  • I was born in the same town as Sergio. He lived up the street from my house in Guanabacoa, Cuba. I remember sitting in front of the house with the other kids and wait for sergio to walk by. We all would look at each other and say Holy shit! He was huge. Thanks for uploading.

  • Arnold's legs always fell behind compared to his upperbody developement. Just thin thighs with no sweeps or hamstrings--just small pillars that supported his upper region. Arnold came along and proved even more, that Sergio reigned supreme.

  • Sergio was a great champion no doubt, but next Arnold i still believe arnold deserves the title. Sergio's muscle maturity was not nearly as developed as arnold's. Plus in my opinion Sergio's arms were a bit large for his body with no real outstanding shape to them, just blocks of muscle pretty much. Like i said Sergio was a great champion, but theres always someone that comes along eventually thats better and for Sergio that person was Arnold.

  • @Roadkill300E Arnold isn't even close-Sergio is in another league.

  • 1:00 AAAAARRRRMMMSS !!@

  • 1:22 awesome shot

  • The Victory Pose is possibly the greatest single pose of all time.

  • best of all time

  • I worked out at Sergio's gym in the 80's when he was still competing, and saw him there on a regular basis. He trained with great intensity and was freaking huge! He seemed like a nice guy too.

  • If hw wasnt cuban he would of beat Arnold he was to bodybuiilding wwhat the ultimate warrior was to wrestling simply the GREATEST

  • Comment removed

  • @1HOOVERable

He did beat Arnold in the Mr Olympia and remain the only bodybuilder to have done so in history...what you could have said is that he would have continued to beat Arnold if he was not black and Cuban..and i agree with that

  • SERGIO ONE OF THE GREATEST OF ALL TIMES SO SAY HE WAS THE REAL WINNER OF MR OLIMPIA NOT ARNOLD. I AGREE MOST HEAVY WEIGHT BODY BUILDERS ARE TO BLOCKY!

  • Simply the best of all times, totally natural (no steroids) and the most resistant of all bodybuilders, this guy would work out 8 hours, then go to work another 8 hours and after that he would take his wife to dance to the club until the sunrise.

  • @CiudadnoX0 He took steroids. But his workout was very hard.

  • That was and is the greates physique of ALLTIME. You will never see a man with a 56 inch chest and 29 inch waist today. With all the crap they are using. Sergio had THE PHYSIQUE. Even Arnold said. When you come down to the bottom line. No one had a body quite like THE MYTH.

  • @fender1000100

Totally agree..he was the greatest of all time...naturally built like a Nubian god...

  • @fender1000100

in my opinion sergio had size but he didnt have that many tie ins, muscle seperation that i would liked. In the film pumping iron on the lower wieght class there is some serious competition. The guy franc colombia came 1st after.

  • @pureefficient Franco? Sergio murders him-Sergio would be in the heavyweight class anyway, had he not been banned and so allowed to compete in '75.

It would have been funny to see Arnold looking so ordinary compared to Sergio in that film, the script would need to be rewritten.

  • past bodybuilders have much better physiques than present FACT!

  • A true legend of the sport.

  • hey the past and future are a lot of difference try not to compare the body builders of today and the past try and try also not to put negative comments it so rude guys grow up

  • those forearms are fucked up

  • @alir90 Glutes? These are details, lets look at the important things-small waist and hips, wide shoulders, huge thighs (which Sergio in his prime had) full low calves which most today, especially black bodybuilders do not have.Small joints, huge arms and forearms-the list goes on and on,and you want to talk about conditioning which todays bodybuilders get out of a bottle?I'm talking about genetics-nobody can match Sergio.Cutler would kill for Sergio's genes.Imagine todays 'stars' minus gh

  • @Peter9761 jepp agreed, most of it is because of the genes. For that point I admire my dad, he nevery really worked out but has even more massive calves then most of the pro- bodybuilders, his forearms a huge especially his joints and bones are massive. I have been doing bodybuilding since 6 years now, I am quite massive, but my joints, calves and forearms are weak compared to my dad's. he always makes fun of it. the gene thing will never be fair

  • @Peter9761 ...alright..let me clarify again.. The purpose of my comment was in no way to critisize old legands like sergio... but only to Give my opinion on the fact that Phil will beat sergio! That is all..

I totally agree .. if u wanna talk about the last decade..there are very symettrical bodybuilders as well.. for example.. kevin levrone (my personal fav) .. Dexter Jackson..how about lee priest.. i mean look at the height and the measurements... lol ..

  • @alir90 Levrone? Blocky with light thighs.Jackson has a long midsection which is very strange, poor calves and second rate thighs.Priest, great arms and not much else.

