies.
