The guy behind that rifle should not even be hunting, what a disgrace. At least you missed clean and didn't have a maimed deer suffering for days or weeks to then go to waste. That deer looked less than 100 yards away. I would have dropped it with one shotgun round fired with open sights never mind a high power rifle. My advice would be to spend some time at the range and learn how to shoot. And if the gun is not sighted properly that is a bigger reason to be at the range and not in the woods.

Ok this could have easily been a damaged scope. I've seen it before. Somebody comes in the shop saying they can't hit shit with said rifle.