Thats not symmetry. There are others with great symmetry from the eighties,Leidelmeyer for one-see him in the nationals of 83-not the gh size of todays bodybuilders but aesthetically on another planet to them.Buchanan too, incredible.I'd take those two over any modern bodybuilder.

  • @Peter9761 Hmmm . i understand what you are trying to say ,but the fact doesnt change.. haha.. wether its jay or phil . both would beat sergio..lol listen. everything matters .pretty or ugly..nevertheless a bodybuilder today can beat an old bodybuilder anyday. im not denying the fact its because of steriod advancement or whatever

    /watch?v=8PABWoHioVw

Take this for example.. video from last year i believe..cn u honestly tel me sergio wil beat phil even in a single pose

  • @alir90 Sergio beats him of course-genetic shape. That is the bottom line. They can take all the drugs in the world(and they do) but shape is something they either have or have not.

See this vid or 'Sergio versus Arnold 'to see Sergio's lat spreads, double biceps front and rear, overhead arms pose-which Heath can't even attempt, and most muscular.Sergio kills him in every pose.

Then bear in mind Sergio never touched gh or diuretics.

  • @alir90 Hey buddy, I have to agree and disagree with you on a couple things. Shawn, Flex and Kevin personally are my favorite bodybuilders, SADLY the IFBB started awarding size over everything else early 90s, Jay Cutler, Pierre Fux, Nasser, Ronnie, are all products of the bloated GH era. Nasser even said the top 10 in the O today wouldnt make a top 10 10 years ago. Give Arnold or Sergio, Jay or Phil drugs, they'd get crushed. I like Phils' physique but the new guys dont measure to the golden era

  • @Martinl792002 I liked Wheeler, but it was hard to know where he ended and the synthol began.

I would hate to see a Sergio ruin his physique with the huge cocktail of drugs todays freaks take-gone would be his tiny waist.

I like Phil too-but without gh what would he be?

  • @Peter9761 agree! The current IFBB is so whack there best current BB has to take the Cutler juice to get his body to the weiders "olympia" standards. I think i wathed the show just to see the winner. I hear a kid try to say Cutler or any of todays blocky guys beat out sergio or serge I wanna scream! haha.

  • @Martinl792002 Yeah-todays kids are so used to seeing a huge bloated waist and blocky shapeless physique that they actually think it is normal and good!

  • @Peter9761 agree for me in my 30s i came about bodybuilding via pumping iron, i think they just look at cutler ronnie and ruhl and think its all about size. i cant thonk of the last time there was a mr olympia where everybody bodybuilder didnt have the same body type minus dexter. Dorian and the IFBB judges have dragged the current bodybuilding scene to no mans land. ill take these days in a second. i wonder if sergio still runs a gym

  • @Martinl792002 I'm not sure if Sergio still runs a gym.I know he is not healthy these days, having several false joints due to arthritis and was recently mugged by a bunch of scumbags and his jewellery stolen from him. I believe he is having problems walking these days due to his hips and knees-very sad for someone once so strong and fit.

  • @alir90 Afraid not-look at his 29" waist-which current Olympia bodybuilder can match that??

If you think Sergio lacked mass then clearly you haven't seen footage of him in his prime.

What we see now is overdevelopment of back and thighs due to gh,but genetic shape cannot be changed and the modern bodybuilders don't have that.We won't mention their huge guts.

The judges? Anyone rewarding 40" waists shouldn't be allowed to judge.

  • 1:21 that pose sums sergio up, such a great pose

  • @Peter9761 True true. Old school > New school.

  • the only man to ever beat arnold in a competition....

    legend

  • @USERNAMEKLEMPTOR Arnold was also beaten by Chet Yorton, and Frank Zane.

  • @neilp77 whoops didnt know that :0

  • Hard to say who is the best ever, but certainly top 5.

  • These really were the days when bbuilding was a beautiful sport, one about sculpture, proportion not just mass and size.....the fact these guys had such tiny mid sections gave their upper bodies an incredible sense of size....I hate it today.

  • man this guy was better than arnold. the white judges didnt think so i guess. messed up

  • @BiodegradeableMan Hmmm no,its a vid about Sergio. Most Arnold fans leave well alone.

Those that don't normally have trouble typing anything coherent.

  • @Peter9761 I see BioPolarBoy is still busy trolling Sergio (and Mentzer) videos. Lol! Typical.

  • @neilp77 He must have a LOT of time on his hands.I doubt if anyone ever reads his crazy posts,I know I don't.One word replies to him and yet he still posts paragraphs of nonsense...definitely a lunatic.

