I have that same exact amp and no matter what i try i cant seem to get a nice Metallica sound or the smells like teen spirit distorted sound it sounds all retarded and off. How do you guys get your tones for the 2? (yes i am using proper song preset the manual says its suppose to be)
@TheELPazzaro You gotta crank that master volume and use the wattage knob to control the volume. This way you push the 12AX7 in the output circuit and soak the hell out of it. Works for me. :D
Hello, Im seriously considering buying the vox 40 plus. Im playing in a classic rock band and a country band doing Rythum and slide guitar, and i was wondering if the 60 watts on this model would be loud enough for a jam/practice situation. I can always mic it with my sm57 beta for live applications if it comes to that. My question is do you think it would this work for what i am talk about here? Thank you
@ggwhipple The VT40+ is both deafeningly loud and whisper quiet. The clean amp models are awesome. You'll love the Dumble ODS, Fender Twin/Super/Bassman, the Bruno Cowtipper Pro 22, Vox AC30, and the Matchless DC30 models for country playing. Their are tons more too. THE SECRET TO THIS AMP'S TONE IS TO MAX THE MASTER VOLUME AND USE THE WATTAGE CONTROL AS YOUR VOLUME.
Remember this amp has a dual-triode12AX7 in it's output circuit. Vox has simulated a push-pull tube amp brilliantly. It sings!

I heard one of these yesterday at guitar center, guy had it sounding like a randy rhoads tone, was quite impressed with the sound , then the price $249?? might get one.
can someone pleas tell me , is it possible to turn off the effects on this amp so its like a baisic amp ? :) (so only the gain , master , volumne ect.ect. is on)
@huwaarone yes, sort of. Theres a manual mode, you still have to pick an amp setting but thats effectively like a second gain nob. So its a little harder to select the manual sound you want.
@huwaarone yeah, if u like to play a wide range of music styles or guitar sounds. Its got 22 in built pedal effects and 3 kinds of reverb, all of which the intensity of the effect can be turned up or down (so its not just on or off). Theres 33 amp models and 99 in built sounds from those amp models (all of which can be modified in manual mode). The booklet has every sounds settings in it which is useful. What way would u be using it? Bed room, Band practice?
is this good for metal, like slipknot and grunge like nirvana and seether? I imagine but I would like another opinion, i might get one, don't tell me to get a marshal or peavy or Mesa, I'm not rich, thanks!
@jma111000 hi i own a vox vt30 these amps have the guts for all types of metal so yes but that being said it can still maintain all the tones vox is hailed for (ac30,and other clean tones). But deffinatly for the mony you cant get a better amp. cheers
Ok chappers i know your a busy man, but just a quick answer needed, this or mustang 2, i only play either buckethead style cleans and lamb or priest style metal so all the blues rock tones are of no use to me lol :) cheers m8
never get a marshall mg30dfx, it's awful haha :) if you get a Marshall don't get an MG model :), i have the Roland microcube for at home or on the move it goes on batteries best practice amp ever, and then there is the vox vt80+ i have which i use for practice's, the range of tones are unbelievable good for recording, no bother with bringing a tuner it has one built in, and you can save everything onto the channels so you can just stop your pedal and away!!! :).
Glad I saw this - was considering it but not anymore. It does have some nice features, but all I need is a great overdrive and clean tone, not all the bells and whistles. Sounds like it would be a fantastic buy for a first amp.
I noticed a lot of these Vox Vt's sound plinky and thin in You Tube videos. They are nothing like that in person. You have to really work with them with your own guitar. I have a Vox VT30 at home, and it sounds nothing like this. It sings, it's chunky warm and sweet with my Strat. I mike it up with an SM57 in the sweet spot, and I swear I get some of the best tones I have ever heard anywhere. 2 of my freinds have Mesa's and I can get a wider range of better tones in recording sessions.
Dunno whether to go for this amp or the roland cube 40XL, anyone got any thoughts? Wanna play a range of stuff from ska and reggae all the way through to hardcore and metal so one of these modelling amps would be ideal
@spitfire900 this definately - the roland has some good distortion sounds, but the cleans are shoddy and it tends to break at high volumes. I think either this or the Marshall MG30FX :)
@RockGuitarDave The amp's fine if you use pedals... Just set it to clean and leave the gain at 1/3 of the way all volumes and masters up. And just use the Wattage to adjust volumes..
I thought the same thing, worked it out after 10 mins of sorrow. My Zoom G2 is fine now :)
Is there a way with this amp to switch between normal settings(just distortion or a clean sound) to combo settings like distortion w/ wah? Just wondering because it would seem inconvenient to have to press buttons on the amp during a song to add wah to a certain lick or solo when you could just press like a pedal or something... Im only asking because I want a good versatile amp, but keeps things easy to work with...
@ChrisO7300 yep, just program your chosen clean to one of the banks and your chosen distortion to another, and use the footswitch to change between them :) I have the old AD30VT and you can also toggle the effects on and off separately if you like. I think the new footswitch does more though, so you can probably switch from clean to overdrive to lead distortion or whatever you've programmed in! Hope that helps.
Thanks, these guys play the right things to demo this kind of amp and they've got a great sense of humour. Thanks ,I love the amp,Vox really has stepped it up.
@DrGolfJam There's a Power Level that can be set between 0W (No Noise) and 60W (DINOSAUR NOISE!). You can also set it at 40W. You just simply turn the knob to any position you want.
um can anyone tell me that is this better dan the laney prism series bcoz it is very very similar to this also the price is less for a 20 w prism a 35 w prism cost equal to this so does anyone kno anything dat mite help

