Erm I play both at a fairly high level I I'm telling you now skating isn't easy to master and did take me a good year before I was ready to compete even at junior level, field hockey is played at a much high speed (at senior level) and dribbling is a hell of a lot harder and I have had a far more serious injury playing field hockey than I have playing ice hockey (dislocated shoulder). Having said that the two pretty much go hand in hand

There's also puck-handling vs. ball-handling. A flat lightweight disc on an almost perfectly flat surface vs. a perfectly round, hard object...
on a not so flat surface. Guess what is more difficult to handle....
One outstanding difference on the highest level is the respect for the opponents and referees. In (Olympic) icehockey it seems like virtually absent, in fieldhockey there is a high degree of respect and discipline. I presume that's driven by commercial demand. If it is anything else I feel pity for icehockey-players.

Well, I feel stupid for this. But I'm just recently discovering hockey, I'm a goaltender for a dek hockey team, and I'm just intrigued by this, I can't believe how similar the goalie padding is.
I play ice hockey and personally think it's a lot better, but this doesn't look too bad and I certainly wouldn't mind giving it a try. And yeah I'm from Canada, never seen a field hockey game.

3 of my 4 children play field-hockey, and I find myself almost every saturday on a hockey-pitch
watching their games or leading them as a referee.

I play ice hockey and personally think it's a lot better, but this doesn't look too bad and I certainly wouldn't mind giving it a try. And yeah I'm from Canada, never seen a field hockey game.

@geekygorilla You're right. Ice Hockey is Hockey. I never knew that Field Hockey was actually played by men as its a girls sport. I'm never surprised about the crap I see from these countries though.

It's got to be the Dwyer. Taeke is obviously the man you want on top of the D in short situations but Dwyer is the best player.

I think you are forgetting the man who inspired them and was the father of modern age hockey he was silky inplay but could do the shorts and stuff too. ONE NAME SOHAIL ABBAS.

thats a bit far. all the guy could do was flick. the rest of his game was poor, and it is widely agreed upon that he wouldnt even have made the pakistani team if he couldn't flick. for an all round player you have to look at TDN or dwyer.