  • he has to have one of the greatest V's ever. Awesome builder!!

  • Best physique ever existed in human mankind!

  • The best V shape in Bodybuilding. Something we hardly ever see today with the walking science projects at the Mr Olympia nowadays.

  • Awesome body. Today bodybuilders are disgusting loosers comparing to this guy. Oh my god. Better then Arnold certainly

  • The one thing that all of those good bodybuilders had back then was a small waist. These guys today have huge bellies. Sergio's arms, back, calves and chest were probably as big as the guys today. But, that tiny waist he had made him so much better - that is what bodybuilding is supposed to be about.

  • @tothatextent SO TRUE !

  • i saw him in street clothes...short shirt...you never saw anything like it...totally amazing...absolutely unbelievable arms and taper to tight small waist...i dont think we shall see his equal...this was in 1967 or 1968 around his prime...saw him at his booth at arnold last year...crippled by arthritis...very sad...

  • the man had a 27 inch waist and his guns were almost that.... WTF !!!!

  • basically if arnold had taking up a career in olympic curling, we would have Sergio as governor of california. Sergio,Haney, Arnie, Samir, Dorian, Scott all examples of what bodybuilders should be.

  • Nobody ever hit the double-overhead pose like Sergio. What I find interesting is that Frank Zane, a much more slender bodybuilder, also used a variation of that pose to great effect; maybe it's not so surprising because Frank was a master poser.

  • take a moment and look at 1:17 just look at the freaking shoulder width compared to the width of the waist. now glance at the thigh-sized arms protruding almost out of the picture. just look how far away his elbows are due to the shoulder width. not to mention his tighs wich obviously are bigger than his waist. these proportions gentlemen are totally unheard of. he looks like a beefed up steve reeves! best genetic potential ever. no doubt.

  • @zignationer you forgot to mention the forearms. Who develops forearms like that?

  • He was so fucking huge even by todays standards he is huge.I remember reading interview with Arnold on some contest he was participating, where Arny says he considhered himself huge and big body bilder and he was bigest backstage in dresing room and he was so proud and little bit full of himself and then Sergio entered dresing room and he sudenly felted as smallest guy in world compared to him.

  • This is in my opinion the greatest bodybuilder ever. I would kill someone to look like this, which I'm trying, so better watch out;).

  • This dude back in 1963 work 10-12 hrs a day at a local steel mill, and still working out for 2.5-3 hrs a day. Hard work paid of... NO PAIN NO GAIN!!!

  • You're wrong. Sergio Oliva won in 1967, 68 and in 1969 marking Schwarzenegger's first and only loss in a Mr. Olympia competition. Not lou ferrigno, not Frank, not Larry, it was Sergio Oliva; that's story....

  • Sergio Oliva "the myth" Mr. Olimpia 67, 68 and 69. The only man to beat Arnold. DONE.

  • @GUSANOSCLUB -Frank Zane and Larry Scott have both beaten Arnold. Just think, at 5ft 9in and 190lbs, Zane was virtually unbeatable at one time. Just shows you don't have to look like a freak to win contests. Different story these day though....

  • What really piss me off is that Sergio never even got half the Publicity that Arnold did!! People thought Arnold was a freak in those days But no one even new who Sergio was!!! It is only NOW that people are takeing a look for the first time at this Incredible Phenomenon that Sergio was!! Thank to the World Wide Web!!!

  • @Hititnow1 Agreed. I honestly never thought Arnold was all that. People talk about him like he was so far ahead of his time, but looking at guys like Sergio makes me think that was all a lot of hype. I'm not a bodybuilding judge though, so maybe there are things I'm not seeing. Sergio was still a beast, god damn!

  • Sergio is without a doubted One of the Greatest Bodybuilder that ever Lived!! And The Greatest= Body / Potencial / Ginetics Of All Time! Said so by Arnold Shwarzenegger himself!!

  • 1:20. Sergio= God. Looks like a bloody sculpture!

  • Being 10 years old in 1976, and after seeing Pumping Iron, I remember thinking to myself 'why wasn't this guy anywhere to be seen?'. As I grew up the clippings of others came down but the one and only image I had of this guy has stayed in my head a lifetime. He is the 'golden chalice'. Well done Mr.Oliva!

  • @MrHonestmate I agree 100%!

  • The biggest 'myth' of all is that Sergio was never cut. This is Weider propaganda.

Later on,after being banned by the IFBB,its true he wasn't often in top shape,he didn't need to be,but for his Olympia's he was in shape.See footage of the '69 Olympia to see him in particularly superb condition.

