Heavens to Darlene Edwards! This woman's voice has to be heard to be believed! THANKS for posting...though my eardrums may never be the same. If Hyacinth Bucket tried to sing opera, this is probably what she'd sound like! Wasn't one of the toilets at the New York Metropolitan Opera named for her ???
:O! My cousin just found out about a brilliant website handing off entirely free iTunes giftcards!!! See yourself! w w w GetFreeiTunesCards [DOT] c o m
Florence had balls and for that I respect her. She loved singing so much that she didn't let it stop her even when people made fun of her. As long as it doesn't hurt others do what you love and be passionate enough to ignore the critics. 65 years later she can still hold an audience with her tone deaf performance. Do you think they will say the same for Brittney Spears in the year 2075?
If You enter a badly designed building where water drops from the badly constructed ceiling and You get mad at the inconvinience just think what Florence did in music terms.
If Florence would sing for herself it is totally acceptable. But promoting bad things is obviously cool nowadays - one could even say that people actually devote more to that than promoting good music, because You can be way more sure about a bad performance.
@tonieprawda We listen to her because she is so bad it's funny, but also because of her delusions. As to nowadays, in her time she sold out Carnegie Hall and counted many famous people among her "admirers" including Caruso, Cole Porter and Gian Carlo Menotti. People loved to laugh at her then, and people love doing it now. In terms of harm to music I'd consider mediocrity of popera and tv talent shows far more harmful than this obviously bad singing.
I never realised how good I was at singing until I heard this... it sounds like she shrieking in pain, and I hate to think about how that poor pianist suffered... he must have been holding his breath to stop himself falling of his chair laughing!
I never realised how good I was at singing until I heard this... it sounds like she shrieking in pain, and I hate to think about how that poor pianist suffered... he must have been holding his breath to stop himself falling of his chair laughing!
I heard about Florence on NPR's quiz show "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" and I thought it was by far the funniest thing I'd ever heard. Glad to find it here. SO FUNNY!
En cierto modo trágico. Hay gente que no sabe dónde están sus límites y hacen el ridículo. Pero si fue feliz y ganó tanto dinero, pues que le quiten lo bailado.
Her voice was not ugly, the only problem is that she sang out of tune, but she didn't have an ugly voice.
And it's controversial the information that says that she has died happy, I've heard that the cause of her death was depression because she realized she couldn't sing.
Unique.
shame on you!! this is the proof that anyone can do anything they like no matter what the others think. we should learn from this examples of courage and perseverance. viva foster jenkins... even so, this is the greatest homage, people like you is still interested in her and her singing even if you don't like it.
Let it never be said that LACK OF TALENT cannot be trumped by sheer FORCE OF WILL and PASSION! RIP Florence! You live on for all the wrong reasons, but you still live on!
@martinusvantee And therein lies the whole point to all this. You gotta love her though...she plugged on, massacring the classics right and left! The composers whirling in their graves could produce enough energy to light the world for YEARS!
She didn't sound good, but make her dream come true, even with thousands and maybe million of people worldwide laughing at her. Brave her for that. :)
that's some of the most sensitive bullshit i've ever heard. the only way she was able to do it was because her father died and left her with a huge inheritance. maybe she would have gotten better if someone told her she sucked?
That's just it. Critics assailed her from all sides, and yet she persevered with a bullet-proof sense of her own talent. You could have sliced up her denial into enough planks to re-roof a barn.
Dios!!!me sangran los oidos!Lo peor de todo es que esta tía no es la única que graba discos y hace conciertos pagando a pesar de su nula calidad artística.
I never heard such a thing!!! WTF!??! It would be tragic if it weren't COMIC! What language is she siging?!?!!? Really, it's memorable!!! How could someone be SO self-confident!??! Really, it's ingenious! hahahahahha God, I won't stop laughing that soon....
Unabashed by her audiences' laughter, "the first lady of the sliding scale" continued to massacre operatic classics, once even selling out Carnegie Hall.
From 3:01 to 3:07: Imagine for a moment that jacket with "LIVING STEREO" at its top-left corner. Noooo, better don't pay attention to this, so you don't have nightmares from now on. LLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!
I love Florence Foster Jenkins! What moxy, what self-confidence, what a bizarre and wonderful approach to music...if ya like it, sing it, even if you have no vocal skills whatsoever.:)
having read a serious crits report many years ago re FFJ, it will surprise listeners -(nay - astound listeners!)to learn that she filled The Carnegie Hall to the rafters at her concerts !!!
I suppose it is not every day you get the chance to listen to a voice from another planet !
Just imagine - if youi employed her as a guard dog how secure you would be !! hahaha.
She was actually very famous for her lack of...tone, rhythm, pitch, sound, and her ability to you know, not hold a note. Even if she sucks, its good to know she did what she loved and died happy =P
Cole Porter heard her once in person, started beating his hand on a table and said, "I can't stand it! I can't stand it!" Her accompanist, Cosme McMoon does very well, but didn't want his real name used. Mme. Jenkins was the first real La Supenda, and thought she was far superior to Tetrazzini. In her own way, I suppose.
Yes The accompagnator is really good beacuse he manges to stay in time with her and even alterates slightly the partition so he stays in tune with her
One must feel sorry for this woman.
