  • The irony is that SOPA and PIPA would actually INCREASE online privacy because there already is a 'dark-net' (the internet's version of the black market) that many people would turn to if these acts were passed and would upload and download copyrighted material in defiance of the acts, I would probably get the entire star wars collection without any of the remastering shit as a sign of my defiance against the acts and because I don't want to give George Lucas ANY MORE MONEY!

  • know how the FBI cracked down on megaupload? imagine that...but with the entire internet!

  • So Jon is the internet basically going to be like a strict bootcamp with 90% of stuff gone like Youtube. So basically you will get fined like $500 for uploading a picture of a cat that isnt yours?

  • @Jakanddaxter1999 ...More than 500 lol

  • @Jon Want to know whats SOPA backwards? A PIECE OF SHIT xD

  • I just love how people only went ape-shit in January 2012, not when it was proposed in JULY 2011! With the fucking PIPA bill going also in the House of Representatives AT THE SAME TIME! Yeah big protesters.

  • I love how people think SOPA is the biggest problem, when its actually one of the smallest.

  • Are you part of the Demand Progress group Jon?

  • YES SOPA=BAD I HATE SOPA AND NEVER WILL LIKE IT!

  • good video! THUMB UP! DREEZ

  • you know...sopa means soup in spanish

  • @MrMasterMan007 sopa in spanish means soup.

    sopa in english means retarded.

  • Now there is ACTA. I wish these people would just stop!

  • @SolarPowerPlant13 what's acta

  • Hay Jon wheres gametime at? Wheres the world according to Jon at? Wheres Jons adventure vlog at? Its year 2012 and you have posted only 3 videos this year!

  • I know this has absoultly nothing to do with the video, but something's up with Youtube's personal message system. It seems everytime my friend Felix and I recieve a personal message it says it's from our accounts rather than who actually sent it. I just want to tell you what's going on because we are flipping out.

  • We need a world according to Jon about mega upload. And anonymous...

  • Please vote for Vermin Supreme

  • As long as I can still download games, music, Windows 7, and surf facebook, check my email, I'm happy.

  • @MysteryManX22 sopa, pipa, and acta would:

make it that games cant post adds about pirated content, if cought they would shut down the game.

    youtube being shut down.

    facebook shut down.

    most of google shut down.

  • @pyrokiss1223 Your literacy makes me question your authority on the subject.

  • @PossumCuber .....its....a joke. seesh the video itself is a joke.

  • Make a video about ACTA, please. It's a much larger threat.

  • great and all, but you should cover ACTA, its even worse

  • is sopa also spanish 4 soup?

  • what's the music called

  • @22burnsie When Johnny Comes Marching Home

  • if ur going to do txt videos at least do it on an interesting subject. like paranormal things.

  • SOPA/PIPA has been POSTPONED!!!!! (indefinitely :\) but still this calls for a clebration.....right?

  • @MrMasterMan007 Not with ACTA knocking on the door.

  • And they all went into the ark, to get out of the rain... oh you were not singing along

  • what is the tune in the background (i live in the uk so no hate speach)

  • @Pikachufan82 The animals went in 2 by 2

  • @LOLfilms100 how stupid of me 2 forget and thanks :)

  • what song is playing in the video? i like it.

  • SOPA/PIPA are stopping people from breaking the law, so, people trying to prevent those bills to pass are trying to make people do the wrong thing and prevent the right from happening. So, has the internet/file sharing really done society any good if it's making them support doing the WRONG thing?

  • We Have Another Problem Though Search Up "ACTA"

  • i just heard both SOPA and Pipa have been postponed indefinitely! sweet!

  • i hate how American politicians think they can fuck with the whole world, i thought this was a country of freedom not the country of restrictions...

  • @Randomdude214 They don't mess with the whole world. It blacks out sites that have their server/service in the US. This would not affect a site from somewhere like the UK, Japan, etc.

  • Ive got good news. WE WON!!! SOPA LOST!!!!

  • Jon, I mentioned on FB I had been blocked on jpizzle1212 and you said you would offer a new chance. Tried to message you over there, no luck. Please unblock me from that channel. Review my activity, I have always been a straight shooter and a supporter.

You read every comment. Show me and I will testify.

  • [comment removed due to violation of infringement rights based on S.O.P.A.'s strict policies]]

  • SOPA and PIPA Have been Shelfed, Kudos for everybody who joined in on the Wednesday Blackout (I did) this was widely recognized by the Chief Sponsor of SOPA and this caused the withrawal of the ACT. Hurray! But sadly, we have lost Megaupload, you will be missed.

