@cubyme1...me thinks the two dislikes are Sting and John Taylor from Duran Duran.....just saying.....smiling!! Jealousy a bad mutha fudger doncha know!!
Great Bass playing my man...as jwright said it is a workout fo sho. Have always loved The Funkmeisters from before I ever learned to play a Bass but it was RUSH that got me going and sir Geddy...but for a workout play "Freewill"....that's finger blister waiting to get acquainted with you!! Thanx again for the time and effort in sharing this with US, your new Peeps! Smiling and ~~~Waving~~~from OH..TEN
This song will definitely give a bass player a work out. Great song! A lot of changes in it but a lot of fun to play on bass if you can keep up with it. Good job.
@cubyme1. I play bass also and have been wondering which camcorder can handle the sound with clarity. Does the Flip sound great with the lows and highs? Thanks.
Yeah...great job cubyme1 clean bass lines. What's your bass, nice color too? Its been a long time i was in HS and i'm in love again playing these basslines of GFR. Just bought my new acoustic bass. @Greg, I agree, they should be included in the Hall of Fame
Greg, I am 51 and have been a fan of GFR since I was 14. I've always favored Mel Schacher's playing. I must admit to being somewhat of a purist when it comes to other people playing any artist's or group's music but I have no patience for musical adlibs.
In my opinion, your playing of Closer to Home is outstanding! I've never heard another musician play it so closely to the original. On top of that, this isn't one of those 4 note bass lines. This is a complicated song!! Well done.
Awesome job on a great song. My son is 13 year old aspiring bass player. We both enjoyed the video and are big GFR fans. VERY impressive and inspiring! Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the nice compliment. I am impressed that your 13 year is a fan of GFR one of the super rock bands that should be inducted into the Hall of Fame. I think he will do very well playing bass.
haha dude am i like the youngest one here who likes grand funk..... im 13.... well i lived with my grandfather my whole life so far and he was a huge fan grand funk, zz top, and lots of old skool rock... im just like him.
I have been trying to practice this song for a couple of weeks. I couldn't figure out where I was going wrong until I watched you play it. Thank you Greg, your talent is amazing!!
Nice clear vid,,I would like to suggest a diff angle. I know alot of young players use youtube to learn basslines. From that angle, its very tough to see what frets you are playing.

if i started bass should i start 4 or 5 or 6 strings?

Hello,
I would recommend 4 strings starting out and then you can always switch to five strings.