  • @Peter9761 I agree. Being 10 years old in 1976, and after seeing Pumping Iron, I remember thinking to myself 'why wasn't this guy anywhere to be seen?'. As I grew up the clippings of others came down but the one and only image I had of this guy has stayed in my head a lifetime. He is the 'golden chalice'. Well done Mr.Oliva!

  • I hope nobody owed this guy money.

  • Sergio's extra wide double bicep kicks ass. What a powerful pose, he is awesome.

  • his proportion is incredible damn!!

  • It's what everyone strives for. Wide shoulders and lats with a tiny little waist. Huge arms and thighs as well. This is what they should have based the criteria on. He is one of the all time greats. Only thing he may have done different is lose more body fat to look more ripped but back then it wasn't scientific like it is now. Also back then emphasis wasn't so much on the legs as it is now although he still did have impressive legs.

  • Sergio had quite the unique build, one of a kind.

  • Sergio Oliva's arms was so great that the rest of the body did not follow.

I bet Arnold suffered in the poses of the forearm =]

  • 3 2 1 BLAST OFF @ 00:08

  • his physic is not weird his physic is PERFECT.

  • He looks amazing. Really amazing. Isnt he bigger than arnold? And he still has a small waist and big legs. Impressive.

  • This guy was like 25 yrs ahead of his time

  • first real 'freak' in bodybuilding history. that victory pose is unreal

  • Hes arms are way to big for the rest of hes body - when i first look at him...i notice the arms first. 1:01 is not right. that looks insane... impressive the size etc...but it looks damn silly when its not in symentry with the rest of hes body ... some picture you see only arms and hes chest and legs arent even there 1:12

  • @Rhulken If you can't see his legs and chest you best get your eyes tested.

His thighs were HUGE,as was his chest.

  • In one Word: Symetry.

    This Pictures are great.

  • @Rhulken his legs were actually really big. 1:17 is a really good pic

  • @Rhulken Thats his offseason form. He had great chest and legs. He maybe had the greatest genetic potenzial ever. If he dieted better and get a better posing routine, nobody would have ever beat him.

  • @Rhulken his arms are fine, its his chest and waist that lack dimension

  • @TomsGuns Huh??

  • @Rhulken he would not win today..but today its all about the biggest u can get,,and finding the best drugs..this was a time when they took way less drugs and had alot more honor and heart

  • @5tonyvvvv I disagree.Today he would look even better. He would make the gh freaks look silly.

  • @Peter9761 he would be on GH himself..and be just another drugged up freak..

  • @5tonyvvvv Sadly he might be,but he himself says he wouldn't take it.

He didn't need it,look at the incredible physique he built without it.

  • I think Sergio would win nowadays mr. O if he was like this, he was ahead of his time, that massive upper body and tiny waist is impressive, nowadays bodybuilders would look ridiculous next to him.....

  • I agree with many of the below comments about the shot at 1:20. Personally, I think it's the most impressive picture taken of a bodybuilder, ever.

    EVER.

  • His forearms are so big he could crush a pool ball

  • There is a reason they call him "The Man" in bodybuilding. I had several workouts in the same gym as him and his presence was not elitist, but very accommodating, and helpful. Quite a treat! Later on I got pulled over by him and another Chicago cop I knew just for laughs. I was the only one not laughing. (Crapping my pants more like it! ) I sure hop Sergio is doing well now a days. JT

  • He looks fucking wierd..... his arms are way too big like... his forearms and it's like they're too thick and fat.... look at 1:01 that's not good.

  • @robslifting4life Lol

You are looking at full development, without gh.His forearms are immense, not fat...jesus

  • @Peter9761 like he's great and all it just doens't look right to me haha... his arms are way to big it's like hulk

  • @Peter9761 Fat forearms? Wow! That's a good one! Lol! Where do these people come from?

  • His guns are Huge. Almost freakish

  • 1:22 EPIC

  • sergiu has some freaking huge arms!

  • The guy was ahead of his time in mass.

  • Sergio is my favorite bodyduilder.

  • he really was unreal. massive with nearly perfect proportions

  • i wonder if this guy was roided up?

  • Cool forearms

  • He is big and not scary. he has the quality balance in his own body that suits him.

  • Sergio is truly the Myth. Tiny waist, huge chest, wide quads. And his arms & forearms...my god.

  • peter I have a question.

would you say sergio had a short torso or long torso. Arnold and ronnie had very short torsos but long legs, flex, dennis have very long torso. Also which one do you pefer

  • I would say Sergio had something inbetween, neither long nor short in torso.

If the legs are in proportion with the upper body,i really don't have a preference...sometimes short legs give the impression of a long torso,as in Mattarazo's case.