  • @ghostgaffdeck08 pipa isnt shelfed yet

  • i still pronounce the pipa law like the sister :P i only found out recently its pronounced differently

  • Does this only affect the United States? If so, couldn't that mean that every other country could just say "meh," and the US is pretty much neutering their internet?

  • @TheSonicGod The Internet is a global thing, and is, to my knowledge, US-based. Google is US based, at least. These laws would affect the entire world, although the US more so. If you think the economy's bad now, think of how bad it would be if SOPA and PIPA are allowed to pass. We would be thrown out of the information age, basically.

  • @TheSonicGod - It affects the internet. Which is a global entity. SOPA would affect everyone.

  • @Jon It's absolutely mind-boggling. All SOPA and PIPA would do is generate enemy after enemy. Such a thing simply cannot be allowed.

  • @Jon then we are all FUCKED

  • @Jon How exactly would SOPA and PIPA have effected the entire world? Nobody truly owns the internet. If China can block certain websites from being viewed within its boundaries, then surely the US can do the same without disturbing the rest of the world, right?

  • @croc122 - How many websites do you visit that are US-based?

... and, I rest my case.

  • @TheSonicGod From what little I read here and there, it appears that the people that wrote these acts don't have a full grasp of how the internet works. They are trying to affect the whole internet, but I can't think of what procedure they would use to shut down a site based lets say in like lithuania. I suppose they may censor sites they deem to be bad. If there was ever a time to use the word "Unamerican" I think this would be it.

  • @TheSonicGod It effects the whole internet so it goes around the whole freaking planet

    Internet=Worldwide

  • Ok, seriously speaking now, Jon, have there been a lot of people who have been confusing SOPA with soap and Pippa with PIPA or are you just making points that soap and Pippa are good but SOPA and PIPA are bad?

  • @jeremyshaw - It's a joke mostly.

  • @Jon Ah, check. Thanks.

  • @jeremyshaw If you ask me Spanish Speaking people who dont really know the internet will probably confuse Sopa with Soup

  • @GeoffShouldWin Yea, probably. I agree.

  • @jeremyshaw No. he's just messing around... Maybe he is one of THEM. We gotta to fight him!

  • @ssoonncciioo :D haha, Yea, possibly. Either way, so am I. haha, Yea he could be undercover lol. Absolutely!

  • (jk) But I like soup - especially in the winter. It's cold right now and I could really go for some chicken noodle soup with vegetables :)

  • If the Senate were to vote on PIPA right now, PIPA would pass with room to spare. Check out Propublica(dot)com to see a great side-by-side overview and see who is and isn't voting for this monstrosity. I only hope we can sway enough to our side before the 24th...

  • @Maklarr2000 org not com.

  • i don't think this bill will pass, its ridiculous. we'll have to wait and see, they vote on it on the 24th

  • SOPA is dead!

  • F**k SOPA

  • i knew jon would make a vid about this lol. good videos btw

  • God bless your America: land of the free. O wait...

  • Sopa means soup in spanish....

  • @the government fuck you and your dumb-ass laws

  • Wow, thanks for all the responses guys. You cleared a few things up about that!

    But another question ;)

When, if ever will the bill be passed. I don't know much about American law, sorry.

  • @Hordiyevych If this bill was to pass, one scenario would be both SOPA (which is in the presented in the lower house of representatives) and PIPA (which is presented in the senate) have to pass then a joint committee has to combine and consolidate them, then it gets voted on again then it goes to the President to be signed into Law. There are a few other scenarios as well. However, with millions upon millions signing the petition last wednesday and it being an election year I doubt it will pass.

  • Good :) We shall take this law down

  • Jon, I especially like the use of this song for the clip.

  • Comment removed

  • @pennyf9 - Um... it has nothing to do with politicians being greedy do.

Do your homework before you lash out.

  • @pennyf9 incase you don't all it means is a bunch of idiots sitting at a table don't know anything about the internet wrote sopa which was first to get rid of piracy and movies on youtube stuff like that. but if passes would screw over just about anything, google would probably not be affected to much as it is made and maintained by the goverment

  • @landon9560 dude that is the truth! you read my mind. you might not believe this, but the government for a long time have been trying to tax the internet (yes, tax) this sopa bill was step 1, take control of the internet

  • @pennyf9 Troll fail

  • Comment removed

  • @pennyf9 That's why you deleted your comment therefore: Troll fail.

