right, 3 ways mine did this what i did, 1. disconected everything hhd the lot and layed it down in a cooler area 2. open it up (if you got the courage) and do the 'X-clamp' fix (more info online) 3rd: check your power rating the sticker above the place where you plug the power cable in what does it say? find out how prone your 360 is to red rings

That's weird cause I was playing COD World At War with my friend on Nazi Zombies, at lvl 20 the screen got all messed up, then we died. then about an hour later we go to play Fallout 3 and It gave me the ring and E74. COD World At War is evil

This happened to me when I came back from vegas. I just popped in a game, and turned it on by opening the tray.. As a matter of fact, I just did this not too long ago. I hope this helps. So turn on your console by opening the disc tray, wait for the error (if there is one) then close it with the game in it. and turn it on. It worked for me, so it should for everybody else
I played ps1 and ps2 when i was younger just this last year I switched to xbox 360 it was refurbished and lasted about 7-8 months. E74 is video output problem. In most cases it's GPU (cold solder joint/damaged). Other reasons are bad AV cable and ANA/HANA chip (cold solder joint/damaged).
I fixed this many times by opening up the xbox, taking out the heatsink for the graphic card. putting on some thermal gel, heating it with a really hot wind blower. it fixes for a month then this bullshit happens again

@nobleeskimo it's the same problem - it's just not a system error.. i've called microsoft.. and it is linked the 3 red rings, just a differnet way of showing the error now and days! i'm sure because i have asked microsoft customer support reps. and they said it is linked to the second error code 0102 (unknown error) they even tested av cables on it when they got it in the repair shop

i got the 3 red rings on my xbox 360 few days ago but it hold 4 years, now i am gonna buy the xbox360 slim and after that i fucking shit on microsoft!!
they have an extended 3 year warrant on 1 red ring "e74" error and 3 red rings. If you dont know how to fix it. Towel trick it until it turns 2 red lights and manually shuts itself off. This is a temp fix. Another way is open your xbox and unplug the fan from the motherboard and disconnect the dvd drive, and let the xbox overheat. (works much faster than the towel trick) both only temp fixes though. If im not mistaken it has something to do with the HANA/ANA chip which to fix you have to solder.
@KEVINstupidshit you should take your xbox apart take the x clamps off , take the heat sinks off, take the processors out, clean with rubbing alcohol, apply arctic silver, reseat, then do the q tip trick, and you'll have a brand new xbox basically. good luck, watch tripleaces video on youtube, perfect.

I found that my dvds still work if I just put them in.
They work, but not my games.
So I put in a dvd-it works.
I take the dvd out, and put in my game. It works!
I dont know for how long this will be effective, But Im hopefull.

i just gought one for christmas and it had E74 error the first time i pluged it up
it looks like someone at gamestop had dropped it because there are some scratches... dents? Scuffs i guess where it looks like something has been slammed against it or it has been dropped
my dad refuses to fix it so im stuck with a broken xbox for christmas c: what fun

YEAAAH I HAVE THE XBOX 360 4GB and its fucking great !! This one does not warm up!! And played more than 9 hours every day (vacations) and not him to past at all!! stick something thin to the back of the xbox so it blocks the fans , turn xbox on and press the scan button right away . thats how u fix E74, but it will come back sooner or later , i had to do this every 2 days for a year and got another xbox (elite) that has died so i got myself a ps3, that works fine :D

i got that shit about a week ago and it broke my black ops so i called them and was talking to them and they told me i still have the warrenty and im like ok so i waiting for the label to send it 9 days now and its gonna be 4 weeks to fix it seems almost fucking pointless since the holidays are coming

if u have an xbox260 arcade do not lay it FLAT on the groun while playing a game u will get a ring scratch on the game u where playing. al ways keep it tiped up ward

@nobleeskimo it's the same problem - it's just not a system error.. i've called microsoft.. and it is linked the 3 red rings, just a differnet way of showing the error now and days! i'm sure because i have asked microsoft customer support reps. and they said it is linked to the second error code 0102 (unknown error) they even tested av cables on it when they got it in the repair shop

they have an extended 3 year warrant on 1 red ring "e74" error and 3 red rings. If you dont know how to fix it. Towel trick it until it turns 2 red lights and manually shuts itself off. This is a temp fix. Another way is open your xbox and unplug the fan from the motherboard and disconnect the dvd drive, and let the xbox overheat. (works much faster than the towel trick) both only temp fixes though. If im not mistaken it has something to do with the HANA/ANA chip which to fix you have to solder.

@KEVINstupidshit you should take your xbox apart take the x clamps off , take the heat sinks off, take the processors out, clean with rubbing alcohol, apply arctic silver, reseat, then do the q tip trick, and you'll have a brand new xbox basically. good luck, watch tripleaces video on youtube, perfect.