  • yea but sergio has a four pack like arnold, but arnolds legs are extremely long. do you think he has perfect porportion or would you say he is alittle on the short side

  • Arnolds legs are not extremely long.

    Yes Sergio had perfect proportions.

  • This is what the statues of Zeus and the other gods in Greece look like.

  • His arms damnnn his armsssss

  • at 1:01 his arm luk gigantic.

  • Those pics from 1971 and 1972 are outstanding.

    1:01 unbelievable!

  • Yes, Sergio Oliva was the greatest of them all!

  • :21 sec, wow!!!

  • his victory pose still gives me chills

  • Very impressive. That picture at 1:21 tells the whole story.

They should change the 'Sandow' to the 'Sergio', with the winner's trophy forged in that image! lol

  • @Redmaniac5 ...The pose of a God, at 1:20. Stunning! A live, human trophy.

  • Just phenominal genetics in his arms

  • it seems he lacks a bit of biceps cause he has just such a monstrous triceps and his forearms are the bomb

  • you can see a harmony in all his body, that in actual bodybuilders is kinda diferent, i think that it doesnt exist that harmony in the body of the actual bodybuilers.

  • And i'm talking of Olympia wins...the Mr World win was even more debatable,Sergio was robbed there too.

  • "I think if Arnold had been competitive enough he would have entered but I don't think Joe Weider could even afford to take that chance. That is why all of a sudden they changed the rules and no one in the IFBB could go to the NABBA Universe anymore. Then we had the 1972 Mr. Olympia where Arnold beat Sergio. Interesting." Boyer Coe

  • Hell No!!!

  • No,Arnold beat Sergio twice, and lost to him once.

Arnold winning in 70 is debatable,to say the least, but giving him the title over Sergio in 72 was nothing but a joke...Sergio won that one easily.

  • No,i would say your opinion is very contorted because you are a die hard Arnold fan.

You need to be objective...Sergio had a far better structure, much better development, and supreme, some would say unreal proportions...yet all you talk about is biceps peak lol.

  • Oh i do think what i want...Sergio is clearly better.

    Now move along.

  • I've always seen it that way as well. Sergio should've beat Arnold everytime and hell even Lou Ferrigno should've placed in front of Arnold.

  • Thats easy,Sergio had much smaller hips and wider shoulders, that equals better structure.(unless you think wide hips and round shoulders is better structure??)

Arnold obviously had less mass too,as both men weighed approximately the same, yet Sergio was 3-4" shorter (with lighter bone structure)

As i said...objectivity,your post clearly is far from objective.

Many people prefer Arnold because Arnold is all they know.

Biceps peak? Err yes, lets forget about triceps and forearms lol

  • Hitler,like your namesake,you are an idiot...bye bye

  • @hitler42088 ur just jealous bcuz that nigger that ur tlaking about has a bigger dick than arnold,u,or ur entire race..

  • @hitler42088 jajajajajajajjajajaj...there are none so blind as those who will not see,,saying that you seems like a fool....:P

  • @hitler42088 yeah, but arnold had half of his lats, u cant really compare the greats

  • Rich Gaspari gave it his all I give him that. He had heart and pushed his inferior physique as far as he could. He was never Olympia material but had incredible drive.

  • "Sergio Oliva's physique in 1972 was the best I have ever seen of anybody even to date. If I could pick anybody's physique that I would like to look like it would be Sergio Oliva's physique at the 1972 Olympia." Boyer Coe.

  • so this is where Oliva from the "Baki" manga comes from...

  • waw he is awesome and to think he possessed that figure back in that time when there was such less bb supplements available, and fancy nowa days equp't. I agree he looked better than Arnold did by chance he competed against arnold and lost? Sergio puts all thes bloated fucks nowadays to shame.

  • his arms are quite large.

  • holy crap! I JUST MET THIS GUY AT MY GYM TODAY! I met a thin, little old 72 yr. old that had good lifting form & I commended him on his form and we chatted for a minute and that was it. a while later, 1 of the personal trainers asked if I knew who that was & I said no & then he explained to me who he was.

I told the man on the way out that I found out who he was. He was very humble & said that was all in his past. He had a thick Cuban accent, or something. And here he is! How cool is that!?

  • You met the greatest of them all :)

  • and the humblest. honestly, he seems a lot older than 72, but thats what he told me. it was t world gym in chicago on Montrose ave...

  • Yeah he has pretty bad arthritis these days

  • 0:05 WOW look at that...that is art right there people!!

  • Those triceps and V-shape are crazy.

  • he never dieted for any comp he ate what he wanted fact

  • His arms are HUGE !!

  • Good pictures of sergio, 5 stars!