  • @ByiLHS what are you talking about? i did not delete my comment

  • PIPA in Polish means....Pussy. And I'm not talking about cats.

    Video was somehow hilarious though.

  • Sopa is actually the Spanish word for Soup. Now that's pretty funny.

  • @zero9112 I must disagree... SOPA/PIPA is like I'm going to wiretap your Internet openly with no restrictions

  • These acts will hinder the future. Other nations will get ahead of us while we gripe about an internet with China-level censorship. If you want to make us dinosaurs, government, I will gladly move to Canada. As a virtual designer, I will not tolerate it if you ruin my industry.

  • 卐OPA.

  • For once, soup is not good for you.

  • Pippa = Good.

    PIPA = BAD

    LOL

    Nice one Jon!

  • Hey Jon, I want to do what i can to help stop these legislatures from passing, however, I'm a Canadian and can do nothing to stop what goes on in your government. Got any Ideas?

right now I am just contacting every american i know and telling them to fight SOPA and PIPA. is there anything else i can do?

  • sopa and pipa two very bad cuss words

  • lol u americans will get ass raped :D

  • Is it a good idea to microwave SOPA? Hell,Yeah it's creative f*cking idea.

  • @DonkeykongSw2 hahahahah

  • @DonkeykongSw2 Ha :D

  • @DonkeykongSw2 Ha :D

  • @DonkeykongSw2 exactly! Screw shelving it. Lets blow that shit up!

  • Better than Rick Perry's ad :)

  • Nice song choice :D.

  • even though it is based in america and it will be an american law... it affect the rest of the world like england and australia!!!!!!

  • a quick, funny and informative video.

  • You would not believe the amount of petitions I signed. I called senators and representatives, and man am I bushed. But, no rest for the weary, I still have one unruly senator to guide to the light that is the world without SOPA. I really don't want these to be the "good old days". Check out which of your Senators and Representatives are still for this monstrosity by checking out ProPublica(dot)com, which has a helpful pictorial guide. We can't stop now, they vote on the 24th...

  • sopa: stop online privacy act... wait wat

  • is this going to count in uk?

  • @HarryyPotterrLoverrX Yes, since the internet was Created and founded in the United States.

  • Short, concise, and to the point. I think even someone who knows nothing about the internet could understand this.

  • prost!!

  • The bill is dead...or will be...worried over nothing...

  • If this is passed i'm moving to the most free nation in the world... Norway.

  • @gergthemerg Doesn't matter where you live, you won't be accessing sites if they're taken down.

  • Well said, man.

  • SOPA is like killing a roach with a grenade. You hit the roach alright, along with everyone in the room.

  • @zero9112 That is a very fitting metaphor.

  • @zero9112 - Great analogy.

  • @Jon Jon, if at all possible, could you possibly do a video on this explaining what this means for the "active" YouTube users who upload videos like AMVs, and how these acts will also impact Vloggers and Wikipedia, I would personally liek to hear your thoughts on this and also i woudl like to know what i means for AMV creators (like myself) and Vloggers (like yourself)

    Thank You

  • @10j35u5 - No.

This means nothing, since it won't pass.

  • @Jon I am wondering if you are going to make a world according to Jon about this ?

I have noticed this story a month ago and i have noticed that in the past few years that things that are contrevershale in the past few years get atention after it is to late or at the last minute

  • @Platnumgaming64 - If it passes, sure. Right now, a law that doesn't exist isn't worth talking about.

  • @zero9112

It's more like trying to kill the roach but ending up destroying the whole apartment - and when the smoke clears, there's still roaches left dancing on the ruins while you're sitting in the street.

  • @zero9112 more like a nuke because the roach doesnt die ande everyone else gets fucked

  • @TpendragonT Grow up or get out.

  • TpendragonT = Troll.

    Don't feed it.

    Great video, Jon.

    ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH

  • "truth about sopa" I didn't get any useful information about sopa in this video.. Just what everyone else is saying "omg it's so bad" Never get to hear why it's so bad =/

  • @TpendragonT Just google it.

  • @fwaggylover I already know about sopa. It seems people like you have no idea.

  • @TpendragonT People like me, huh? Wow. Thanks for the generalization. I know very well what these bills do. I'm a regular subscriber to Jon's videos and I'm glad he's finally put something like this up. Sure, its not very descriptive otherwise, even I'm surprised at him for that, but the information is out there for those who care.

