you can also set the processor speed to a maximum of 40% , i did that in my compaq laptop & my battery life increase about 40 minutes, but you decrease you're performance by a little, but is very useful if you are traveling just reading something or listening to music

Hibernate uses absolutely zero power - you could take the battery out and put it back in and it would still resume as normal.