@TrippyTheShroom It has got 4 presets dedicated for metal, so I think it works in heavy music. But I didn't try it... I'm going to buy this amp and I play metal too, so I hope it will be fine.
@FeelTheFight lol, im a pretty diverse player myself, anywhere from blues to the heaviest of metal....so trying to find a decent priced amp that can cover all of that is...alot harder than most would expect
@RobChappers I was wondering what the more distorted amp settings you were using one becuase i have got one of these great amps but i am struggling to find a really good distorted sound i like as the US Metal and Boutique Metal settings dont seem to have much distortion.
@slimmetalpickn the vt 80+ does have a smaller speaker than the vt 100 aswell doesnt it.....the biggest factor in determining how loud an amp is is the speakers efficiency, a good effecient 97db/w/m speaker in a 30 watt amp will sound as loud as a cheapo 90db/w/m speaker does in a 100 watt amp
Help me should I get this or the Roland cube 40XL. I can't really try this amps because they don't have it in the stores of my country, so please help me decide.
Just a heads-up correction guys. The 99 memory slots referred to at 2:24 are factory pre-sets (that CAN'T be tweaked & saved in their original position), these are NOT user memory slots. There are only 8 user memory slots that can be custom programmed & recalled! By the way, for those confused at 1:38 with Chappers 'Weirding module' remark - it comes from the film 'Dune' based on 'Frank Herbert's book (which incidentally had Sting playing a baddie - so a musical link there too!). Best, Rich
i would like to buy the amp ... please tell me : when you store 1 channel does it save with the effects ? so i wont have to activate the delay or what is selected , separately ! ( like ch 1 clean , ch 2 crunch, ch 3 lead+delay and so on ... tks !
Gravity, Brown Sugar, Cocaine, Creep , I feel fine, Pride, Foxy Lady, Enter Sandman, song 2, Know your ennemy, Blue wind,Message in a Bottle, Under the bridge; Sultans of swings, Rebel Rebel,You Enjoy Myself, Smoke On The Water, Beat It, For the Love of God, Best Of You, Satch Boogie, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Wonderwall, Pride and Joy, Walk This Way, Back In Black, Paranoid, Tie Your Mother Down, Black Dog, Sweet Child O' Mine, Five Minutes Alone, Hot For Teacher, Raining Blood.
Hey guys these amps are also great for us old farts who want to jam with our old fart buddies and don't want to carry our 80 lb Bogners around any more :D
I posted in your other thread that you should do a "how to sound like Metallica amp shootout PART THREE" including this amp and the vypyr 60tube compaired to that darkstar and the one you guys chose, the jet city.
Spend more time with this VT40+ and then let us know how it sounds for metallica sound. There are no settings yet posted on youtube or vox forum so its all up to your ear. It suposedly has an adjustable noise gate as well as tuner
Noticed your dog, Thats funny, when i play classic metallica my cat crawls on the amp or on my guitar, she loves it. Rubs her chin and face and head on my Guitar and purrs.

I wonder how it would sound if one connected it to a Bogner 4X12 cabinet, if it would be a good and plausible combination.

Best, Rich

Hi... I dont understand... Is a 40w or 60w amp? thanks...
elpajaro27 1 year ago
@elpajaro27 In reality, it's a 60w. they market it as a 40w that can be "pushed" to 60w, though

ugh. I've asked this question in quite a number of amp demo vids.
1. Can I gig with this amp? clean and brutal with a very loud drummer?
2. how good is it with pedals?
jedaxel 1 year ago
Great demo ! just shows a small part of how versatile this amp is !! The Dog is awesome too !!

Hey champ man... how does this stack up to the other two good modeler amps. (The cube, and the mustang)
they are already in directly competing with each other ...
let's get a vid of you guys comparing them 1v1v1.

Does this amp sound better in person or on here? (It sounds sorta gritty on here.) How does it compare to a vt30 or a AC15vr or a Fender mustang II?

SO what did you guys think of it for metal?