  • @fwaggylover Yes people like you. Blindly against sopa because everyone says it's bad. While you honestly have no clue what it's really about. Proven by your "google it" statement.

  • @TpendragonT What you said seemed like another inane "oh this doesn't tell me anything so it sucks" comment. This video was meant as a general clarification with a humorous twist. If people really want to know about these bills, then they can stop whining and look it up themselves.

  • If SOPA and PIPA are passed.... That must be a violation of our freedoms....

  • If SOPA and PIPA are passed, and Rick Santorum becomes president, I will pack my bags and move to Canada.

  • Word War III is about to begin my friends

  • And they all went marching down to get out of the rain *BA DUM*, Down to get out of the rain.

    Oh sorry, wrong topic.

  • This sopa/pipa (They don't deserve capitals) will have the possibility of murdering my dad's website and online store - he sells guitar/bass strings, and if sopa blocks his website, he has NO INCOME. The only way he can make money without his string business is by building guitars; one guitar takes about 1-2 MONTHS to build, and he sells them for around $1,500 - $3,000. Thats an average of about $375 per week... Now what about taxes and mortgage?

Really, EVERY website powered by ads is at risk.

  • It's a good thing conspiracies "don't exist" or this would suck.

  • SOPA = Spanish word for soup. Uncensored internet... or delicious chicken noodle?

  • SOPA is socialism.

  • @TheTyman4444 Wrong, SOPA is closer to communism, and yes. There IS a difference.

  • @zppbonzo I think we are both wrong. Its just plain stupid shit. We broke from England only for the same old shit... ahh fuck.

  • @zppbonzo SOPA is far from communism. It's government giving power to corporations to initiate takedowns. If it were a truly communistic bill, it would be working in exactly the opposite way - stripping the power to stake copyright claims against the proletariat away from the corporations.

  • Well, since porn is copyrighted, I will create my own porn site for you all if these laws are passed.

    PornHub.gov

  • Pipa = Kate Middletons sister

  • SOPA + PIPA = No more free Adult Literature

  • I completely agree with stopping piracy...having people who do nothing but illegally download music (that is, no music they have on their computer/iPod was legally obtained) does cut into the money that a band can make from the work they did.

SOPA and PIPA are not good ways of doing it though. There are ways of shutting down illegal sites without taking sites like YouTube or Reddit or Tumblr with them. SOPA/PIPA are not them, however.

  • 1984

  • the goverment is slowly taking away peoples freedom

  • I seriously don't see any reason good enough to even think of putting these bills into effect, let alone proposing them! Piracy has been a problem for quite some time, and even with these bills passed (which hopefully they won't) it most likely won't stop piracy...

  • Jon Paula = SOPA and PIPA opposer

    SOPA and PIPA opposer= smart

    Jon Paula= Smart

  • Comment removed

  • well, since im in canada, it looks like i cant do much to help you guys :(

  • I want to start by saying that i do not support this, but it is constitutional. Legislature has the power to control commerce across borders. The internet falls into that so they can get it through all houses. If voted by majority.

  • @rubesqubes1997 Err Wrong. The United States has no sovereignty over other countries and cannot tell anyone what to do outside of US borders.

  • @user99673 State borders smart one.

  • @rubesqubes1997 Mind specifying next time if you meant international or not...

  • looks like you spent all your time on the other video.

  • I have already heard of SOPA and PIPA, but I am glad to see you and so many other Youtubers getting the word out. Although I did expect more of an angry rant from you about it, was kind of looking forward to hearing you talk about how stupid they both are.

  • Simple and to the point. Couldn't have put it better myself Jon

  • I believe most if not all senators have sites where you can email the senator for your specific states, please be serious and firm with these men, it's all they understand.

  • Sopa = sucking on penis act

Pipa = penis in poop act

But in all seriousness sopa is horrible and people need to understand that sopa is the same as the sedition act but worse. I can't wait to tell my kids about the days when I could watch a music video on YouTube. Actually when YouTube still existed to be more precise. But if this bill DOES pass fuck America I will go to the UK at least I don't have to worry about my ISP tracking me there. Or getting banned from the Internet.

  • ohhhh so this is what the Mayans are talking about...heh the world gonna end just because of this

  • @Jon I just laughed so hard. XD

Thanks so much for making these videos!

  • This law, frankly, sucks.

  • Fuck this, lets get my ass to canada.
